The Parks track at Morphettville is once again where Adelaide metro racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:26) Adelaide Galvanising Handicap 1250m
Keen on the Tony McEvoy trained colt 1 Celtic Rebel (Bet Now: $2.10). This colt debuted at Moe in a 2YO maiden which looked to have good depth to it and for mine, he just got too far back, but liked the way he finished his race behind Wilmot Pass, who was beaten at Caulfield last Saturday but had excuses. Trusting that to be a good form race down the track and expecting this colt to be hard to beat.
4 Tubby Two Tracks (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Declaration Of War filly on debut for the Chris Bieg stable. This girl has had a couple of trials in readiness for her debut, the latest coming here a few weeks back in the field and despite being under riding, did make ground to place in a trial which was okay time wise. Think she needs to improve off that to be winning, but one for multiples.
2 High Advice (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Good Journey on debut for the Mick Minervini stable. This bloke has had one public trial in readiness for start one, which came here when beating home the above average Abshiroo in fast time relative to the morning. Was pushed out but responded well and overall, I don’t think this is the strongest two year old race and he won’t need to be a star to win.
Race 2. (13:01) Barossa Fine Foods Handicap (86) 1950m
2 Silent Warrior (Bet Now: $2.60) to lead all the way hopefully. This Stuart Gower trained stayer can be a bit hit and miss at times but when he finds form, he generally does hold it, and was there good merit in his last start placing at this track/distance. Attempted to lead all the way and tried hard but just found All Too Huiying a tad stronger late. Hopefully leads again and I think with a cheap furlong or two, can turn the tables.
That’s no knock on 1 All Too Huiying (Bet Now: $1.60) because he’s going great guns at the moment for Phillip Stokes. He looked gone here two weeks ago but just kept chipping away under Huxtable and found late to get the win, and that form was franked last week via Lostarc. Likely sits on speed once again, but does race best when leading and controlling things, which won’t happen here I don’t think. Still, a leading chance.
3 Olympic Academy (Bet Now: $13.00) could easily win this if he brings his best. Ran last Saturday over 2400m here and on face value, was terrible behind impressive winner Lostarc, but was found to be lame post race, so a clear excuse there. Small field helps his cause, gets the claim for Caitlin Jones and a few runs ago did beat a field 10 lengths stronger than this race.
Race 3. (13:41) Dominant Handicap (70) 1300m
6 Secretly Discreet (Bet Now: $6.00) hasn’t really done much wrong in her career to date for the Phillip Stokes stable. Took on some handy older gallopers last time out at Sale where she tried hard under Tom Stockdale but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Sir Mask. First look in SA but she finds a winnable race and stable is going really well at the moment, especially in SA.
1 Regalo De Gaetano (Bet Now: $3.90) has done an outstanding job this time in for the Jolly camp, winning three of his four runs. Lovely ride from Caitlin Jones got him the win two back at Balaklava before racing here two weeks ago when sitting off the speed and finishing best out wide, beating Bold Star, who won last Saturday to frank the form. More depth here, but have to like the way he’s going.
7 La Vita (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Stuart Gower trained filly who took a little while to break the maiden but win number one finally came around over 1200m at Gawler a couple of weeks ago, leading throughout and bolting up under Jeff Maund to win impressively. Has run well in town before so no concerns in that regard, and now she’s won a race, she could well go on with it.
Race 4. (14:21) Red, Rock & Ribs Book Now Handicap (75) 1300m
Happy to be with the Michael Hickmott trained mare 9 Lady Bethany (Bet Now: $4.40). This girl has had a couple of runs in Australia after formerly racing in New Zealand, with her maiden win coming last time out at Murray Bridge over 1400m when spanking her rivals, leading all the way to win by 10 lengths. Time was a couple of lengths off the other two 1400m races on the same meeting, but does have upside and stable is going great in recent weeks.
I don’t think 2 Beautiful Flyer (Bet Now: $4.40) is far off a win for the Len Jarvis stable. Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago when back in the run before presenting widest on the turn and finishing off strongly to run fourth to the handy Patrick Payne galloper Street Sheik. That form does read alright for this and I think back to 1300m will be no issue for this daughter of Solo Flyer.
Like the way that 5 First Kiss (Bet Now: $9.50) is going about it for the Phillip Stokes. Was well backed last time out on a bog track at Strathalbyn when back off the speed and presented wider on the turn. Didn’t look like she would get there but Paul Gatt lifted this mare late and the photo went her way in a deceptive finish. Think on firmer footing, she’ll be better off, and stable is going super at the moment.
