A nine race card has been assembled for the Parks track at Morphettville on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:50) Fleurieu Milk Company (82) 1950m
Gee this is an ordinary race after scratchings. For the sake of a tip, 1 Reserve Street (Bet Now: $2.40) is on top. Want to be very forgiving of his run three weeks ago at Flemington when doing work on speed and tiring late behind Sikorsky. Unknown at this trip, but the small field and gate helps, plus the depth is very thin.
2 Box On Collins (Bet Now: $2.50) has plenty of upside to come for Team McEvoy. Was first up since January 2019 when racing over 1800m at Murray Bridge and thought his run was a definite pass mark from the back when third to La Belle Jude. Second up syndrome potentially on the cards, but is proven at this level and has more upside than most.
4 Roselli Sting (Bet Now: $8.00) has placed in both runs at this track/distance so with that in mind, a win wouldn’t totally shock despite his recent form being just fair. Last run at Murray Bridge behind La Belle Jude, he failed to come on and was quite disappointing, albeit the race shape wasn’t ideal. Small field, rank outsider…you know how it goes.
Race 2. (12:25) Dominant (bmn82) 1000m
The safe option looks to be the Will Clarken trained mare 4 Be My Star (Bet Now: $1.90). Loved the way she toughed it out to win the Spring Series Final two back before going to the Proud Miss where she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Humma Humma albeit was helped by the track pattern. But that form reads so well for a race like this.
5 Star Of Monsoon (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Grant Young trained veteran who has done an okay job since joining the stable. Two weeks between runs after racing at Murray Bridge where he got a suck run just off the speed and tried hard but was just outclassed late when fourth to impressive winner Symphonette in a race which had depth to it. Knockout chance against these.
6 White Kaps (Bet Now: $6.50) is on the seven day back up for Gordon Richards after racing at this track/distance last Saturday where he was off the speed and never really a winning factor but made up ground late behind Brimarvi Vehero, who has come back in super order, so respecting that form and he has reacted on the quick turnaround previously.
Race 3. (13:00) Furphy Mdn Plate 1000m
10 She’s Krupt (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Ryan Balfour trained filly who has had two career outings, starting with a 900m Murray Bridge maiden a really good second from the back despite racing quite greenly. Then stepped up to 1000m at Balaklava where the market loved Brimarvi Rooboy and it was spot on as that horse was too good while She’s Krupt was green again and the market knew because she was $2.80 out to $4.40. Needs to put everything together but if she does, can win.
I think the only way 7 Flirting (Bet Now: $3.30) can win is if there is on speed bias, which this track can produce at times. Anthony Freedman trained Godolphin filly that resumed at Echuca and IMO she had every chance on speed and on face value was disappointing. Can win this, but needs things to fall into place. Big help is the claim for Neindorf.
2 Final Chance (Bet Now: $26.00) is racing well for the Scott Whittle stable, having raced a couple of Sundays back at Strathalbyn where he took on a benchmark 3YO race and was far from disgraced in defeat when beaten two lengths by Gucci Guy. The two runs prior were very encouraging and back to maiden grade, I think he’ll take some beating.
Race 4. (13:40) Winning Edge Presentation (64) 1000m
10 Virtue (Bet Now: $4.20) is a daughter of Charm Spirit that is on debut for the Phillip Stokes stable. This girl has had a couple of jumpouts here to prepare for her debut. Each trial has seen her look sharp near the speed and when she has been clicked up, the response was instant. Has gate one to get run of the race and in a tricky race, she’ll do me.
I think back on firmer footing, 7 All Banter (Bet Now: $3.60) can be given another chance. Looked really sharp at the trials hence why she was around odds when on debut at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. Led, looked to go comfortably, but when pressure was applied, I think her wheels were somewhat spinning on the wet track. Giving her another chance back on firmer footing and on a track that suits on speed gallopers.
4 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $4.60) is another of these Macdonald/Gluyas juveniles that look promising. Beat all bar Riched on debut at Balaklava before going to Murray Bridge when ridden with a sit and loved the way she knuckled down late to wear down the hype horse All Banter. Heading in the right direction and this stable is flying with their babies.
Race 5. (14:20) Pike & Joyce (66) 1300m
I’m all over 2 Lombardo (Bet Now: $1.75) for the Price/Kent team. Not sure what happened at Werribee when a beaten $1.30 pop, but bounced back down the Flemington straight and worked home very strongly to run fourth to Roccabascerana, who would be odds on against these, so up to 1300m, with upside, he looks the pony to bet on.
