9/6/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

The Parks track at Morphettville is once again where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post: Out six metres for the remainder.

6 Volum (Bet Now: $2.00) clearly on top for me. Tony McEvoy trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced for 11 months since debuting at Sale where he was well backed and didn’t run a bad race at all behind Mighty Boss, who of course went on to win the Caulfield Guineas. Jump outs leading in have been sharp and he looks to have the class/quality to beat these.

7 Annifrid (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Snitzel for the David Jolly camp who has had two runs back from a spell. Ran a close up second at Strathalbyn first up before a well beaten second at the same track behind a quality type in Shuck. I think back to 1000m will really suit this filly and sitting back off a good speed, she’ll be suited.

8 Duchess Grace (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Lloyd Kennewell trained filly who was hard in the market when resuming at Gawler but she just got too far back in a slowly run race and really had no chance from that point on behind Maracas. Market support that day suggested she was ready to go so I’d be watching her closely.

1 Unfair Dismissal (Bet Now: $3.20) on top for me. Tony McEvoy trains this youngster, who produced a couple of solid runs to kick off the prep before going to a weak Hamilton maiden where Thornton rode the filly a treat and despite not really handling the surface, she proved far too good. Think she puts this field away if she hasn’t been busted from last start.

5 Constant Flow (Bet Now: $8.00) is a son of Akeed Mofeed that resumes for the Stokes team. This bloke debuted at Gawler (Metro) back in January where he was hard in the market but let the punters down with a below par performance behind Tadween. Has had a couple of solid trials to prepare for his return and he looks ready to go.

11 Khanion Bay (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Dalakhani filly on debut for Lloyd Kennewell. This girl is bred to be a good one but interestingly enough she debuts with no public trials under the belt, something that is a bit unusual with the stable so perhaps a little sign that she’s shown something decent at home. Market will tell you.

2 Diamond Tycoon (Bet Now: $2.45) is three for three for Tony McEvoy and should take some beating. First two wins at Balaklava were full of merit but she proved she’s a decent type with a strong win at this track/distance when heavily backed and getting the sweet sit behind the speed before getting clear and finishing off best. Bit more depth here, but she’s a likely prospect.

3 Bad Wolf (Bet Now: $3.60) is a So You Think gelding for the Lloyd Kennewell team who has been strong in two runs back from a spell. Resumed with a dominant maiden win at Murray Bridge before racing at this track/distance a fortnight ago where he got a mile back but worked home with purpose to run second to Diamond Tycoon. Looks hard to beat.

9 Fulton Street (Bet Now: $15.00) is a David Jolly trained gelding who has been quite good in two runs for the stable. Resumed with a narrow second at Balaklava before finding an easy maiden at Mildura and under a lovely ride from Kayla Crowther proved too good. More depth here, but he has the quality to run well.

5 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $4.40) is a quality daughter of Myboycharlie that resumes for Ryan Balfour. She was one of the real finds of the Spring/Summer, winning a stack of races and always performing at a pretty good level. Good fresh horse and I thought she trialled up really well a couple of weeks back behind Boggoms.

7 Devilishly (Bet Now: $5.50) isn’t the most reliable mare for the Hayes/Dabernig team in terms of running a good race…winning is another matter. Four from 32 isn’t the greatest of strike rates but she does try hard and that is all you can ask for. She did that here a fortnight back and wasn’t far away when fourth to Von Costa Glass. I think back to 1300m may suit this girl.

10 Snowbrook (Bet Now: $21.00) is a former Danny Williams galloper who had her first run for the Gary Searle team at Gawler where she settled off the pace and tried hard when a close up third to Master Black. Her form when trained by Williams reads very well for this and with natural improvement from the resumption, she is a threat at odds.

7 Gracena (Bet Now: $3.70) is a mare for the Stokes team who I had suspicions on about running well beyond a mile but her last two runs have been enormous. Close up second to Bertwhistle over 1800m on the course proper before toughing it out strongly to finish best at this track/distance a fortnight ago. Hard fit, in form and remains down in the weights. Looks a safe play.

6 Bertwhistle (Bet Now: $2.40) is a ripping mare for the Darryl Dodson team who is in career best form. Outstanding effort three back at Flemington before backing up a week later and winning over 1800m on the course proper here. Then backed up again in the Centaurea and ran a beauty behind Have Another Glass. Three weeks between runs looks ideal and rates highly.

2 Exalted Lightning (Bet Now: $9.00) is the class runner of the field. Resumed with a solid second in the Port Adelaide Cup before running over 2400m at Sandown where he was off the bit before the turn and never really looked likely but was okay in defeat behind Lycurgus. Back to 1950m is the query, but he is the class runner.

I think back in trip, 3 Arkham Knight (Bet Now: $5.00) should take some beating. The mile was a stretch last time out in the RA Lee on the course proper behind Land Of Plenty. That, and the class was a bit much. Has a really good record on the Parks track, maps ideally and I think back to 1250m will be his go.

Wary of 1 Go The Journey (Bet Now: $4.60) for Richard Jolly. This horse tends to race best when he can dominate from the front and I think he gets a great chance of doing that here. Just copped a bit too much pressure in front last start at this track/distance when fourth to Chamois Road. Like the booking of Huxtable and with a clean jump, he gets a soft lead.

2 So You Too (Bet Now: $9.00) could be the big improver here. Resumed over the 1050m a few weeks ago and never looked likely behind Desert Lashes, getting a mile back in the run and not coming on. Then ran over 1100m and did too much work in the run behind Tildy Lad, who franked the form at the Valley. Think he’s one to watch out for.

2 Stragun (Bet Now: $4.60) deserves a win and I think he gets a great chance. He has placed at his past five since winning first up. He did a stack of work in the run three weeks back over 1200m on the course proper and was only pipped late by Bord De Gain. Back to 1000m is the little query, but the way he is racing, hard to ignore.

9 Invisible Girl (Bet Now: $7.50) has the talent to beat these and even blow them away, but it’s just a matter of where she is at. Thought her run last time out at Sandown was pretty good in what looked a strong race when midfield behind Highland Beat. That form should see her go awfully close here. Just depends if she has the will and want.

8 Barood (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented son of Choisir that resumes for the Sue Murphy team. This bloke had a mixed Summer/Autumn prep, but he did win a couple of races and was competitive in town. He can sprint well fresh and to my eye I thought his trial win at Penola three weeks back was very sharp. Definite market/yard watch.

3 Lord Smedley (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for the Patrick Payne team. He ran over 1200m at Mildura last time out where had a relatively good run near the speed. Got the split and for a brief period looked home but just didn’t have the class to go with Lagerfeld late. He’s a tough nut and will be in this for a long way.

11 Dollar Dollar Bill (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a key chance for Jake Stephens. She resumed over 1250m here a fortnight ago where she got well back in the run but I liked the way she finished off her race behind He’s A Moral, who ran well at Swan Hill on Friday. Not the greatest of second up records but right down in the weights.

The watch horse is 5 Polar Vortex (Bet Now: $16.00). Formerly trained in Victoria but is now with Jordan Frew. Had one run for Frew last prep when down the track at Balaklava. Has had a full prep now with Frew and the stable has a really good strike rate with their first up runners, and there has been early market support.

BEST BET: Race Five Number 7 Gracena

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 3 Arkham Knight

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 3 Lord Smedley
