Racing returns to the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday, where nine races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Back Me

Third up from a break, 1 God’s Penny (Bet Now: $3.00) should be close to peak fitness. This guy has had both starts this prep at Murray Bridge, the latest seeing him sit five wide for the trip and was quite good in defeat behind Little Rich Boy, who has since run well at Flemington. Better luck this time around and he can clearly take this out

Danger

4 Trip (Bet Now: $3.60) has some good form around her and 1000m is her A1 trip. That’s the distance she ran over four weeks ago at Murray Bridge and tried hard but was no match for Little Rich Boy, who ran a beauty at Flemington next time, so the form reads well and she does seem a filly that races best when produced with fresh legs.

Long Shot

6 Exalted Zoe (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Grant Young trained filly that had trialled up well prior to debuting at Oakbank and despite doing a bit wrong in the straight, she was very good I felt in winning and the form out of that maiden has already been franked. Better suited on the bigger track here IMO and don’t mind her back to 1000m.

Race 2. (13:21) M&J Chickens Handicap 1550m

I think class gets 3 Jaguary (Bet Now: $3.20) home here. Talented animal for the in form Travis Doudle camp that resumes, having not raced since November 22 over 2040m at the Valley when a close up fourth to Arctic Shock. Big win first up in the lone fresh run for the stable and did look quite sharp last week in a jumpout here, so I think he’s ready to go.

Danger

5 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $5.00) had been racing in good form for Gordon Richards without winning but his time in the spotlight came two weeks ago at Gawler where he had the lightweight and showed a really good turn of foot between the 300m-150m before fending off the late closers. Remains down in the weights and now he has a win, he can go on with it.

Long Shot

4 Karlovasi (Bet Now: $10.00) is racing pretty well at the moment for Team Jolly without winning. Was on a hot speed three weeks ago at Murray Bridge and was entitled to drop away and run last, but he kicked on and was good despite being beaten a few lengths by Hasta La War. If he can get a more economical run this time around, he can bounce back.

Race 3. (13:56) Dominant Handicap 1400m

Back Me

6 Autumn Splendour (Bet Now: $8.00) on top. Have always had time for this Phillip Stokes trained filly and I think third up from a spell, she should be close to peak fitness. Thought she was most disappointing first up behind Iscariot before going to Gawler after a four week break and was much better when a closing third to Just Zerene. Looking for more ground and is hard fit, so she gets her chance, but it’s D-Day.

Danger

2 Iscariot (Bet Now: $3.80) a key threat for me. Will Clarken trains this three year old, who resumed with a tough on speed win to break the maiden tag at Morphettville before having a few weeks off and jumping to 1400m from 1050m, where he led, controlled things, tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Ethical Solution, who won again last Saturday. Looks the leader here and should be hard fit.

Long Shot

5 Sowpods (Bet Now: $21.00) is a son of Wordsmith for the Gordon Richards camp that is resuming, potentially on a SA Derby path perhaps. He got out to 1800m during the Spring in the Hill Smith where he was on speed and fought on super but couldn’t quite finish it off. Been given a good break and did trial well last week at Gawler. 1400m first up tells me he’s forward enough to run a bold race.

Race 4. (14:31) Furphy Handicap 1250m

Back Me

Peter Hardacre has 2 Magic Reward (Bet Now: $3.50) flying and I think she can make it three on the bounce. Ran over 1200m at Warrnambool last time out when getting a dream sit just off the speed before angling into clear air and in a driving go, finished best. Little query at 1250m, but I’m hoping she gets a soft trip and a drag up into the race.

Danger

3 Sir Johnson (Bet Now: $7.00) is looking for a bit further but I reckon he’s in for a good prep. Resumed over 1200m at Gawler two weeks ago and I thought his effort in defeat was enormous given he was three and four wide for the trip and actually did a great job to get as close as he did. Better luck this time around and he can win provide that resumption hasn’t busted him.

Long Shot

5 Yin And Yang (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Justin Pickering trained gelding who seems to be getting better with racing. Ran in a Bordertown maiden last time and while he beat camels, he spanked those camels, winning by over five lengths, which flattered his rivals. Overall, this isn’t a strong Saturday race and he has gate one, so he has a bit going for him.

Race 5. (15:06) AAMI Handicap 1950m

Back Me

6 Zhenya (Bet Now: $10.00) on top for me. Gemma Rielly trains this gelding, who comes through the Hanging Rock Cup and if you were on him, it was a bit of an ugly watch. Just had no luck at all when Bowditch was probing for clear air and pretty much the last 400m was a barrier trial for him. This is a rather weak race, so just has to hold his form to go close to winning.

Danger

10 Cobbers Mate (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Ryan Balfour trained stayer that is racing pretty well at the moment. Attempted to lead throughout last Wednesday at Gawler and to his credit, he gave a really good kick when asked to respond, but was bloused late by a handy one in Looking Around. Looks to get a good run in transit here. Just depends if he has the speed in the legs.

