Race 1. (12:20) Midway (Bm72) 1600m
7 Pocketing (Bet Now: $2.70) should appreciate a rise to the mile after racing over 1400m at Rosehill last Wednesday when off speed and worked home with purpose late in the piece when a close up third to Flying Thinker. He was terrible, but had excuses, the start prior, and before that, he was bursting to win a race. Hard to beat.
1 Promitto (Bet Now: $9.50) will jump on the bunny and take running down, as seen a fortnight back in a Midway at Rosehill. He got front end control and looked the winner when he kicked clear but just lacked the polish to put them away late. Hard fit, he’s in the mix.
6 Herb (Bet Now: $16.00) is a chance with his best. He ran down the track behind Rush Attack at Rosehill last time in the Midway where he was back near last in a race dominated by those up/in, and was never really a factor. Not sure he is a horse I could back to win but can run top four.
Race 2. (12:55) Fireball Stakes 1100m
3 Zeitung (Bet Now: $3.50) is a quality filly for James Cummings that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since the Thousand Guineas when off the speed and seemed to have her chance but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Another Prophet. Two trials under the belt and appears ready to run well fresh.
5 Enriched (Bet Now: $6.50) is a key chance. He resumed behind Boston Rocks a fortnight back where he got a fair way back off the speed but tracked up and loomed. Just think condition gave way late in the piece when third. Fitter, can settle closer in the run and be effective late.
2 Drifting (Bet Now: $7.50) is dangerous with her best. This filly hasn’t raced since Feb 8 at Caulfield when a bit on the plain side and was never really a factor behind Arabian Summer. Back in Sydney and a recent tick over trial was pretty good. Her best is good enough to win.
Race 3. (13:30) Reisling Stakes 1200m
4 Dushenka (Bet Now: $23.00) is several weeks between runs since a strong win on debut at Eagle Farm. Admittedly she had the tempo set up for her but she lapped it up and was dominant late in the piece. Can she make it 2/2? If so, they can start thinking of better races.
3 Tempted (Bet Now: $3.00) has the runs on the board to say she’s hard to beat. She ran two weeks ago in the Blue Diamond where she got back to near last in the run and on a day where up/in was good, she closed off with real purpose late in the piece. Back to this level, she clearly takes beating.
6 Marhoona (Bet Now: $10.00) steps up to 1200m for Michael Freedman after a debut win over 1100m at Canterbury where she got better as the race went on, driving hard late to win and win well. The rise to 1200m and with that run under the belt, she is one of the leading contenders.
Race 4. (14:05) Todman Stakes 1200m
1 North England (Bet Now: $9.00) is ripping colt for GaiBott that debuts, having not raced since a strong on speed win in the Golden Gift where he was there to be run down but found under pressure to fend them off and win. His trial work has been electric, he’ll land in front and take running down.
5 Wodeton (Bet Now: $2.05) would want to win this and win it well to maintain the dominance he has in Slipper betting. Total forgive in the Silver Slipper where he was wide no cover throughout yet kept finding the line in a pretty good effort in defeat. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll clearly take beating.
10 Buffalo (Bet Now: $34.00) is going to make a lovely horse once he steps up in trip. He resumed in the Silver Slipper two weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground and was never really got involved, but the last 50-75m, he worked home with real purpose and was quite good in defeat. Fitter, 1200m, bigger track, I think he’ll only run well.
Race 5. (14:40) Aspiration Quality 1600m
1 Hinged (Bet Now: $4.60) should appreciate a rise to 1600m for Chris Waller after resuming two weeks back in the Millie Fox where she just found them a bit sharp but kept on and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Firestorm. Fitter and up in trip, she’ll only run well against these.
3 Mare Of Mt Buller (Bet Now: $3.40) is four weeks between runs for Chris Waller since racing at this track/distance when back off the speed and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and was pretty good late in the piece behind Point And Shoot. Tick over trial was good and is well in at the weights.
4 Genzano (Bet Now: $14.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m here where she got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through, but that said, I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind More Territories. Hard fit and at the mile, she’s an improver.
Race 6. (15:15) Challenge Stakes 1000m
3 Kallos (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be humming for James Cummings. His last run came during Cup Week at Flemington when close up in the Century down the straight. He was absolutely trucking on speed last week in a Hawkesbury trial win and is firing to go fresh I say. Watch the market.
