Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:47) MADISON CLEANING SERVICES Class 3 Plate 1825m
Going the way of 9 Advance Warning (Bet Now: $7.50) in the opener for Tony Gollan. He ran over 1800m at the Sunny Coast last Wednesday where he wasn’t really suited by the slow tempo but found the line well enough late behind the in form Certain Doubt. Does get a weight pull on that horse here and can sit much closer in the run from the good draw. Hard to beat I think.
Couldn’t back 11 Miss Shanti (Bet Now: $2.10) to win with borrowed money but concede she’s going okay and will be thereabouts once again. Stuck to the task well two back behind Ilwendo before backing up a week later at the Gold Coast (Metro) where she just whacked away behind Outraged. I think back to 1800m will suit her, she’s going well…just not winning.
3 Picaro (Bet Now: $5.00) is racing in okay form at the moment for Gary Portelli. He ran over this trip at Newcastle last time where he had to switch a couple of times in the straight and you can make a case that he should have won when beaten narrowly by Zoffany’s Lad. Finds a very weak Class 3 and stable had good success last week via the enigma Single Bullet.
Race 2. (12:23) BRISBANE NEUROSURGERY BM78 Handicap 1600m
2 Zofonic Dancer (Bet Now: $19.00) comes through the Kubis race from three weeks ago over 1400m here and I thought he ran well enough behind his stablemate considering he was first up and over an unsuitable trip, which is the concern here. I think he is looking for the mile now, and perhaps third up is when to back him, but no real serious depth here, so he’s the one for me.
8 Trevelyan (Bet Now: $3.20) looks one of the hardest to beat. John Meagher trains this gelding, who was over a month between runs when racing over the mile here three weeks ago and I thought he found the line very well from off the pace when second to Looks Like Elvis. Is unknown beyond 1600m so like him remaining at the mile and he’s one of the hardest to beat here IMO.
What to do with 6 See The Master (Bet Now: $18.00). Was keen on him running well first up and he did that at the Sunny Coast behind Say I Cee You, then was awful three weeks ago behind Looks Like Elvis, but that form has been ticked off, so he’s got the form around him to run well. If you go off the first up effort, he’s right in this. Just hope last start was a one off.
Race 3. (12:58) MADISON CLEANING SERVICES Handicap 1200m
10 Smug Satisfaction (Bet Now: $4.60) for me. Michael Costa trains this mare, who was absolutely luckless first up behind Fuji Flyer, who has franked the form since. This mare ran at the metro meeting there two weeks ago and was a bit flat behind Langhro, but her previous form lines second up suggested that could be on the cards. It also suggests she can bounce back hard third up.
Gary Portelli had success here last Saturday with Single Bullet and he brings another enigma to Brisbane in the shape of 5 Moccasin Miss (Bet Now: $5.00), who hasn’t raced for four weeks since racing at Rosehill when setting the speed and tiring late behind the in form and above average Haut Brion Her. I think she’s much better when ridden with a sit, so if that can eventuate here, she’ll take some beating.
1 Malmoosa (Bet Now: $41.00) is a sharp improver second up. This mare resumed in the Murwillumbah Newmarket where she was disappointing on face value, but she’s not really a known first up performer and the track pattern for the day was suiting those on speed. She has a very good second up record and now back to Mares grade, she really appeals as a knockout chance.
Race 4. (13:33) UMS SCHOOL WEAR OPEN Handicap 1200m
Going the way of 2 Snoopy (Bet Now: $4.60). This bloke hasn’t raced for five weeks since racing over 1200m at Doomben when near the speed throughout and trying hard but just failing to pick up Tarzan in a fast run race in good time. Fresh is best for this horse, so like the little break between runs and with good speed engaged here, can see him sitting off it and being strong late.
3 Scallopini (Bet Now: $2.70) is a talented animal for Steve O’Dea that resumes. This guy really came of age in the Autumn, winning two of three and looking a borderline Stakes class horse, which is where he may end up at some stage this prep. 1200m is a tad short of his best, but he can sprint well fresh and loved the way he went in a recent barrier trial behind Capital Connection.
1 The Candy Man (Bet Now: $9.00) is likely going to use this as a barrier trial for better races, but he’s one that could be included in multiples. He stepped up big time during the Winter Carnival, graduating from midweek grade to a Stakes winner. The stable has eyes on better races down South, so whatever he does here, he will improve on, but he could produce a decent run and run first four.
Race 5. (14:08) QTIS 3YO Handicap 1400m
11 Epicurious (Bet Now: $21.00) is bursting to win a race and I she gets a great chance here despite it being a 3YO open handicap. She’s still a maiden, but she has showed at her past two that she can measure up here, running well behind Alligator Blood two back before racing at the Gold Coast (Metro) where she closed off well late behind Astro Toy Boy. 1400m on the big track, she’ll be hard to beat.
