8/9/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, Theo Marks Stakes day

A cracking program of racing will be run and won at Rosehill this Saturday where it is Run To The Rose Day. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

If 1 Mandylion (Bet Now: $7.00 FAT ODDS) can get a soft lead, she’ll take some beating. Hasn’t won this prep but gee she’s been genuine. Copped pressure at this track/distance a fortnight back and that early burn just told on her late when third to All Too Soon. Confident she goes close provided she doesn’t get too much pressure in front.

4 Impulsive (Bet Now: $7.00 FAT ODDS) is a likely mare for Chris Waller. Was somewhat unwanted in betting when resuming at Newcastle a fortnight back and she absolutely bolted in, drawing clear late for a dominant victory. Blinkers first time and Bowman on tells me there is some intent to run well here, and she certainly has the class to win.

8 Eugene’s Pick (Bet Now: $8.00 FAT ODDS) is a Team Price trained mare who has really come on in leaps and bounds in a short space of time. Bolted up at Kembla before backing up a week later in the All Too Soon race and ran really well to run second. What I will say is that she had the suck run behind Mandylion and only beat her a neck. I think the tables will be turned.

Normal luck and 7 Highway Sixtysix (Bet Now: $3.50 FAT ODDS) should be winning this. Resumed over 1100m here in a Highway a fortnight back and she should have won but the slow beginning put pay to her chances, with Danny Williams saying that the ear muffs had her too relaxed, with the mare flashing hard to run second to Common Purpose. If she puts everything together, she’ll take care of this lot.

12 Handle The Truth (Bet Now: $5.00 FAT ODDS) looks a really nice gelding for the Dryden/Collings team. He was abslutely crunched in betting when resuming over 1000m at Goulburn and the market support was justified with a demolition job, and smashed the clock. 1100m and give in the track are the queries, but he looks a lovely type.

5 Fun Tickets (Bet Now: $21.00 FAT ODDS) is a son of Snippeton resuming for the Matty Dale stable. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Wagga Carnival where he finished midfield over the mile behind the talented galloper Class Clown. He can sprint well fresh and now Canberra horses are eligible for the Highway, I think you’ll see intent with first up runners from the nation’s capital.

5 Renewal (Bet Now: $4.25 FAT ODDS) looks one of the better bets of the day. Team Hawkes trains this gelding, who was very well supported when resuming over 1200m here two weeks ago but his chances were done with after a tardy beginning, getting back soon after but worked home well late behind Don’t Give A Damn. Has to carry the weight successfully and he’ll just about be winning.

1 Don’t Give A Damn (Bet Now: $3.30 FAT ODDS) is the very interesting runner. Danny Williams trains this highly talented but enigmatic galloper who resumed here a fortnight back where Williams gave the horse a good push prior to the race and the market reacted. Tye then gave him the beaut sit off the pace and was never getting beat. This run will tell us if he’s an Epsom contender or not, even with the 64kg.

10 Merovee (Bet Now: $18.00 FAT ODDS)  is a well bred son of Frankel resuming for the Chris Waller team. This bloke has shown glimpses of blacktype talent in the past but hasn’t produced it on a consistent basis. Would love to see him gelded but given the breeding, that won’t be happening. I think whatever he does here, he’ll improve on, but if they go hard, he can threaten late.

I find 1 The Autumn Sun (Bet Now: $2.05 FAT ODDS) a fascinating runner. Resuming at 1500m tells me he’s heading down the staying path and indeed not the Golden Rose. High class colt who did a remarkable job in a short space of time in the Winter, winning on debut on Anzac Day at Randwick before going on to Group l glory in the JJ Atkins. Trials and work leading in has been super and in terms of class/brilliance, he has these covered.

5 Master Ash (Bet Now: $9.50 FAT ODDS) is the three year old that is hard fit and in form. The WaterBott stable trains this colt, who scored a pretty sharp win last time in the Up And Coming, admittedly and on the line he was pretty dominant. Bred to handle a give in the track and his record says that. Query at 1500m, but have to like the way he’s going about it.

8 Tarka (Bet Now: $21.00 FAT ODDS) is a promising colt for David Payne who is likely heading towards the Spring Champion and Derby ala stablemate Ace High from last year. He ran over the Warwick Farm mile last time out where he looked in a bit of trouble but once J Mac got him clear, he surged and comfortably held his rivals. Back 100m in trip the negative but can run well.

4 D’Argento (Bet Now: $3.00) clearly for me. Chris Waller looks to have this bloke cherry ripe for the Epsom. Resumed in the Winx Stakes and he closed off very nicely late in seemingly the worst part of the track. Under these conditions, he does look ideally placed second up and obviously has class. Keen to be with him.

