UK bookmakers rollout live in-race betting on Australian horse racing

The recent rollout of live in-race betting on Australian horse racing in overseas markets is unlikely to affect local punters, with Australian betting operators continuing to rely on their own trading teams for in-play odds.

This week, UK bookmakers Ladbrokes and Coral introduced automated in-race betting odds on Victorian racing, following a data agreement between Racing Victoria and technology provider Total Performance Data (TPD).

First announced last year, the deal enables real-time odds generation for every runner using what TPD describes as its “AI-driven proprietary pricing technology”.

This development contrasts with the current Australian model, where in-race markets typically focus on just the leading few contenders, often showing odds for the top three or four runners along with a “rest of field” option.

Despite the innovation, there are no immediate plans to expand similar capabilities to Australian betting platforms, with local bookmakers preferring the expertise of in-house trading teams to manage live odds.
