Outside Magic Millions, the biggest raceday for the Gold Coast is Hollindale Stakes Day and it comes around this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (11:50) : Brandons Bat Out Of Hell 900m:
Back Me: 1 Hidden Pearl (Bet Now: $2.50), on ratings, does look the standout here. Stakes class mare that is first up for the Barry Lockwood camp after a two run Summer prep, winning the Falvelon first up and giving the track record a nudge before being outclassed in the Magic Millions Sprint behind Target In Sight. No trials, but she flies fresh and the 900m first up looks an ideal assignment.
Big Danger: 2 Prompt Return (Bet Now: $3.20) is a quality gelding that is first up here for the Toby Edmonds, and given he is fresh on his home track in a feature race, expect him to be close to being ready to win first up. Didn’t quite measure up in three runs during the Summer, but he looked to move nicely in a recent trial here. Expecting him to go close.
Long Shot: 12 Anzus (Bet Now: $41.00) is a nippy visitor from North Queensland who comes here off the back of a very good win last Saturday over 1050m at Mackay where he showed too much speed for his rivals and kicked strongly for a determined victory. He is a horse who can take a sit, which is a big tick against some speed demons here.
Race Two (12:25) : Gold Coast Turf Club Handicap (90) 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Irish Constabulary (Bet Now: $3.10) is an absolute beauty for the Symons/Laxon yard. Won the Magic Millions Country Cup here last prep in what was a ripping campaign. Resumed in the Ascot Handicap at Doomben where he got back and worked home with real purpose to run second to Sweet Serendipity. Goes well second up and looks the way to go here.
Big Danger: 1 Londehero (Bet Now: $4.60) has been given a month freshen up since racing in the Weetwood where he got a mile back in the run, well out of his ground, but worked to the line powerfully and ran a close up fourth to Jumbo Prince/Col ‘N’ Lil. Looks to have come back in outstanding order and the speed engaged here will be strong.
Long Shot: 13 Nakanai (Bet Now: $51.00) is a local specialist who does tend to save his best for his home track here. He was unwanted in betting when racing over 1200m at Ipswich on Anzac Day but he worked home very nicely late in the piece behind Worthy Hero. Speed looks strong here, so he will get his chance to run on, and Rolls rides the horse better than anyone.
Race Three (13:00) : Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial Classic 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Taking Aim (Bet Now: $4.80) looks close to a good thing here. Very good youngster for Team Snowden that contested some good races before going to the Blue Diamond where he found the class a bit much and perhaps was a tired horse. Been given the break and looks in super order off the back of two trials.
Big Danger: 8 Don’t You Know Him (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of I Am Invincible on debut for the Tony Gollan camp. These I Am Invincibles are flying at the moment and this colt looks well above average off the back of a very sharp trial win Deagon where he bolted in and ran time. Keen to see what the market does.
Long Shot: 13 Girl In A Million (Bet Now: $26.00) was backed as if unbeatable when resuming on Toowoomba Cup Day but just forget she went around given she copped serious heat on speed and dropped out to finish near last in what was a big flop but she clearly had excuses. Much better than that, and the market support said she’d be winning.
Race Four (13:40) : 2K Thoroughbreds Gold Coast Bracelet 1800m:
Back Me: 1 Candika (Bet Now: $4.20) just picks herself here. Looked desperately unlucky three weeks back before backing up seven days later over the mile at Doomben where she started odds on and didn’t let her supporters down with a pretty comfortable win, though I will say she didn’t beat much. She is the hard fit filly with the mile run under the belt and has class.
Big Danger: 2 Invincibella (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented filly for Chris Waller who has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Comes through the James Carr at Randwick where she ran very well but was clearly no match for Raiment. Up to 1800m looks ideal, draws well and she has a stack of upside.
Long Shot: 14 Lyra (Bet Now: $101.00)comes through the race Candika won and though she was outclassed/well beaten, considering she was $101, her effort was more than sound to my eye. The step up to 1800m will suit her big time, she’s back on her home track and will get firmer footing, which will help. Doubt she will win, but she can add some value to exotics.
