With the forecast of showers to hit Brisbane on Friday and Saturday, it is difficult to predict the track condition for this meeting. I’m going to assess Race 6, the Off the Rails handicap over 1350m on a
dead-slow track but be wary of any rain in the coming days. There doesn’t look to be any speed on paper barring Fangles here which is a bit of a concern. Here is my runner by runner preview.
Crossthestart: A solid stayer who probably should have won last start after being held up on two occasions. Good stayers often run well fresh and I’m going to suggest this was the case and to look for him 3rd up or perhaps over the Winter Carnival in the weaker staying events. Doesn’t want any worse than dead.
Our Lukas: Has got more ability than some of these but I couldn’t have him with 60kg first up unless there was any support in the market
Barlinnie: Hasn’t fired a shot this campaign and goes dreadful at the track so not for me.
Raeburn: Another good middle distance horse who may need the run first up. Although he was winning last campaign, I’ve got question marks over the quality of the opposition. Like Crossthestart, I’d be waiting for the longer races but he handles a rain-affected surface if that eventuates.
Charming Rogue: Trapped wide and over raced last start. If he gets cover and things go his way, he has the ability to win this. Just a concern over barrier 12 as I’d imagine they’ll have to go back to get in from there.
Fangles: Could be the only leader but apparently he broke his drought last start due to obtaining cover. He’s a solid chance on a good surface but you couldn’t back him with confidence.
In Rehearsal: Two runs this campaign have been very good. Hasn’t won in town for a while but if he’s going to, this is the race
Steel Lips: Been freshened up after threatening to win but not going on with it. They’ve had problems with his feet so I’m willing to risk here
Kneel and Raise: Runs have been okay but I’m thinking they’ll have to go back from the wide barrier. If there is any pace on, he’s a chance here.
Changing Eyes: Couldn’t win this as he’s suspect at the trip.
Shuffle the Cash: Raced on a heavy surface last two starts so hard to assess his form. This trip is probably a little short of his best so place chance at best.
Tisani Boy: Prefers a good surface and I don’t think he’s capable of winning this.
Patties Mate: Only if it gets really wet.
Intertheblack: Races best here and on his day could win this. Very hard to catch though.
Selections: I’m going to suggest In Rehearsal here in a very open race. Handles all surfaces and should be great each way value. Depending on track conditions, there appear to be a few dangers.
They include Charming Rogue, Fangles and Intertheblack. Crossthestart and Kneel and Raise are the others to include in multiples.