Long Shot

5 Disco Rebel (Bet Now: $10.00) has been really frustrating to follow this prep. Early on in the campaign, she looked like she would win a few races in town but overall, she’s been really disappointing. Last run came at Bordertown when third to the in form Pass The Glass after getting every chance. Back to the Parks track, giving her another chance.

Race 6. (15:41) Terry Howe Printing Handicap 1400m

Back Me

In the corner of 1 Eagle Ridge (Bet Now: $2.50), who is racing well this time in for Michael Moroney. Ran at Sandown last time when wide no cover throughout but stayed on strongly and wasn’t beaten far in a blanket finish when a close up fifth to The Closer. Draws a soft gate with the claim for Jerry Chau, he’s very likeable against these.

Danger

5 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare who is racing really well at the moment. This mare won impressively two back at Murray Bridge before racing there again last time out where she tried hard but couldn’t quite get past Sky Punch. Tricky draw, but if she can get a drag up into the race, she’ll be dangerous.

Long Shot

Giving respect to 9 Lope De Wolf (Bet Now: $13.00) for the Francis/Kent team. This gelding resumed over 1200m at Murray Bridge where he had the soft run just off the speed before peeling wider and looming large to win. Condition just gave out late when third to Ancient History. Has a really good second up record and finds a very winnable race.

Race 7. (16:21) TAB Handicap 1000m

Back Me

2 White Kaps (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Gordon Richards trained sprinter who can mix his form at times but has to be respected off his last start effort at Murray Bridge. Admittedly, the race was set up for swoopers, but he still had to take advantage of it, and he did, closing off strongly to run third to Shamino, who is one of the more in form gallopers in SA at the moment. That form reads well for this.

Danger

1 Tiara Star (Bet Now: $2.80) will need some luck in running from gate one, but she’s got these covered re class. Hasn’t raced for five weeks since taking on the Mares at Caulfield and on face value was pretty ordinary but was later found to be lame, so there were excuses. Drops miles in depth, has gate one and gets the claim, so she’s really well in.

Long Shot

7 Ready Sunshine (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the seven day back up for the Ryan Balfour stable after racing on the course proper here last Saturday where he was back near last off a good speed before peeling wide on the turn and making up good ground at the end when second to impressive winner and the in form Sonic Deed. Saves his best for the Parks track and is better suited on firmer footing.

Race 8. (17:01) Adelaide Cup Day, March 9 Hcp 1250m

Back Me

11 Symphonette (Bet Now: $3.30) looks to have found a very winnable race. Admittedly she hasn’t won in a little while but she has been racing in some tidy races in Victoria and has been far from disgraced, the latest coming at Sandown when beaten a few lengths by Minyinga in what was pretty much a 400m dash. Overall depth not as strong and her best efforts have come when racing in SA.

Danger

7 Exalted Trail (Bet Now: $5.50) has been quite disappointing at his past couple. Three back he was outstanding from the back in the Christmas Handicap behind Ef Troop, hence why I was really keen on him at Gawler but he could only manage fourth to Atomic Lokade. Then went to Murray Bridge and was most disappointing behind Two Odd Sox. Giving him one more look before penning him.

Long Shot

9 Lucky Flipper (Bet Now: $18.00) interests me at a price for Brian Mueller. Bonny mare that is rising nine years of age, but each prep puts in and picks up decent prizemoney. Resumes here on a track she likes, she can sprint well fresh, and thought she closed off well in a Strathalbyn jumpout earlier this week. One for multiples I’d suggest.

Race 9. (17:41) Chalk Hill Handicap 1550m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

Peter Hardacre has a pretty good mare on his hands here in the shape of 8 Kyshaka (Bet Now: $2.90), who comes here off the back of two sharp wins, firstly at Terang before racing at the mile at Murray Bridge three weeks ago and gee she was impressive the way she put them away. Good test here, but think she can measure up once again.

Danger

5 Darlamax (Bet Now: $3.30) is the very interesting runner. Mark Webb trains this gelding, who has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Latest run came at Sandown on January 8 when a fast finishing second to Think ‘N’ Fly, who won again since to tick that form off. This horse was down to run a couple of weeks ago at Sandown but was a scratching behind the barriers, so a heap of gear to hopefully entice him to get into the barriers. Form is good enough to win.

Long Shot

10 Serious Spender (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to be ticking along quite nicely for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable and a win isn’t far off. Resumption behind Enough Swagger was a beauty before going to Oakbank where I’m not sure that track suited her but loved the way she closed off late when a narrow second. Hard fit now up to 1550m on a bigger track, she appeals. She’s not a long shot as such, but is the only other winning hope.
