Gosford will host its first ever stand alone Saturday meeting, headlined by the inaugural edition of The Coast (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:45) Central Coast Granite Hcp 1200m
3 Overpass (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) looks a sharp colt for Bjorn Baker. Just got the win two back at Orange, but he was more impressive at Warwick Farm last time out. Landed on speed and once he was clicked up, away he went and he was dominant. Tricky draw, but he looks a likely type that can measure up here.
7 Anagain (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS) does bring with her the A1 form being a last start runner up at Randwick during the Championships. I loved the way she closed off in that particular race behind Paulele, who is a solid juvenile for Godolphin. She’ll sit back off the speed and be strong late.
2 Conexy (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) returns to racing as a gelding and I am quite keen to see how he goes. Chris Waller trained juvenile that hasn’t raced since running last in the Lonhro Plate after getting quite keen in the run. Thought the Rosehill trial win was a lovely piece of work and is in the right camp.
Race 2. (12:20) Tooheys (bm78) 1200m
I’ll go the way of 4 Henschel (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS). Allan Denham trains this gelding, who was such a sharp winner last time out at Newcastle. Admittedly, had the suck run in transit, but still had to take advantage of it, and that he did, showing brilliant change up speed to put the race to bed in a matter of a couple of strides. When he is right, he is city class, so hopefully he can confirm that here.
5 Rammstein (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates, but he has the right racing pattern and this track, on speed/rail is likely to be the A1 spot. Attempted to lead throughout fresh at Canterbury and gave a really good kick from the front. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and was nabbed late by Olympic Legend. If he can harness his energy better, he’ll take beating.
8 Blondeau (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a son of I Am Invincible for Chris Waller that resumes. Early days, he was being talked as a Golden Slipper horse as a juvenile. He didn’t live up to that hype, but he is getting better with age and racing. Last run came in February when a strong fourth to Sky Lab, a form line which reads well for this, so watch the market.
Race 3. (12:55) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1200m
1 Mr Wong (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake. Just forget he went around fresh at Randwick. He wanted to hang out on the turn, didn’t let down at all and was pretty poor. He was found to be slow to recover post race, so there were excuses. Lobs into a lovely spot from the draw and will be strong late.
18 Faatinaat (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) is a progressive filly from Taree who is putting together a tidy little record. Has won 2/3 this time in, both wins coming at Port Macquarie, her latest start being a strong win over 1200m. This isn’t the strongest of Highways and she’s right down in the weights.
3 King’s Champ (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) has solid wet track form and does come through a strong form reference, being the Highway from two weeks ago at Randwick. He didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight and I think with clear air, he’s in the finish behind Ahead Start. Knockout chance.
Race 4. (13:30) Hoolihan Partners Consult-bm72 1600m
4 Tectonicus (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) should prove hard to beat for the Ryan/Alexiou camp. Ran over 1550m at Canterbury last time out when on speed throughout and tried hard. Just failed to finish it off when third to Savoury, who went within a lip of winning last Saturday, so the form reads well for a race like this.
5 Nyami (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) should appreciate the rise to 1600m. Resumed on the Kenso track where he got back to near last in the run and while he wasn’t a winning threat, I liked the way he found the line late for a horse that will be better suited over further, which is what he is here, and has more upside than most.
1 Montserrat (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) does his best racing from the front so anticipating an aggressive steer from Sherry to land near the front. Sat off speed fresh at Canterbury and just whacked away without threatening. If he can land on speed without doing too much work, he’ll run a bold race.
Race 5. (14:05) Ironhorse (bm78) 2100m
I’m with 4 My Swashbuckler (Bet Now: $4.60). Import that hadn’t exactly set the world on fire since arriving, so the stable sent him to a Class 1/Maiden here on Anzac Day, perhaps to get a look at the track in readiness for this race, and he gave them a spanking, justifying the $1.75 quote. He can go on with it now.
5 So Wicked (Bet Now: $4.20) is a hard mare to catch at times, but she does try hard, puts herself on speed and is honest, more often than not. Led most of the way to win at Canterbury last time, kicking strongly from the front and finding plenty under pressure. Lands on speed here and will give herself every chance.
