Cedarberg wins 2011 The BMW

Cedarberg has benefited from a clever ride by big-race jockey Damien Oliver to win the Group One BMW at Rosehill.

Travelling worse than midfield for most of the trip on Cedarberg, Oliver elected to stay on the inside while others scouted wide rounding the home turn.

The Pat Carey-trained Cedarberg extended brilliantly when asked after taking the short cut.

Four-year-old Cedarberg defeated the gallant Mourayan by 1-1/4 lengths with Linton a neck away third in the 2400 metre race.

β€œOnce they opened up he sprinted through really quickly,” Oliver said.

β€œWhen you draw two you don’t have a real lot of options, he wasn’t really comfortable on the inside but once they opened up he really took the bit and chased up well.”

Oliver chalked up his second win in the BMW after scoring aboard Blutigeroo in 2007.