1 Trapeze Artist (Bet Now: $3.00) kicks off his Everest campaign in a pretty hot race it appears and has to give weight to some pretty good gallopers. That being said, he’s one of the best in Australia and really came of age in the Autumm, spanking his rivals in the TJ Smith before repeating the dose in the All Aged. Looks to have come back in super order and while he’ll clearly be soft condition wise, he’s got the class to get home.

3 Shillelagh (Bet Now: $18.00) is a high class mare resuming for Chris Waller. I thought her Brisbane Winter Carnival, which consisted of three runs, was outstanding, including an eye catching sixth in the Stradbroke before a fast finishing second to Prompt Response in the Tatts Tiara. Just one trial leading in but does have a touch of class/quality.

Well done if you got the $13 about 1 Zousain (Bet Now: $4.20) earlier in the week. That was just a very silly opening price for a high class colt, who resumes for Chris Waller. He had a fab Brisbane Winter prep, only going down narrowly in the JJ Atkins at the hands of The Autumn Sun. His trials leading in have been enormous and looks ready to go.

This race will likely tell us if 3 Graff (Bet Now: $2.60) is a contender or pretender. There was alot to like about his resuming win in the San Domenico a fortnight back. He was first up, had the blinkers for the first time and had to make his run nearer the inside, but he put them away quite comfortably. Different class of animal he’s facing here, but he’s got the run under the belt.

12 Smart Elissim (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained colt who won 2/2 to start his career in pretty sharp style before going to the Up And Coming three weeks back where he looked to resent racing tight between horses and didn’t want to let down like we know he can when third to Master Ash. Bolted up on a soft track on debut so any give won’t harm his chances.

6 Champagne Cuddles (Bet Now: $3.10) for me. Bjorn Baker trains this quality mare, who took on the big boys and girls during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and for the most part ran superbly but looked to race like a tired horse in the Stradbroke. Trials leading in have been super and she is an absolute bomb when produced fresh.

2 Formality (Bet Now: $9.00) is a quality mare resuming for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This girl hasn’t raced since the Sangster, where she was primed for a first up Group l win but just didn’t finish it off behind Shoals. Very good fresh horse and has looked the part in a couple of trials in Sydney. Good gate and McEvoy on.

8 Eckstein (Bet Now: $15.00) is a daughter of I Am Invincible resuming for the Kurt Goldman camp. She is absolutely bursting to win a blacktype event and came close on a few occasions during the Autumn but couldn’t quite get there. Looks to be real intent to run well based on a recent Goulburn trial where she bolted up. Think she can run well.

If the resumption didn’t bust her, 4 She Knows (Bet Now: $7.00) will take a power of beating. This girl was seven weeks between runs when racing over this track/distance a fortnight back where she was wide throughout and despite lumping 63.5kg, she still kept attacking the line and was enormous behind Za Zi Ba. Hopefully that hasn’t busted her.

11 Soothing (Bet Now: $2.25) is a daughter of Lonhro who looks to have really turned the corner. Her win over 1000m at Randwick five weeks ago was simply outstanding and she smashed the clock in the process. Been kept on ice and trialled very well to my eye behind Prompt Response. Seems to save her best when on the fresh side, she clearly rates highly.

7 Suncraze (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Mel O’Gorman trained galloper on the Kosciuszko path. First up here and he hasn’t raced since the Tamworth Cup where he seemed to race like a tired horse after a tough outing in the Country Championship Final. He’s a very good fresh horse and has looked great in a couple of trials leading in.

3 Eagle Bay (Bet Now: $8.00) is a working progress for Chris Waller who ran well here I thought a fortnight ago where he got well back in the run, like he did first up, spotting them an impossible start but again worked home well behind Paret. Up to the 1800m third up, he should be ready to show his best. Looks an idea race for him.

7 Zourkhan (Bet Now: $6.00) is a handy stayer for the Chris Waller team who resumed over 1500m here a few weeks ago where he looked big in condition, seemingly in need of the run but he fought hard and got close to winning, finishing a half length of Mapmaker in running third. If the track did happen to get give in it, he’d come right into play.

9 Opposition (Bet Now: $7.50) comes through the Paret race mentioned above and I thought his run was a real eye catcher, warming to the task with real purpose late behind the well fancied stablemate. He’s screaming out of a horse wanting 2000m+ and bear in mind he’s yet to win below 2400m, but hard to ignore that resumption.
