8/7/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler

Metro racing in SA this Saturday makes a rare trip to Gawler for an eight event meeting. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is out three metres from the 400m-800m; Out two metres for the remainder.

1 Secret Reward (Bet Now: $3.50) should be taking care of this field. Handy looking colt for the Weir camp who debuted at Swan Hill and was solid behind Holy Blade before going to Echuca where he was well backed at odds and despite doing a bit wrong in the straight, he found plenty and was strong to the line. He can go on with it it here.

6 Lady Of Crebilly (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Choisir filly on debut for the Phillip Stokes yard. She has only had the one official trial, which came last week on the Parks track where she ran second to Bris Vegas and I liked that when Finnegan asked for an effort, she responded. Good sign for a first starter in town.

9 Pearl Raider (Bet Now: $17.00)is a Rebel Raider filly who debuted over 1055m at Balaklava a tick over two weeks back and I liked the way she closed off late when fifth to Paris Crystal after flopping out to near last in the run. Ideally suited up to 1200m and with the run under the belt, she should be better off.

3 Chosen Angel (Bet Now: $3.30) was very safe in the market when racing over 2000m at Morphettville three weeks ago and aided by a fast tempo, she let down powerfully out wide and was very strong to the line. Two from two at 2000m and remains down in the weights so 2100m is no issue. Definite leading contender.

4 Sasun (Bet Now: $5.50) is also on the quick back up. He ran last Saturday over 2000m and was brave I thought. Sat back in a slowly run race yet finished off with real purpose to run third to October Date. This looks a considerable drop in depth for this gelding and he loves racing at Gawler.

9 Mighty Maher (Bet Now: $18.00) is a talented mare for the Gary Searle camp who is getting closer to peak fitness and shouldn’t be ignored. She ran over this track/distance last Wednesday and ran very well in defeat I thought considering she was only second up behind Triechein. She is a swimmer, loves Gawler and has upside.

10 Gold Denari (Bet Now: $5.50) is a smart filly for the Kennewell camp who was very good in her first two runs back from a break before racing over 1200m here last Wednesday where Bowditch gave her a pearler and she rightfully went on with the job for a superb win. Now that she has won, she can go right on with it.

11 Honey Princess (Bet Now: $9.50) is a tick over a month between runs since racing over 1200m at Morphettville on May 24 where she sat near the speed and tried hard in defeat when third to Copernicus. She is a mare who does thrive when she gets her toe in, goes well fresh and back to 1100m is ideal.

4 Pale Ale (Bet Now: $8.00) is the big watch here. Former Jason Coyle trained gelding making his SA debut for Danielle Wilson. On his NSW form, he’d spank these, and his trial leading in was very good to the eye when a close up third. Does tend to race best when produced fresh and I’ll be very interested to see what the market does with him.

5 Breaker Of Chains (Bet Now: $5.00) looks ready for the step up to 1500m. He ran over 1200m here last Wednesday where he was a hard favourite and once again he let the punters down but his effort was sound when third to Siliconni. Up to 1500m could be what this horse is looking for and I’m giving him another chance.

3 I’ll Decide (Bet Now: $3.00) was crunched in betting when taking on the older horses over 1200m at Morphettville a fortnight back and aided by a lovely ride off the pace by Jamie Kah, the daughter of I Am Invincible dashed to the front and held off late challengers. Up to 1500m is the query, but she has upside and Thornton is back on.

7 Unrelated (Bet Now: $12.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Morphettville where he sat off the pace and while he never looked likely, his effort in defeat in a pretty strong race was tidy. Back to 1500m is ideal and his overall form does read well for a race like this. Must include.

3 Game Of War (Bet Now: $4.20) gets the nod for me here in a really tough 3YO contest. He resumes for the Kennewell camp after a two run Autumn prep where he ran well both times but just couldn’t quite get the job done. Did look very sharp in a Parks trial last week and his lone wet track run was a win on debut over 1100m here.

1 Galaxy Falls (Bet Now: $8.00) is a classy Port Lincoln three year old that resumes for the Darryl Carrison yard. He resumes in town which is a good lead. He was too good for them on his home track during their race season and was nommed to run in town shortly afterwards but stable pulled the pin. He’s a big watch here.

9 Vikings Reward (Bet Now: $16.00) was kept a bit safe in betting over 1000m on the Parks track a few weeks back and his effort was much better compared to his opening two runs in the campaign. He showed a bit more desire and purpose to close off his race, so I think that is a good sign getting onto the bigger track now.

2 Stylish Miss (Bet Now: $4.20) is a tough mare for Darren Weir who should take some beating here. Was unwanted in betting when racing over the Valley mile three weeks back but despite that, she led all the way under Beau Mertens and was strong to the line. Up to 1700m is no issue, especially against this lot. One to beat.

7 Municipality (Bet Now: $3.90) had really confident market support for the McEvoy camp when racing over the mile at Morphettville a fortnight back and Holer gave him a peach ride on speed. Looked the winner for the most part when dashing clear but couldn’t hold out Galaxy Gazer late. Draws to get a lovely run here and Thornton takes over.

9 Creance (Bet Now: $17.00) could be the big improver. Macmillan trained galloper who comes here after racing over the Morphettville mile three weeks back where he sat back in a slowly run affair and though he didn’t really come on, he wasn’t beaten far behind Mr Liberty, who ran well last Saturday. One for value for sure.

7 Dollar For Dollar (Bet Now: $2.70) looks a standout on the card. Tony McEvoy trained galloper who was backed as if unbeatable when resuming at Balaklava and despite a few nervous moments in the straight, the big striding horse went right on with it late and was strong to the line. Up to 1500m is perfect and this looks his race.

10 Social Set (Bet Now: $10.00) is a gelding who is absolutely flying at the moment. Bolted up over the Balaklava mile two back before racing over 1800m at Morphettville where he was ridden a treat by Shayne Cahill and clung on to get the win. That was as far as he wants it, so back to 1500m is perfect and is a key threat.

16 Mr Liberty (Bet Now: $9.00) is on the seven day back up after racing over the mile at Morphettville on Saturday where he looked to be bolting behind the speed and when clear he looked the winner but he didn’t go on with it. Gets really good weight relief here after the claim and is a horse who thrives on wet ground.

1 Battle Brewing (Bet Now: $2.50) is a horse who has come back in super order this time in for the Macdonald/Gluyas yard. He hasn’t raced for three weeks since racing over 1200m at Morphettville where he sat on speed and kicked hard down the straight but was nabbed late by Snake Charmer. He is a horse who is quite reliable should he go close here.

16 Patch Hero (Bet Now: $4.40) is a talented mare that resumed for the Francis/Kent stable here on June 14 where she was given a lovely steer from Jamie Kath and bolted up. Should only improve off that and she thrives on wet tracks. Rises in grade but she’s a leading contender.

11 Streetcar Valour (Bet Now: $8.50) is a bit of a non winner, but he is hard fit and will take some catching on speed. Those tactics were used a tick over three weeks at Murray Bridge and he just felt the pinch late behind Edgewood. Maps quite well and young Griffiths is riding in super form at the moment.
