Adam Page gives us his brief early look at Saturday’s Carbine Club Stakes at Randwick racecourse. View his tips and selections.
Very keen on The Ruffian. Liked his effort first up at Moonee Valley before boxing on well at Betfair Park, then showed his class with a dominant win in the Albury Guineas, especially the last 100m. Bowman has plenty of options from barrier six and to be honest, with the exception of one or two horses, it is an ordinary race. He has the class and ability, and I think he can go on with it here.
Since being gelded, Kudakalari has gone right on with it. Has only raced once this prep for a slashing win in the Canberra Guineas. The rise in journey will only be beneficial and definitely has Melbourne Cup written all over him. The 57.5kg he has got is a concern but class will carry him a long way.
Divorces first up performance in the Kewney was outstanding after she knuckled at the start and almost dumped Mark Zahra from the saddle. She then settled back and ran on very strongly over the final 300m. Her best form is at this distance and although she’ll be giving her rivals a start, expect her to be right in the finish.
Potions has plenty of talent and she finally delivered last start with when she broke her maiden status in good style at Warwick Farm. She has contested some very strong races in her career so class won’t be an issue. Drawn well and Cassidy rides. Look for her to be a leading contender.
Selections:
The Ruffian looks the one for me, over Kudakalari, Divorces and Potions.
