$500,000 on Atlantic Jewel

Punters are banking on the run of good things continuing on Derby Day with some enormous early bets struck on Atlantic Jewel in the Wakeful with Sportingbet Australia.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said fans of the shorties were having a big Spring with the likes of Black Caviar, Sepoy, Atlantic Jewel and Manawanui all saluting the judge at short odds with monotonous regularity.

โ€œWe have already taken one bet of $500,000 on Atlantic Jewel at $1.35 and she is now into $1.30 and the money is still coming,โ€ Sullivan said.

โ€œWe havenโ€™t got one of these short priced favourites beaten all Spring but I think she is worth laying at this price.

โ€œThis is her first time to 2000m, this race is a bit of an afterthought and it is her first go at Flemington.โ€

Sullivan said there had been good money for a number of the shorties on the card.

โ€œGalah, Sepoy and Atlantic Jewel have all been well backed and there have been plenty of big bets on that treble including one of $12,000 at $2.90,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe exception has been Manawanui in the Derby who has blown from $2.35 to $2.70 and there still hasnโ€™t been enormous interest in him.โ€
