Adam Page gives us his brief look at Saturday’s 2011 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill racecourse on Golden Slipper day, view his early look at the race.
Brazilian Pulse:
Brazilian Pulse did the job well enough to win the Keith Nolan Classic last Saturday. You’d think she would be even better here. She should get the gun for Williams from the perfect alley. Unbeaten at 2000m+ and should continue that here. She is the clear top pick but her price may be short so the best option is exotics.
Triple Six:
Triple Six certainly fills that category. Although she is a maiden still, it was hard not to be impressed by her effort behind Brazilian Pulse. She bombed the start and was always well back in the run but a rail hugging ride by Avdulla enabled her to get home very nicely. She’ll get the sucker run from the inside barrier and if she gets away cleanly, she can definitely fill the placings.
Sworn To Secrecy:
Former kiwi Sworn To Secrecy has had three starts for John O’Shea in Australia and all three have been super. Missed the kick and had a slow tempo to contend with first up, then was grabbed late by Kudakalari in the Canberra Guineas, then got back and ran on well behind Blackie and Fast Clip in the Pharlap Stakes. No doubt the rise to 2000m is right up her alley and the stable is flying at present. She looks like she wants 2400m but I expect her to be very competitive here.
Do Ra Mi:
Do Ra Mi is the only horse to have beaten Brazilian Pulse in five months when she showed a wonderful turn of foot to win the Kewney Stakes. Never raced beyond 1400m but she is bred to run 2000m given her sire Savabeel won the 2004 Cox Plate. Ride her cold and she’ll do a repeat of her Kewney effort.
Overview:
Class should get Brazilian Pulse home. She is the lone Group One winner in the race, steps up to an ideal distance, firmer track, good barrier…It’s hard to see her getting beat but again she’ll be short. Triple Six is filly to follow for the Oaks. Look for her to be running on strongly at the end as will Sworn To Secrecy and Do Ra Mi can rattle home but there doesn’t appear to be much speed here which could be against her if connections want to see her back up her Kewney Stakes performance.
