The Joseph O’Brien trained son of High Chapparel who just sired the Victoria Derby winner ‘Rekindling’ opened in the Melbourne Cup Final Field at $16 with Sportsbet before punters went bang, smashing the lightly raced galloper into $11 with a flood of money continuing to come for him.
Another big push for punters is that owner Lloyd Williams has stated he will be on course to watch the race in which he has six runners but rarely heads to the racecourse unless he feels he is a very good chance of winning. Williams has ownership interests in Almandin, Johannes Vermeer, Bondi Beach, US Army Ranger, Gallante and Rekindling.

Since markets opened on the Final Field Saturday night there have been two runners punters have been keen to back with both at value with Amelie’s Star the other galloper who has been well supported shortening from $23 to $16.
Almandin holds favouritism at $8.50 but has been easy ($7-$8.50) slightly with Sportsbet.com.au ahead of Marmelo who got out to $10 but has been backed into his opening price of $9.
