8 Magic Palace (Bet Now: $4.20) looks a talented filly for Kris Lees who was unwanted in betting when debuting at Coffs Harbour over 1000m where she sat off the pace and produced some brilliant late splits to get the job done, producing some good late speed relative to the day, which is always a good sign for a juvenile on debut. Confident she can measure up against these.

Danger

Been a fan of 2 Gem Of Scotland (Bet Now: $3.60) since day one and am keen to see what she does at this level. Debuted in the Spring where she showed good natural toe to win at Ipswich. Was nominated a few times in town after that but was spelled, resumed over 900m at the Gold Coast a couple of weeks back and she bolted in. On her home track now, she does appeal.

Long Shot

There was a bit to like about the debut win of 7 Bold Eos (Bet Now: $6.00) at the Sunny Coast. This Garnett Taylor trained filly was parked near the speed all the way before Wiggins shoved her into clear and she let down strongly, putting them away for a sharp victory. Did she beat much? Probably not, but once again draws soft and you’d like to think there’s improvement.

Race 2. (14:07) AG Rigging Handicap (75) 1300m

Steve Tregea had a couple of runners nominated for the race but goes with the sole rep in 7 Angel Dane (Bet Now: $9.50). Was unwanted in betting when resuming on the bog here last Wednesday but despite that, she absolutely bolted in and did a really good job given she was first up with 59kg on a testing track. Gets weight relief and a soft draw with Larry Cassidy steering.

Danger

The class/quality is there when it comes to 1 Crusher (Bet Now: $2.90). Just depends on her running a strong 1300m. Has won up to 1200m which helps her to an extent here. Ran on the bog here last Wednesday where she bolted in, with her class coming to the fore at the end. Likely leads the field from the good draw and will look the winner for a long way. last 50-100m probably the test.

Long Shot

Tricky race for the females but think one to definitely include here is the Tony Gollan trained 2 Splitter (Bet Now: $5.50). Has had two runs back from a spell, winning first up at the Gold Coast midweeks before going to Eagle Farm where she was near the speed and battled away well behind a good one in Manaya. That form does read quite well for this and should take some beating.

Race 3. (14:47) Gemlife Handicap (75) 1300m

Now he’s got another win on the board, confident that former Godolphin galloper 4 Beacon (Bet Now: $3.70) can go on with it for Toby Edmonds. Placed in two runs for the new stable before racing here last Wednesday on a bog where he probably wasn’t 100% happy on the surface but class came to the fore and he was much too good. With that win under the belt, hopefully he can repeat the dose, and will be better suited on firmer footing.

Danger

13 Want To Bolt (Bet Now: $4.50) is facing his toughest test to date, but gee he’s racing well. He has won four on the bounce, with three of those wins coming here on the home track. Latest win was last Wednesday over 1200m where he led all the way and absolutely bolted in. Beat nothing, but the manner in which he did it was impressive and always have to respect the stable on the home track, especially on the big day.

Long Shot

2 Hang (Bet Now: $21.00) is a very interesting runner. Mick Nolan trains this quality animal, who hasn’t raced since the early part of the Summer where he ran okay but for the most part was a touch disappointing. Two time winner at the distance range, good fresh record, loves racing on the home track and I suspect first up on the big day on the home track, I’m suspecting he’ll be forward in condition.

Race 4. (15:27) Barrier Reef Pools Handicap 1200m

Back Me

He does a few things wrong and has become costly for punters recently, but the best version of 13 Burning Crown (Bet Now: $10.00) would see him prove far too good for this lot. Just did a bit too much work in the run first up in a Highway at Rosehill before going to Tamworth where he just pulled hard and had nothing left for the finale. Good speed here, hopefully can get cover and prove too good.

Danger

17 Usmanov (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Toby Edmonds trained three year old trialled up really well prior to resuming at Eagle Farm where not much went right for him when back in an on pace affair but was good late without much luck when fifth to Rock Beat. Should get run of the race stuff from an ideal and with the run under the belt, plus the claim, he’s hard to beat.

