Adam Page gives us his brief preview for Saturday’s All Aged Stakes at Randwick racecourse, view his full race preview and selections.

Form Guide

Hay List has come up short as the $2.30 favourite. Next best is Melito at $6, then Rangirandoo at $8 and Shoot Out at $9.50.

On an each-way basis, I’m going with Alverta. I thought she ran an oustanding race in the T J Smith when she was just run off her legs yet she still found the line to finish fourth. Has a good record second up and the rise in distance suits. She is heading off to Queensland so I’d expect trainer Paul Messara to leave plenty in the tank but she has the fresh legs and is drawn to get a lovely run. She’ll run the journey out strongly while Hay List may struggle. Happy to have Alverta each-way.

Rangirandoo was outstanding in winning the George Ryder. He probably had no right to win but he showed his champion qualities to get the job done and nail Love Conquers All on the line. Back to the scene of his best win, last years Doncaster. Drop back in journey won’t harm him and Nash jumps on. Watch out for him.

Forget Shoot Out went around behind Black Caviar because he was just back, run off his legs and couldn’t get into the race. Looked very sharp in trackwork at Randwick this week and expect dramatic improvement from the Queensland superstar as he heads towards the big races in his home state. One thing I will say is that he is short at $9.50 for a horse that is better over a longer distance. But then again, don’t write off good horses.

I will put Hay List, only because is the best horse in the race on natural ability. Ran the race of his life to almost steal the show from Black Caviar, but he couldnt hold off the wonder mare. He is drawn wide but he’ll lead. If he gets his own way in front, he probably wins. But I have a massive doubt about him running 1400m, especially at Randwick. Maybe his sheer brilliance will get him home.

Alverta, who looks great value, to beat Rangirandoo, Shoot Out and Hay List.
