Geelong Cup winner Dunaden and third placed runner, Bauer, have been massive shorteners for the Melbourne Cup following impressive displays today.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Dunaden had shortened from $21 to be the new second favourite at $8.00 while Bauer’s odds had been slashed from $71 to $15.
“We have seen the Geelong Cup form being a great pointer to the Cup in recent years and both Dunaden and Bauer were ultra impressive,” Sullivan said.
“Both horses had plenty of supporters before today’s runs and I am sure their fan clubs will only grow after those performances.
“Dunaden maintained a long run and looks like two miles will suit him down to the ground while Bauer looks to be back to the form that saw him just get pipped by Viewed in the 2008 Melbourne Cup.”
Last year’s Geelong and Melbourne Cup winner, Americain, is still Sportingbet’s Melbourne Cup favourite at $7.00 ahead of Dunaden, Lucas Cranach at $10 and Green Moon at $12.
“It certainly looks like it will be one of the imports for the Cup again this year as they dominate the betting market,” Sullivan said.
