Country Cup racing heads to Great Western this Saturday for the Great Western Cup (1950m).

2025 Great Western Cup Runner Preview:
1.Mission Phoenix: Hasn’t raced since June. Jumpouts suggest he will need the run but stable can get them ready so watch the markaet.
2.Chimed: Chimed looks the winner for Symon Wilde. He is three weeks between runs since racing over 2400m at Geelong. He got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and tired late. Back in trip looks ideal and off prior efforts, he takes beating here I say.
3.The Nephew: He was several weeks between runs when contesting the Burrumbeet Cup last time. He got back in the run and closed with purpose I thought behind Friday At Five. The draw is awful but if within range, he can win.
4.Corbulo: He has had a couple of runs for Gemma Reilly and should be at peak fitness. Total forgive at Sale last time when punching forward to lead and just felt the pinch late. If he leads and gets control, he’ll run a beauty.
5.Kokonotsu: Attempted to lead throughout in the Burrumbeet Cup and gave a strong kick but just felt the pinch late in the piece. If he gets the right run in transit, he’s dangerous.
6.Brawl: Comes through the same race that Chimed contested, finishing tailed off last. Prior efforts were good but that last run worries me.
7.Salsbury Hill: Landed bets at odds when giving them a start and a beating to win over the mile at Camperdown last time. Likely gets back but be strong at the end.
8.Pride Of Proisir: Plain behind Salsbury Hill last Saturday so not for me here.
9.Laybuy (First Emergency): Wide no cover fresh at Penola but was quite weak late. Harder here. Pass.
