There was some pretty good racing at Hawkesbury, Caulfield and Doomben, but the star of the show was a three year old at Adelaide. Here are the blackbookers from Saturday.
Hawkesbury
Race Five Number 7 Passage Of Time (8th):
I want to be forgiving of this horse. Jock stated afterwards that he felt the horse didn’t like the firm ground, which is interesting because they didn’t run fast time throughout the day. He looked outstanding in the yard so I wouldn’t drop off him.
Race Six Number 1 Ghisoni (2nd):
If she isn’t harshly treated at the weights, Ghisoni goes very close to winning the Dark Jewel should they head that way. They didn’t break records in front so Angland had to get going before the turn but despite that she surged hard late to just miss. Scone looks perfect for her. Just hope she isn’t harshly weighted.
Caulfield
Race One Number 6 Diamond Bow (4th):
I think dropping back to midweek/provincial grade, she’ll be going close to winning. Just had no chance the way the race was run here, then lost her compass on the turn, but her last 150m was excellent. She has more to give I suspect so stick with her.
Doomben
Race Six Number 13 Femme Fireball (4th):
This was one of the runs of the day. Wide no cover throughout, had no right to close off, yet she did and absolutely savaged the line to just miss. Not sure where she goes to from here but with the right placement, there is a nice race for her. Her effort was outstanding.
Race Seven Number 7 Another Dollar (2nd):
Torvill dominant, but had cover all the way. Another Dollar was enormous. Wide no cover in the run and had to roll forward, where she was left outside the speed. Had every right to drop off but didn’t and it took a Group l placed filly to beat her, thought she beat the rest comfortably. Keen to see her up in trip.
Morphettville
Race Five Number 3 Peaceful State (1st):
Sub 46 first 800m from Time Awaits. Clearly set up for those behind, including Peaceful State, so that is a concern, but visually, it was a win of a star. The way he got through the gap and savaged the line, it was the win of a very good horse. He’ll take some beating should he come to Queensland for the Guineas.
Forget:
Civil Disobedience- Perfect trip/ride, but was beaten too easily. Had enough this prep
Mister Sea Wolf- Promised so much but has done little. He can warm the pine
Sunset Watch- Speedy squib. Keep him to 1000m/1100m