Race Five (14:20) : Australia’s Gold Coast Prime Ministers Cup 1400m:
Back Me: 3 Federal (Bet Now: $3.40) on top for me in a really poor edition of the Prime Ministers Cup. Resumed in the Hall Mark at Randwick where they absolutely walked in front but to his credit he stuck on well and was good to the line and through it. Dry track is the key for him and he performs well second up. If he was ever going to win another race, this is it.
Big Danger: 4 Siegfried (Bet Now: $5.50) is the pick of the local hopes. Ran three weeks back over the 1350m at Doomben where Lloyd gave him a peach of a steer just off the pace and once he got the split early in the straight, he dashed and got the verdict. Good record on his home track and I think he is ready now for the 1400m.
Long Shot: If ever a horse has reached their D-Day it is 10 Trubia (Bet Now: $21.00). He has been touted as a Stradbroke horse for 12+ months but just hasn’t delivered on the early promise. Two runs back from a break have been just fair, but I think perhaps he just isn’t happy on soft ground, which is what he has faced both runs this prep. Back on top of the ground, inside gate, ready fitness wise and likes the Gold Coast. Knockout chance at odds.
Race Six (15:00) : Garrard’s Horse & Hound Silk Stocking 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Nancy (Bet Now: $4.20) is a classy mare for Team Snowden that ran very well in three runs during the Sydney Autumn but was just plagued by wet tracks, the latest Birthday Card behind Raiment. Trial effort behind Music Magnate a couple of weeks back looked good and we know what that horse did in the Victory Stakes. Class will carry her a long way.
Big Danger: 12 Nudierudie (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented mare for the Hawkes camp that resumed over 1200m at Randwick where she was a drifter in the market but the run was inconclusive given she never really got a clear run in the straight and couldn’t build momentum. Happy to overlook that effort and give her another look here.
Long Shot: 3 Madotti (Bet Now: $10.00) is a high quality mare that is first up here for the Matty Dunn yard. Performed very well during the Summer, highlighted by a win here on Magic Millions Day when ridden a treat by Tye Angland. Trial win at Deagon was outstanding, she goes well fresh and based on that trial, she looks a different mare now. A better one.
Race Seven (15:40) : Attwood Marshall AD Hollindale Stakes 1800m:
Back Me: 1 It’s Somewhat (Bet Now: $2.60) is the class runner by a fair way so he has to go on top. Aided by the bias, but the record will say that he is a Doncaster winner, an all the way Doncaster winner, something that is only saved for top class gallopers. Brisbane has always been the target for this horse, so perhaps the Doncaster was a bonus. The one to beat.
Big Danger: Kris Lees has done a remarkable job with 3 Sense Of Occasion (Bet Now: $7.00). Got the horse to win the Villiers first up; amazing effort. Bettered by resuming with a third in the Doncaster before backing up seven days later and running third to Winx in the Queen Elizabeth. That’s the best form in Australia right now, and he showed last start that he can handle WFA.
Long Shot: 6 Maurus (Bet Now: $13.00) probably isn’t suited at WFA but he has to go in. Resumed over 1400m at Randwick and did a remarkable job to get as close as he did. He is a horse better suited at 2000m+ and was first up, but he did look sharp in a trial prior and showed dash, so John Thompson has obviously trained some speed in his legs, and that could be the winning key here against some stayers.
Race Eight (16:16) : Mayford Contracting Gold Coast Guineas 1200m:
Back Me: 3 Tessera (Bet Now: $9.00) looks the one to beat here. Looked a bit unlucky not to win when resuming over 1200m at Randwick, diving through near the inside to just miss in a photo with Gibraltar Girl. Stable love to target this race with a quality three year old and have been successful in recent times. The one for me.
Big Danger: 13 River Racer (Bet Now: $7.00) resumed in the Mick Dittman and gee if you backed her it was just a nightmare watch. Got a mile back in the run when appearing to have plenty to offer and just couldn’t get the clean run she wanted in the straight. Still looked as if she won when they hit the line but the verdict went to Tiyatrolani. That looks the best form for the locals.
Long Shot: 5 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Bet Now: $17.00) is a beauty for the Norm Stephens yard at Deagon. Resumed in the Mick Dittman where he was a surprise drifter in the market but worked home very strongly late in the piece behind Tiyatrolani. Unbeaten second up in two runs and loves racing at the Gold Coast.