If there is a knockout chance, I think it is 3 High Opinion (Bet Now: $16.00). He had no chance given the race shape on the Kenso on Anzac Day, but Loved the way he closed off late in the piece behind Mr Dependable. Good third up record and the rise to 2100m should be ideal. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 6. (14:40) Takeover Target 1200m
Disappointing nominations and a disappointing field. I think 4 Enchanted Heart (Bet Now: $2.90) deserves another chance. She was a strong winner fresh at Canterbury, beating Lost And Running. Clashed with that horse at Randwick and was beaten comprehensively by him, with the O’Shea horse looking a Group l talent. That form reads well for this I feel.
1 Signore Fox (Bet Now: $3.80) is a hard horse to follow and trust but he is capable. Lovely ride from J Mac saw him win the Star Kingdom fresh before going to the Hall Mark where he seemed to have his chance behind the heavily backed Splintex. This is a weak race, so he only has to hold his form.
2 Easy Eddie (Bet Now: $3.00) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake and I think the little bit of juice in the track is perfect for him. He has found firm ground his past couple and has run okay without setting the world on fire. This race looks a really good set up for him so he can run a much improved race.
Race 7. (15:20) Gosford Cup 2100m
Having a throw at the stumps in the shape of 1 Young Rascal (Bet Now: $14.00). His best would see him beat these and I think the little bit of juice in the track is perfect for him for his return. Talented stayer for Archie Alexander that hasn’t done much since being transferred from William Haggas but his recent trial was a nice piece of work and he is a swimmer.
9 Polly Grey (Bet Now: $3.20) looks primed to run well. Somewhat of a lucky winner of the Epona two back, but proved that was no fluke in the JRA Plate with an eye catching finale behind Polly Grey after getting back and held up. Was a month between runs there as well, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
15 Aliferous (Bet Now: $10.00) is a tease, a bludger even. Last time she won, rainbows were black and white. But, I reckon this is a plan from Kris Lees and connections. Very good in defeat in the Neville Sellwood so was freshened up and I’d suggest had a prep run on the Kenso over 1800m behind Mr Dependable. Fitter, up to 2100m, down in the weights…I think she’s a sneaky chance.
Race 8. (16:00) The Coast 1600m
9 Nudge (Bet Now: $6.50) is flying for Chris Waller and I think that can result in a feature race win here. She has been outstanding in three runs back from a break, the latest effort being at Randwick two weeks ago when second to Rocha Clock after getting back in the run. Hard fit at the mile, she’s the one for me.
3 All Saint’s Eve (Bet Now: $6.50) is the class runner of the field and that will carry her a long way here. Far from disgraced in the Queen Of The Turf I thought behind Nettoyer after getting back to near last in the run. This is a serious drop in depth/grade for this mare and we know her best is more than good enough.
4 Arapaho (Bet Now: $8.00) is an interesting runner. Former French galloper that made his Australian debut over 1400m at Randwick a fortnight ago and I liked the way he finished his race off between runners when sixth to Rocha Clock, beaten just under two lengths. Progressive and fitter, up to the mile, he appeals.
Race 9. (16:40) Brook Group (bm78) 1200m
Is this a potential Tatts Tiara prep kick off point for 1 April Rain? (Bet Now: $2.00) Not sure, but what I do know is that she is a Stakes winner in waiting. Quality mare for Chris Waller that came of age last prep, winning 3/3 and each time she was impressive. Couple of soft trials to get ready but I think she has these covered re class.
5 Exotic Ruby (Bet Now: $5.50) is a daughter of Snitzel for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that resumes. This mare hasn’t raced since March 3 when a strong on speed winner at Warwick Farm and I do love horses that go to the paddock on a high. Trials leading in have been good and should get through wet ground okay.
3 Willowheart (Bet Now: $7.50) is a stablemate of April Rain that does have race fitness on her side. Forget she went around at Warwick farm last time out. Got caught back in the ruck and failed to come, then was found to be 1/5 lame, so there were excuses. She deserves another chance here.
