A strong field has been set down for the Bega Cup (1600m) this Sunday with good depth set to take its place.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Bega Cup.
2025 Bega Cup Runner Preview:
1. Flying Mikki: I want to pot him from a price perspective. He’s the best horse in the race, and the win last time at Murray Bridge was massive. But, he beat nothing, and here he has drawn horrendously. He’ll be last and at the Sapphire Coast, it’s very difficult to come from the back and win.
2. Belleistic Kids: Freshened up since running fourth in the Nowra Cup. Has run well at the track and gets a big upgrade with Brodie Loy taking over. But, like Flying Mikki, can’t see him winning from the back.
3. Just Go Bang: Ridden with intent in the Gilgandra Cup and duly saluted to win. More depth here though, can’t entertain him.
4. One Aye: Ripping mare for Joseph/Jones, but I suspect she’s using this as a barrier trial en route to the Canberra Cup or something similar.
5. La Sante: Loved the way he closed off in the Moruya Cup last time after getting back to near last in the run. That said, I don’t think he’s up to these.
6. Louie’s Legacy: Plain the Nowra Cup and the tick over trial was just fair. If he wins, I am losing on the race.
7. Patrika Mist: I think this girl is worth a throw at the stumps. Ran in the Midway last time at Wyong behind the in form Magnatear. Back to this level is a big tick, maps to settle in a beaut spot and is a proven track/distance performer. Big price.
8. Toes In The Water: Comes here as a last start city winner, but to be fair, it was a very weak metro race. But, she has a good racing style, hard fit and in form, she rates highly for me.
9. Jacob’s Time: Comes back to the mile after running over 1800m on the Kenso last time when off speed and seemingly had his chance. Like him back in trip but the gate is tough.
10. Associate: Has been kept on ice since a midfield finish in a Highway at Randwick. Prior efforts suggested a win was near and he does get serious weight relief vs last time. Right in the mix.
11. Direct Fire: Big intent IMO with Theresa Bateup having a fab record at this track. But even if this horse does get front end control, I still think 1600m is a big, big query, and I have to oppose him.
12. Moritz Girl: Hard to beat this mare, winning the Highway mentioned above that Associate contested. Then went to the Kenso and ran a narrow second. Maps to get a sweet run in transit, down in the weights, strong late…hard to beat.
13. Victory At Omaha: Tailed off in a weak race at Kembla last time. Pass.
14. Astunner: Loomed to win the Cowra Cup last time but just battled the last little bit. Class rise is a worry. Not for me.
15. Vermicella: I think she’s a progressive mare for Joe Cleary but gee this is a steep class/depth rise for her and just not sure she’s ready.
16. Master Riley: Making up the numbers.
17. Scarli Japali (First Emergency): Game in defeat last time after covering ground. Could sneak a first four spot.
2025 Bega Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$50 Win on Moritz Gorl, $10 Win/$40 Place Patrika Mist.

2025 Bega Cup Speed Map
Theresa Bateup loves the Sapphire Coast and her stable has the three likely main speed runners. Direct Fire is a query at 1600m and I think the only way he wins is if he gets complete front end control. Victory At Omaha and Master Riley settle handy, while Toes In The Water comes across.
