I’m really keen on 9 Lord Desanimaux (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS). I was keen on him two weeks ago in the Highway but the meeting was washed out. He instead ran last Saturday at Kembla in a 1200m race, a prep run you’d assume for this, and I loved the way he closed off from the back when third. Sharply to 1800m, but he’s come back super and is a Highway winner at this track.

10 Mirror Queen (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) is a promising mare for Paul Messara who has earned a crack at Highway grade. Hasn’t raced since July 4 at Gunnedah where she made it two wins on the bounce. Admittedly, she beat nothing, but she was dominant and the stable should always be respected when they come to town.

1 Relucent (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is sneaky flkying for Paul Shailer. He ran over the mile at Eagle Farm last Saturday and was very good from near last in the run when fourth to Deficit. That was his first run in a month and with good upside to come, plus stable finding J Mac, he’s easy to like.

4 McCormack (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) can run well here each way. He’s had three runs back from a spell and has been solid each time. First two runs for the prep came in Midway races before racing in the Forbes Cup on Sunday when far from disgraced in defeat behind a very handy mare in One Aye. Think a rise to 1800m suits and the depth here isn’t overly strong.

5 Bazooka (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) hasn’t won in a fair while but he brings very strong metro form to give this a shake. He ran last Saturday at Rosehill and was far from disgraced behind Wicklow, beaten just over three lengths. Back to Midway grade and J Mac on, he’s clearly likeable.

3 Brown Thomas (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is one I wouldn’t dismiss. He has been kept on ice since a midfield effort on the Kenso behind The Milkybar Kid, sitting back in a race dominated by the leader and eventual winner. Tick over trial behind I Am Superman was encouraging, so at this level, he can run a positive race.

8 Kitzbuhel (Bet Now: $15.00 TOP ODDS) on top in what looks an even staying contest. Massive win from him at Narrandera last start, lumping 63.5kg to win and win impressively over 2100m. He was four weeks between runs that afternoon so there is good upside to come and down to 52.5kg, I think he’ll only run well.

1 Cadre Du Noir (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) is the one with upside and timing, as well as having the Maher/Eustace polish. Was 1400m straight to 2000m several weeks ago at Randwick and loomed to be some sort of threat but condition gave way late behind stablemate and noted swimmer La Chevalee. Fitter, I think he is the pony to bet on.

5 Marakopa (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is hard fit and racing in pretty good form for Robert Quinn. He ran last Wednesday at Warwick Farm and tried his guts out on a testing track when second to Naval Warfare. How strong is that form? Not sure, but he loves racing at Randwick and should be around the mark.

13 Conqueror (Bet Now: $2.25 TOP ODDS) is a horse who I think could measure up to some better races in the coming weeks and with that in mind, I am in his corner for a first up win. He resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since an impressive debut win on the Kenso track back in February in what has turned out to be a hot form race. His two trials have been outstanding and I say he’s here to rock and roll.

1 Cacofonix (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is an improver up in trip. Former Kiwi that made his Australian debut at Rosehill three weeks back and while he was never a winning threat, I liked the way he finished his race off behind Pretty Wild. Showed good promise at 1400m in NZ, so fitter and up to that trip, he commands respect.

3 Gracilistyla (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) is a stablemate of Conqueror that resumes as well. He hasn’t raced since March 30 at Canterbury on testing ground when down the track behind Vreneli. Has a good fresh record and the trials leading in suggest he’s come back in good order, so watch the market.

Market will be interesting with 2 Equation (Bet Now: $9.50), whether he needs the run or he’s ready to go. Quality animal for Annabel Neasham that resumes, having not raced since December 11 over the mile here when close up behind Lightning Jack. His two trials leading in have looked strong to the eye and he likes getting his toe in.

5 Niffler (Bet Now: $5.50) comes here with fresh legs for Chris Waller, having not raced since June 25 over 1800m here when plain late behind Nothin’sweetaboutme. They’ve tried to stretch her out to 1600m+ but it hasn’t worked. 1300m-1400m is her sweet spot and the tick over trial was a good piece of work, so she can bounce back.

9 Daralina Belle (Bet Now: $3.80) is a few weeks between runs for Matty Smith since producing a barnstorming performance to win over 1100m at Caulfield, savaging the line from near last on the turn to win. Tick over trial was quite good and down in the weights, she commands respect.

