Toowoomba gets its day in the spotlight this Saturday with their metro program, highlighted by the time honoured Weetwood Handicap (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:17) : Moore Trailers Handicap 1100m:

Back Me: 12 Splitter (Bet Now: $4.80) for me here. Well bred filly by Foxwedge who debuts here for the Gollan camp with public hitouts next to her name, but I’ll go on the fact she was down to race last week, where Jim Byrne was booked. He gave up the ride on the Country Championship fav Perfect Dare for this filly. How good is she? We’ll find out here.
Big Danger: 2 Ruby Red Heart (Bet Now: $5.50) was highly talked up by the stable prior to her debut at Doomben and she didn’t let them down with a gritty on speed win over 1200m. She then raced over 1350m a fortnight later and couldn’t finish. Like the fact she has been freshened up, and given the stable have recently moved to Toowoomba, they’d want to make a statement on their first big day on the new home track.
Long Shot: 9 Amelia Jane (Bet Now: $11.00) is a first starter by Real Saga for the Michael Nolan camp. No public trials to speak of, but she is well bred given the mare was pretty handy during her short career, winning a couple of races, and did come to hand early on in her career. Definite market watch with this girl.

Race Two (12:52) : Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Handicap (75) 1300m:

Back Me: 1 Cantbuybetter (Bet Now: $3.80) just picks himself here. Ben Currie has been waiting and waiting to race him since his luckless effort at Doomben a month back behind Siegfried after getting badly held up in the straight, largely due to pilot error. Draws out here, so no chance of a pocket, and the claim for Williams helps big time. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 8 Shipwrecked (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented galloper who is a better horse than what his winning strike rate of four from 22 reads. He resumed behind Always Sacred at Doomben in that race mentioned above and stuck on well given that horse had a picnic in front. Trialled last week at Deagon and won impressively. Leading threat.
Long Shot: 7 Brave Dazzler (Bet Now: $13.00) looks a knockout chance at a price. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight ago where he got off the pace and chased hard down the entire straight but was no match for the above average sprinter Helarocity. The pace looks strong here, and if that does indeed eventuate, he’ll get his chance.

Race Three (13:27) : Aquis Farm Handicap (75) 1300m:

Back Me: 2 Helarocity (Bet Now: $4.60) rises sharply in grade but he deserves a crack at this level. He has been too good for them at benchmark level, with his last two wins coming over 1300m here. This meeting has generally been dominated by the best horse in the race or a track specialist, which this horse is indeed a track specialist.
Big Danger: 4 Always Sacred (Bet Now: $4.00) can be a hard horse to trust but now that he has the last start win under the belt, he can go right on with it. He ran over 1200m at Doomben last time out at the midweeks where he led all the way under Jeff Lloyd and trotted up. That should have done his confidence the world of good and rates highly.
Long Shot: 11 Real Ego (Bet Now: $15.00) will appreciate racing on a firmer surface here after racing on a bog last time out at Doomben and he really struggled on it. To his credit, he stuck on okay when fourth to Prontezza. He is on his home track, he draws well and I think he can get over and sit on the pace without doing much work.

Race Four (14:05) : Simon Home Timber/Hardware Handicap (75) 1300m:

Back Me: Dart board race this. Landed with 3 Kuznetsova (Bet Now: $5.00) for Ben Currie and Jeff Lloyd. This mare ran over 1200m at Doomben a fortnight back on a heavy track and tried hard all the way down the straight when third to the above average filly Candika. Firmer footing will aid her winning claims here and I like that Lloyd is booked.
Big Danger: 1 Don’t Tell Mama (Bet Now: $4.00) is a mare that is low flying this time in for the Sears camp. Hasn’t raced since Feb 11 at Doomben when receiving a lovely ride off the pace and finishing best to get the job done. Form out of that race since has been quite good, and no doubt this mare will be wound up to win on her home track.
Long Shot: The firmer ground will definitely suit 12 Kim Noir (Bet Now: $13.00), who ran on the bog at Doomben a fortnight back and really struggled to pick her feet up when finishing down the track behind Counter Meal. Much better on top of the ground and loves racing on her home track, so she’s a big improver.

Race Five (14:45) : K&R Plumbing Supplies Handicap (80) 1625m:

Back Me: 2 Deconstructed (Bet Now: $4.80) is a galloper who had been frustrating to follow last prep but he has been much better this time in, with some real consistency. He ran over the mile at Doomben last time out where the tempo was against him but ran quite well behind the in form mare Sheiswhatsheis. Looks a clear threat here.
Big Danger: 5 Passionflower (Bet Now: $3.60) is a very consistent mare who is never far away from the action and it was really good to see her get the win on the board last time out at Doomben when settling near the speed and dashing right away late when asked for the big effort. That should toughen her right up for this mile assignment.
Long Shot: 1 Ruling Force (Bet Now: $7.50) will appreciate the rise in trip here. He ran over 1350m at Doomben a fortnight back where he was perhaps ridden a touch too close to the speed and he faded late behind Beatniks. I think he is better when ridden with a sit and from that good draw, I think he can, and we know he has the class/quality.