10 Kimochi (Bet Now: $4.00) is a class mare for Gary Portelli that resumes. This girl is first up, ending the Spring on a high when taking out the Rupert Clarke. 1000m is clearly short of her best, but with a stack of early speed engaged, she can launch at them late in the piece.
6 Jedibeel (Bet Now: $9.50), I dare say, will have eyes on The Galaxy with a forward showing here, and I suspect he’s ready to go. He trialled last week at Hawkesbury where he chased a tearaway leader but loved the way he closed off under minimal riding. Very reliable horse, especially fresh, and is fine at 1000m.
Race 7. (15:50) Randwick Guineas 1600m
2 Swiftfalcon (Bet Now: $5.00) is a very good horse and I think he’ll take a power of beating, especially if he can settle closer. He was dragged back to last in the Hobartville and while he was back and never a threat, he went like a rocket late when second to Broadsiding. I think he has the potential to be a better horse than Broadsiding and he has more upside/improvement I dare say.
1 Broadsiding (Bet Now: $1.65) is a class animal and is clearly hard to beat off the back of his Hobartville win. He got into a dream spot just off the speed and once he landed in a plum spot, he was arrogant late the way he put them away to win and win well. He’ll be around the mark…just seems on the short side.
4 China Sea (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver up in trip despite having eyes on the Rosehill Guineas/Derby. He got back off the speed in the Hobartville and just lacked the change up speed but kept finding the line in a solid enough return. I doubt he’s good enough to win but he can run top four.
Race 8. (16:30) Canterbury Stakes 1300m
10 Magic Time (Bet Now: $4.20) for me, and clearly. Class mare that resumed with a bang in the Expressway three weeks and yes, it was a barrier trial, but she still had to produce change up speed and that she did. Iowna Merc franked the form last Saturday but she is a proven big time performer here and likes juice in the track, plus has been set for the race. Keen.
9 Sunshine In Paris (Bet Now: $7.00) is a class mare for the Neasham/Archibald camp that resumes. She hasn’t raced since taking out the Champions Sprint at Flemington, getting a 12/10 steer by J Mac in driving hard late to score. Bomb fresh horse and her trial work has been more than encouraging.
6 Royal Patronage (Bet Now: $20.00) is a class animal for GaiBott that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Cox Plate when thrown in the deep end and didn’t measure up at all behind Via Sistina, but by then was a tired horse after a busy opening Australian prep. He has looked great in a couple of trials and was a bomb first up last prep.
Race 9. (17:10) Randwick City Stakes 2000m
There is clear intent here for mine with 3 Warmonger (Bet Now: $26.00). Last time he raced this way, he went like a rocket in the QLD Derby. Just needed the run fresh at the mile. Now in Sydney, trial last week, especially through the line, was very good. The forecast for rain is perfect and what i have noticed is that the Price/Kent Sydney base is going very well. He’s the class of the field.
4 Asterix (Bet Now: $4.40) looks ready to rock and roll for Chris Waller after two teasing runs to start the prep. Latest run was two weeks ago in the Parramata Cup when off speed and just kept finding the line in a really good effort in defeat behind Our Anchorage. Hard fit now, 2000m, he rates highly.
5 Francesco Guardi (Bet Now: $46.00) might want one more but he does have class when right. He resumed in the Parramatta Cup two weeks back where he got back and just looked in need of the run, but his late splits weren’t actually too bad in defeat I thought. Might need another run, but at Randwick, I say he’s a big improver.
Race 10. (17:50) Wenona Girl Quality 1200m
10 Clear Thinking (Bet Now: $5.50) should take a power of beating here. She is three weeks between runs since contesting the Triscay at this track/distance where she just got too far back but I loved the way she closed off late in the piece when third. Likes getting her toe in so the rain forecast is ideal and with a more positive ride, she takes beating.
4 Commemorative (Bet Now: $4.60) comes through the Triscay from three weeks ago where she got off speed and seemingly had her chance but was still a definite pass mark in defeat behind inhibitions. Not a noted second up horse and I think would prefer a firmer deck, but has to be respected.
11 The Black Cloud (Bet Now: $14.00) likes getting her toe in and is capable. She ran behind Time To Boogie two weeks back where she was wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told on her late in the piece. Better run in transit, she can run top four.