Race 5. (15:01) James Boags Maiden Plate 1000m
9 Sham I Am (Bet Now: $3.50) on top for Danny O’Brien and Dom Tourneur. Had trialled up well prior to debuting at Ballarat in a maiden which looked to have a little bit of depth to it and after sitting on speed, was headed but fought on well to run third. Don’t think the depth here is any stronger and if he can land near the front without doing too much work, clearly hard to beat.
1 Counter Drive (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained three year old who resumed last week at Balaklava where he was four wide for the trip doing a power of work and gee his run was enormous when beaten narrowly by Rebel Tantrum, but clearly should have won. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll take some beating here despite having numerous chances to break the maiden tag.
2 Dexstra (Bet Now: $14.00) has been quite good in two runs this prep for the Alex Stra stable, the latest over 1200m at Gawler when chasing hard all the way but the leader/winner La Vita dominated proceedings and was too good. Mind you, Dexstra was wide no cover throughout so back to 1000m will be okay provided he gets a more economical run in transit and will be a key threat.
Race 6. (15:41) Hughes Limousines Handicap (86) 1000m
This looks just about D-Day for the Macdonald/Gluyas trained three year old 4 Tequila Time (Bet Now: $3.40). Had a long time but off trialled up really well prior to resuming on the course proper where the saddle slipped, so a total forgive there, before racing down the Flemington straight where he was just off the speed and tired late behind Not Enough Effort. Takes on the older horses here, but it’s not the strongest sprint race going around and at his best, Tequila Time beats these.
3 Barood (Bet Now: $8.50) is a talented son of Choisir for Sue Murphy that resumes. This bloke had a pretty solid Spring/Summer prep, which ended on Adelaide Cup Day when down the track behind Goodwood winner Despatch. Does have a level of residual fitness leading into this, he’s a very good fresh performer and does have a strong record on the Parks track, so a few things going for him.
2 Cashed (Bet Now: $26.00) is a veteran for Ryan Balfour but he still retains a healthy zest for racing. Hasn’t raced since Feb 23 at this track/distance when probably at the end of the prep and a tired horse when down the track behind Domination. Been given a good break and didn’t mind the way he closed off in his latest trial. If they go silly in front, he’ll be one of the strongest late.
Race 7. (16:21) TAB Handicap (75) 1250m
1 Vieira (Bet Now: $7.50) for me. Leah Conlon trainst his gelding, who is on the quick back up after racing here last Saturday when on speed and trying hard but couldn’t quite finish it off behind two hard fit horses in Bel Sonic and Debt Collector, having to settle for third but far from disgraced. Gets run of the race stuff from the gate and is well in after the claim for Cartwright.
D-Day for 7 Illumicon (Bet Now: $2.20). Has threatened to win a race for a little while but yet to do it in three runs this time in, the latest here two weeks ago when a narrow second to Akkacan after doing work in the run. That could be on the cards once again from the tricky draw, and there appears to be a bit more depth, so for mine, he’s too short, but concede his best is good enough.
Getting away from blacktype company will suit the Barry Brook trained 6 Kabini (Bet Now: $6.00). Was very good two back in the Oakbank Stakes behind Goodwood winner Despatch before going to the Proud Miss where not much went her way re luck and should have finished closer behind Lady Cosmology. I think back to this level for the mare will see her prove hard to beat.
Race 8. (17:00) AAMI Handicap (64) 1400m
Does look really good placement by Michael Hickmott when it comes to 2 Cannot Be Serios (Bet Now: $5.00), who has contested 75 and 70 races in recent times and now drops to 64 grade. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and was quite good in defeat when fifth to Street Sheik. So well in after the claim for Huxtable and for mine is clearly the horse to beat.
11 Sorority Lass (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Peter Gelagotis trained filly who comes to Adelaide off the back of a maiden win. That win came on the Synthetic at Pakenham when given a sweet steer by McNeil and once asked for the big effort, she put them away and was impressive. Not sure she beat much, but all you can do is win and she does find a really winnable 64 race, especially from a good draw.
12 Curtain Call (Bet Now: $20.00) looks as if he’s looking for 1400m. Was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1300m last time out at Balaklava where he had the cold sit behind the speed and tried hard but lacked the sprint when fourth to Lucky Break. Interesting to see he has been specked in early betting and he once again draws well, plus gets the 3kg off after the claim for Kate Cowan.
