NZ head odds for Origin Jockey Series

Pride will be on the line when 12 jockeys from across Australia and New Zealand compete in the fourth TAB Origin Jockey Series, with New Zealander Damian Browne helping to cement the Kiwi team as favourites.

The series, contested over five heats, is held over two days (Friday 7th, Saturday 8th December) and is a highlight of the TAB Queensland Summer Racing Carnival in Brisbane.

Jockey Damian Browne is riding as part of team New Zealand but as a regular on the Queensland racing circuit TAB bookies see the Doomben track as a ‘home court advantage’ for Browne who, with teammate Jason Collett are series favourites at $3.30.

Close on the heels of the Kiwi team though is the New South Wales duo of Corey Brown and Brad Stewart. Brown’s experience as an internationally acclaimed rider includes two Melbourne Cup wins and it’s this skill and knowledge that has TAB listing the NSW team as second favourites at $3.70.

“This series has grown in stature each year, and the rivalry between each of the ‘teams’ is real, the jocks have been talking it up all week,” TAB’s Gerard Daffy said.

“Having high profile names like Corey Brown has also seen a surge in betting interest on the series this year.”

This year, rivalries will be pushed even harder with series sponsor Tabcorp agreeing to donate $500 for every point Queensland scores to the National Jockeys Trust.

The National Jockeys Trust, founded in 2004, is a charitable trust established to assists jockeys and their families through financial or other difficulties jockeys may face in their career.
