Nine races were run and won at Rosehill on Saturday where it was Expressway Stakes Day, with the track seemingly playing nicely once again. There were some very good efforts as well as a couple of notable flops. Here are a few blackbookers from the meeting heading forward.
Race One: Your Local Greengrocer Handicap (78) 1100m:
Nice win Charlayne, but the blackbooker for the race and perhaps entire program is Problem Solver. Got back off the speed, held up, checked in the straight, yet still produced a final 600m in 32.98, the quickest of the program. Not sure what Gerald Ryan has in store for him, but I think you can follow him and Charlayne with confidence for the Autumn if placed right.
Race Two: Toyota Material Handling Canonbury Stakes 1100m:
600m barrier trial this, so the form is going to be , or should be questioned for mine going forward. Performer was good, but he really needs some form of headgear or something to sharpen him up because you can’t turn it up and win a Golden Slipper. I’ll be interested to see how Exceltic goes next time. Not sure he liked the soft track but was more than sound. I think Performer is the pick out of himself, Exceltic and Stratosphere, but I want to see him do it again.
Race Three: Widden Stakes 1100m:
Not sure she is a Golden Slipper horse, but if placed, Onthetake is a coming winner for sure. Clare Cunningham trains this Krupt filly and she was very good late, clocking the third fastest final 600m of the race behind Fiesta. Races will only get harder so I doubt she’ll measure up, but with a drop back in grade, she can win for sure.
Race Four: Sydney Markets Foundation Handicap (90) 1500m:
He got beat nearly four lengths but I wouldn’t drop off Liapari just yet. Thought his run behind Cellarman, on face value, was just fair, but looking at the sectionals, the run was much better than what the eye saw. Think he is looking for the mile+. Just needs to find a race with tempo. If he does, he’ll run a beauty at odds very soon.
Race Seven: Sydney Markets Limited Expressway Stakes 1200m:
Really liked the returns of both Showtime and Ace High when they both really weren’t expected to do a great deal. Fast final 600m from both runners in a sign that they will be forces in whatever they contest this campaign. Trapeze Artist outstanding and proved the trial was no fluke. Global Glamour…I think she is cooked in terms of winning at the top level. As for Addictive Nature…well the weight of money said he’d win, and yes, held up slightly, but he was out in time to do more. Just whacked away. Jury is out for mine.
Horses To Forget:
Secret Lady – One trick pony. If she can’t lead/dictate, she’s not much good.
Flow – Well and truly turned it up. That Randwick win looking very suspect now.
Samadoubt – No more please.