8 Lady Appleton (Bet Now: $3.40) has done quite a good job this time in, winning 2/2. Resumed with an impressive win at Ipswich before going to the Gold Coast where she handled the step up to 1300m quite comfortably and was impressive, running really good time in the process. Harder here, but each time she has been asked to raise the bar this prep, she’s handled it.
I think 1400m and the bigger track will really suit 5 Baby Boomer (Bet Now: $7.50). This Tony Gollan trained three year old ran over 1100m at Ipswich last time where he just got a little bit lost around the tight track but balanced up again and was really good late when a narrow second to Magic Trick. Up to 1400m I like and this race, overall, doesn’t appear to be overly strong.
Race 6. (14:43) QSCAN RADIOLOGY CLINICS BM70 Handicap 1400m
I think 6 Sienna Rose (Bet Now: $2.80) can go right on with it now. It was D-Day for her three weeks back over 1400m here. I thought she was a good thing so was really surprised to see her drift big time late in betting but she was the winner on the turn. Just a matter of how far and how far turned out to be 1.75L, which flattered her rivals. Hopefully she can improve from that and go on with it.
13 Dreamtimer (Bet Now: $3.00) is on the seven day back up for Kevin Kemp after racing over 1200m here last Saturday where she was backed as if unbeatable and halfway down the straight, she indeed looked the winner, but was pipped near the peg by a horse on the quick back up, Veranes. Dreamtimer is yet to do the quick back up but remains down in the weights and has won up to 1350m.
12 So Invincible (Bet Now: $15.00) could be worth something small each way. He was five weeks between runs when racing over 1200m at the Sunny Coast last Wednesday and liked the way he found the line late when third to Desert Digby. Should be able to sit much closer in the run from the good draw and recent meetings, being near the rail has been no disadvantage.
Race 7. (15:22) ASCOT PLUMBING Class 6 Handicap 1000m
The key to 10 Lifesaver (Bet Now: $4.60) is 1000m, fresh legs and dry ground. That is his go in life and he gets that set up here. He hasn’t raced since June 22 at this track/distance when fourth to Hirtshals where he just got too far back in the run and was forced quite wide on the turn. Much better suited here I think and at his best, he’s certainly up to beating these. Market will be the guide.
Fascinating runner is 1 Memes (Bet Now: $5.00), formerly with Jason Coyle but finds herself at the Gold Coast under the care of an in form Michael Costa. This mare was borderline Stakes class when racing in Sydney, including a fourth to Prompt Response at Group ll level in 2018. Those days are behind her, but gee she finds a lovely race here and did look to trial up well last week.
14 Takes Time (Bet Now: $13.00) is a handy animal for Lindsay Gough who comes here with fresh legs after lumping 57.5kg to get the job done at the Sunny Coast, finishing best in a driving go to the line. She has run well in town and measured up in the past. Good depth to this line up and gets weight relief, plus Jake Bayliss remains on, so ticks a fair few boxes.
Race 8. (16:02) CLEAR INSURANCE OPEN Handicap 1600m
Back to the mile is a little query but in terms of class, 1 New Tipperary (Bet Now: $6.50) has these covered. Quality animal for Joe Pride who comes through the Premiers Cup Prelude where he got back in an on pace dominated race, having no chance, but made up good ground late and produced the best last 200m sectional of the race. Miles back in depth, he just needs to hold that form to be winning here.
2 Testashadow (Bet Now: $8.00) is going well for Gary Portelli I think and can bounce back here. He comes through the same race as New Tipperary mentioned above where he wasn’t suited by the stop/start tempo of the race behind Wolfe. Been given a little freshen up and looked to trial up well to my eye on Monday at Canterbury, so keen to see how he goes against this lot.
3 Kubis (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Heathcoate/Anderson trained gelding that had good specking when resuming over 1400m here three weeks back and the bets at odds were landed as he sat near the speed throughout before getting the split and showing a good turn of foot to get the job done. Think he might want further already and another run under the belt, but hard to ignore the resumption.
Race 9. (16:42) TAB Handicap 1200m
Fresh legs appear the key to 3 Constant Flight (Bet Now: $3.20), so I’m in his corner here to close out the meeting. He was backed as if unbeatable when resuming over 1200m at Doomben on August 14 and he didn’t let his supporters down, nor gave them a moment of concern. Went straight to the front and that was the end of the race. He’s got the ability of a Saturday class horse. Confident he can show that here.
17 Exdream (Bet Now: $4.60) deserves a crack at Sarturday grade. Kris Lees has done a fab job with this bloke this time in, and he continued his purple patch last Friday at Ipswich with a dominant win over 1200m under a lovely steer from Maloney. Eagle Farm 1200m looks fine for him and stable is ticking along nicely at the moment. Hard to beat in a competitive race.
Back to 1200m should suit 13 All Important (Bet Now: $9.50). He ran over 1400m at the Gold Coast (Metro) two weeks ago and where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a decent enough kick in front but felt the pinch late behind Fratelino. Like him back to 1200m and his form prior does read well. Hard to beat off that. Just depends what upside is left in the tank.