Race Six (15:25) : Create FS Toowoomba Guineas 1625m:

Back Me: 1 Dreams Aplenty (Bet Now: $2.00) picks herself here. Very good filly who has spanked them in her past two outings, the latest coming over 1350m at Doomben where she sat on speed on a bottomless track and she just lapped them. The mile would be somewhat of a query, but she has the class factor.
Big Danger: 9 Dont Doubt Da Wife (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented three year old filly that is first up here for the Tony Gollan camp. Her form from the Autumn looks very good for this, with efforts behind the likes of Ahndras and Niccanova. Tuned up with a lovely trial effort at Deagon behind talented mare The Last Kiss. Keen to see what she does here.
Long Shot: 6 Captain Dodge (Bet Now: $41.00) is a progressive youngster for Chris Munce who will take some holding out here off the back of a dominant win at the Sunshine Coast where he sat wide no cover yet once asked for the big effort he put them away quite quickly. On that run, he should get the mile here, and there is some upside left I think, plus he was scratched from an easier race during the week.

Race Seven (16:05) : Wippells Autos Toowoomba Cup 2000m:

Back Me: 1 Cylinder Beach (Bet Now: $2.45) just picks himself here. High class animal for Desleigh Forster who dipped his toe into the Sydney Autumn and didn’t quite measure up when finishing midfield in the Doncaster Prelude. 1600m+ is the query with him, but I will bank on his class getting him home, and I am confident it will.
Big Danger: 5 Sheiswhatsheis (Bet Now: $6.00) is another that is a risk at the trip, but it’s hard to ignore what she has done at her past two starts. She has blitzed them both times over the Doomben mile, both times dominating from the front. I think she will lead these for fun, and if she can get a cheap sectional, she’ll take some running down.
Long Shot: 3 Emerald City (Bet Now: $16.00) has been given a five week freshen up since resuming in the Members Cup (1600m) at Eagle Farm where he looked run off his legs early on yet finished off okay late in the piece behind Colour Charge. Could have run in the 1800m Gold Coast, but has been kept on ice for this, and he does have a really good second up record.

Race Eight (16:45) : Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood Handicap 1200m:

Back Me: Landed with 6 Pinch River (Bet Now: $3.40) in a cracking edition of the Weetwood. He has been outstanding in two runs back from a break, both coming over the short course at Doomben where he has spanked them from the front. 1200m is a different kettle of fish and there is more pressure here but last time he was at 1200m, he was four lengths off Fell Swoop. That will do here.
Big Danger: 12 Trubia (Bet Now: $5.00) is the big watch here. Had two runs during the Summer Carnival and didn’t really fire a shot, though he did place first up and worked home okay. I think with this horse, they only have eyes on one thing- the Stradbroke. Current rating won’t get him anywhere near the field so he has to be winning these kind of races and he is very good when produced first up.
Long Shot: 8 Col ‘N’ Lil (Bet Now: $26.00) is a classy mare that resumes here for the Ben Currie camp. Ran in the mile race at this meeting last year, but is clearly a much better horse 12 months on given she has been a multiple Stakes winner. Comes here off the back of no trials, but she does have a tidy first up record and given she is trained on the track, expect her to be forward enough to sprint well fresh.

Race Nine (17:26) : Toowoomba Plastics Plate (Class 6) 1100m:

Back Me: 2 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $3.70) can be hard to trust but I think he can get the job done here. He looked to have every chance last time out at Eagle Farm and looked as if he was going to go straight past Flamboyer but that horse just packed too many punches. I think back to 1200m around this circuit, he can go close to knocking this field off.
Big Danger: 6 Shamfrancisco (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented mare that is first up for the Vandyke camp. She performed quite well during the Spring in lesser company, going through the grades quite nicely. Trialled up well recently on her home track at the Sunny Coast and the gate won’t be an issue for her I don’t think. Keen to see what she does here.
Long Shot: 12 Well Sighted (Bet Now: $81.00) is a former Victorian that had a couple of runs for the Sears camp during the Summer and failed to fire a shot so the stable pulled the pin and tipped him out. He can sprint well fresh and his Victorian form reads very well for a race like this. It’ll be interesting to see the market and what it does, plus how he looks in the yard.

Race Ten: Neil Mansell Transport Plate (Class 6) 1100m:

Back Me: 11 Rhyme Nor Rhythm (Bet Now: $4.80) is a massive threat here. Ran a beauty in town two back behind Tyzone before going to the Dalby Newmarket four weeks back where he just got too far back in the run and was set an impossible task. Just forget he went around there. Go back to his Tyzone run. That effort would see him go very close here.
Big Danger: 14 Forbidden Kisses (Bet Now: $6.00) ran over 1110m at Doomben three weeks ago and ran a beauty I thought behind Rodanos. Got a long way back in the run and was held up for a couple of strides before eventually getting clear and finishing off strongly late in the piece to run second. Only has to repeat that effort here to go close.
Long Shot: Been a while since 4 I Am Boss (Bet Now: $41.00) has contested a race as weak as this class wise, so it will be very interesting to see how he goes here. Three runs back from a break have been below par, but on his day, he can measure up in open handicaps. Draws a lovely gate, on his home track and gets the leading Toowoomba rider steering.