If he does everything right, 1 Maotai (Bet Now: $3.00) is the likely winner. He has a bit on these but upstairs, he does seem to have a few screws loose. You’ll know your fate with him behind the barriers and how he gets into the gates. If everything is right with him, he is better than 78 grade. I’ll bank on him producing the goods.

2 Stoical (Bet Now: $13.00) is a 1000m specialist for Team Snowden that will be strong late. He ran in a fast run John Kirby on Grafton Cup Day and worked home well from off the speed when third to Ice In Vancouver. Likely spots them a decent start, but he’ll be charging late if they overdo it.

4 Van Giz (Bet Now: $10.00) will be suited by a strong tempo. Resumes for Bjorn Baker, having not raced since Feb 5 when good from the back here behind Joviality. She is a mare who tends to race well on the fresh side and with good speed on in front, I think she’ll get her chance to launch late.

12 Alcyone (Bet Now: $4.20) is on top for me. I thought there was a lot of arrogance about his win three weeks ago at Rosehill where he resumed over 1500m, lumped 60.5kg but made a mess of them. Them being off season horses, but he was sharp over an unsuitable trip. Tumbles in weight with good upside to come and did show in the Spring he can measure up in a race like this.

6 Lord Ardmore (Bet Now: $2.70) is a talented animal for Chris Waller that should take beating against this lot. Smart front running steer from Bowman saw him win three weeks ago at Rosehill, getting control in front and giving nothing else a look in. He was only second up there so you’d like to think there is upside to come.

13 Yiyi (Bet Now: $18.00) is suited up in trip. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumed at Rosehill three weeks back over 1400m and just looked in need of the run when down the track behind Bold Mac. Tick over trial was a solid piece of work and with good upside, his best is good enough to be dangerous.

3 Forbidden Love (Bet Now: $3.20) on top in what is an intriguing edition of the Missile. Michael Freedman trained mare that really came of age in the Autumn, winning multiple Group l races and started favourite in the Doncaster when a game fourth to Mr Brightside. Looked to close off well when winning a recent trial, she’s very good fresh and has class.

No disrespect to Team Price and connections, but in terms of mismanaging a horse and target races, 1 Count De Rupee (Bet Now: $6.50) has been horribly placed in 2022. First up in the Newmarket when down the track and likewise second up in the TJ Smith. Then went to the Brisbane Carnival when winning the Victory Stakes and I reckon below the top level is his go in life. Which is here, so I think he comes here to run well fresh and trialled well alongside Forbidden Love.

11 Wandabaa (Bet Now: $21.00) brings residual fitness from the Brisbane Winter, having last raced in the Tatts Tiara where 1400m on a firm deck at that level just found her out behind Startantes. Good fresh horse who likes Randwick, as well as getting her toe in, so she gets a good set up to run well. Knockout chance.

5 First Light (Bet Now: $7.00) looks ready to win for Chris Waller. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Caulfield before racing at Rosehill three weeks ago where they rode him with intent, sitting outside the speed, and he tried hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Caesar’s Palace. Hard fit now and perhaps with a bunny to chase, you’ll see a better effort.

6 Casino Kid (Bet Now: $13.00) has returned in really good order for Jan Bowen. Just one soft trial leading into his return several weeks ago at Randwick over 1100m and was very good in defeat against the race/track shape behind Conscript. He might want one more, but he’s very genuine and clearly has more upside.

3 Silent Agenda (Bet Now: $11.00) is on the seven day back up for Joe Pride after racing last Saturday at Rosehill where he did work from a tricky gate and just felt the pinch late behind Sur La Mer. Back up for this stable is something you have to respect and overall, this is a winnable race.

I want to be on something that will be strong late and 10 Marchioness (Bet Now: $17.00) will indeed be strong late. Former Kiwi that made her Australian debut here behind Lady Brook and while she was never a factor, she was good late and clocked good late splits. Fitter, up in trip, I think she’s a solid each way gamble in the get out.

2 Jal Lei (Bet Now: $5.50) is a key chance for John O’Shea. This filly was somewhat lucklessw fresh at Warwick Farm before going to the Kenso track where she looked all over a winner when she loomed but had to settle for a narrow second to Dalaalaat. Third up, hard fit, she’s close to D-Day.

7 Lady Brook (Bet Now: $8.50) is another prime example of Joe Pride and tried horses, the two going hand in hand. Narrow second fresh at Gosford before an impressive win here four weeks ago when on speed and finding plenty under pressure to score. She’s got upside to come and is hard to beat.

LONG SHOT: Race One Number 9 Lord Desanimaux