1 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $3.80) will be all the rage here in terms of the market you would assume given the trainer/jock combo and the filly itself has enormous scope. I thought she had every chance last start at Sale when a beaten short priced elect, but she was a month between runs and coming back to 1100m from 1200m, so back up to 1300m I do like. Do I want to back her? If she’s silly short ie around $2.50/thereabouts, then no.
Fair rise in grade/depth for 6 Wicked Whitt (Bet Now: $26.00) but she does look to have above average ability. Was a notable drifter in a Murray Bridge maiden two weeks ago but gee she produced an impressive finale from off the pace to race away and win like a good horse. That wasn’t the strongest maiden going around, so clearly a harder assignment, but has upside to come.
Race 6. (15:00) Barossa Fine Foods (68) 1300m
2 In Heart’s Wake (Bet Now: $3.90) looks hard to beat here for the McEvoy stable. Resumed over 1400m two weeks back at Murray Bridge when off the speed and was held up for a few strides, but she had her chance in the end when third to Done By Me, but was still far from disgraced in defeat. Has improvement to come in spades and this is a winnable race.
4 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $13.00) is racing well without winning at the moment. Grant Young trained mare that ran in the Rock Harbour race from two weeks ago at Murray Bridge when ridden cold, against her norm, and I loved the way she found the line late to run fourth. Normally she’s ridden for speed, but last start they may have uncovered a new way to ride her.
Back a bit in depth and back in trip I do like for 1 Aray Of Sunshine (Bet Now: $16.00). Strung together a couple of really sharp wins to start the prep before going to 1400m at Murray Bridge a fortnight back and for mine, 1400m at that level found her out, the race won by Done By Me, plus I’m not sure she loved the wet ground. Can’t dismiss her off one poor run.
Race 7. (15:40) Caudo Vinyard (rs2ly) 1550m
6 Flop (Bet Now: $10.00) is a seven day back up specialist so I’m going her way. Was on her last Saturday and looked to get every chance off a good speed but I reckon her condition just gave out late when third to Enki. Now has that hard run under the belt and up in trip, on the back up, she really appeals in a very winnable race.
5 France’s Boy (Bet Now: $7.00) is a beauty for John Hickmott. Ran over 1800m at Murray Bridge two weeks ago when a bit tardy away but kicked through to hold the leaders back and I think that early burn just told on him late when fourth to La Belle Jude. He seems a flat track bully that needs to find the front to be any chance, so I suspect they’ll be aggressive from the gate.
The best version of 4 Pretty Glass (Bet Now: $9.50) is certainly capable of taking this out. Ran over 1400m here last Saturday in what was a fast run race and she was run off her legs down the side, but balanced up in the straight and was okay late behind Enki. Up in trip I do like for her and the tempo shouldn’t be as strong this time around.
Race 8. (16:11) Terry Howe Printing (64) 1250m
8 Royalty (Bet Now: $4.00) on top but without a great deal of confidence. The McEvoy camp trains this three year old, who resumed on a bottomless track at Ballarat where he was well backed but he couldn’t pick his feet up in the conditions. Total forgive for him. Had jumped out well leading into that, so on firmer footing, giving him another chance.
7 Just Kappy (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Brian Mueller trained gelding that gave them a spanking when resuming on the home track at Strathalbyn before going to Murray Bridge where he led and despite copping pressure, booted clear and looked home, only to be nabbed late by Rock Harbour. Lands near the front again and will take some beating.
3 Beeokay (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the quick back up for the Grant Young team after racing at Bordertown on Sunday where he again got back to near last in the run, his normal pattern, and worked home strongly to finish second to Olatunji. Yet to really prove himself since joining Grant Young, but now seems the right time to find out.
Race 9. (16:50) Tab Hcp (62) 1400m
12 Four Of A Kind (Bet Now: $5.00) can measure up here. Phillip Stokes trained filly that was far from disgraced over 1200m here two back before going to Gawler at the midweeks when back in the run before Crowther eased her to clear air and she finished strongly late to get up and beat the older horses. Like the way she’s going and 1400m should be ideal.
4 Alsvior (Bet Now: $8.50) should be suited up to 1400m for the Sue Jaensch yard. Ran over 1200m at Murray Bridge two weeks ago where not much went her way at a vital stage, getting checked before balancing up again and finding the line pretty well behind Rock Harbour. She’ll love the extra 200m and strikes a winnable race if she’s right.
2 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $19.00) drops a fair bit in grade/depth her after contesting the Autumn Final at this track/distance four weeks ago when wide and doing work near a good speed and was a total forgive IMO when down the track behind Jacobite Prince. Like the drop back and with the claim, he does get in well, plus has a good gate to use.