Long Shot

I’ll include 16 Veranes (Bet Now: $8.00) but even with borrowed money I’d struggle to back her to win. Thought Maloney gave the filly every possible last start at the Doomben midweeks but was pipped near the peg by Lady Bing, who is no camel, but Veranes just had every chance to put the field away but didn’t. Lloyd booked a positive and gets back to her own age.

Race 5. (16:07) Toowoomba Guineas 1625m

On her home track and up to the mile, I think 5 Barefoot (Bet Now: $2.70) is the way to go. Tony Sears trains this filly, who has been up a fair while but continues to race well. Come through the 3YO Jewel at Eagle Farm where she got back and worked home okay without really threatening behind Mishani Hustler. Now up to an ideal trip, she does look extremely hard to beat.

Danger

13 Nicholas (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Camelot colt for Tony Gollan who looks to be heading in the right direction. Resumed with a sharp win at the Sunny Coast to break the maiden tag before racing there again where she beat all bar Starkers in a close go to the line. On breeding, the mile should be fine for him and I think he will be much better suited if he’s ridden with cover.

Long Shot

6 Rosendahl (Bet Now: $41.00) Lad is trained on the track by Matt Kropp who could run an improved race. Comes through the Too Hot To Hold race at Doomben on March 20 where she was pretty disappointing I thought given she had the decent run behind the speed and presented to threaten but didn’t finish off. Home track advantage is a big tick for her and can bounce back with luck in running.

Race 6. (16:47) K&R Plumbing Supplies Handicap (80) 1625m

She’s hard to trust and follow given she usually does find one or two better, but 12 Francisca (Bet Now: $2.80) is knocking on the door big time and want to give her one more chance. Ran over 1500m at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago where she got a mile out of her ground but finished off with real purpose late to run a close up third to Benfica Princess. Up to the mile looks ideal and a good speed in front will suit.

Danger

10 Ponytales (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back here for sure. Tony Gollan trains this mare, who had finished runner up on a couple of occasions before going to the Benfica Princess race at Eagle farm where she lost a plate in the run, got a check or two in the straight, so I think she was a forgive run. Should just about be hard fit now, fifth up from a break, and can definitely win this at her best.

Long Shot

It’s a bludger of a race when you’re considering 1 Veladero (Bet Now: $7.00). He ran out of chances for me early on in the prep when given sweet steers by Fradd but still couldn’t get the job done. His last couple of runs have been okay without a great deal of luck. Hasn’t won in a long time, but in the right stable from a soft draw and any hint of his best would see him beat these.

Race 7. (17:23) Toowoomba Cup 2000m

Back Me

It’s hard seeing anything but a win for the Ben Currie trained 4 Mishani Vaidra (Bet Now: $4.20). She has been outstanding in both runs back from a spell. The first up win at Eagle Farm was one of the wins of the day before going to the Gold Coast Stakes where she was 1350m-1800m on a bog track second up yet finished best and was much too good. I’d like to think there’s improvement to come, and if that’s the case, she looks the winner.

Danger

7 Xebec (Bet Now: $10.00) is a chance of turning the tables but will need luck to do so. Ran sixth to Mishani Vaidra at the Gold Coast and for mine, I thought he was really poorly ridden by Larry Cassidy. Had the chance to go forward in a slowly run contest, but instead stayed wide throughout. Run was better than what the form guide says, so giving him another look here.

Long Shot

14 Skytrek (Bet Now: $61.00) is a son of Not A Single Doubt for the Barry Lockwood stable who could be a knockout chance at odds. Ran over 1800m at Eagle Farm last time out where he got a mile out of his ground but passed a few late and late splits were decent relative to the race. He’ll definitely be strong at the end of this…just depends how much start he gives away.

Race 8. (18:05) Weetwood Handicap 1200m

Back Me

I’ve underestimated 8 Mishani Hustler (Bet Now: $3.20) at his past two but certainly won’t be doing that here. Gun ride in from Taylor Marshall got him home two back before contesting the 3YO Jewel at Eagle Farm where he had to do a fair bit of chasing and despite taking the entire straight, he got there and was excellent. He’s thriving on racing and doesn’t look to be going backwards condition wise.

Danger

6 Mr Marbellouz (Bet Now: $4.60) will look the winner at some stage I’m sure. Just depends how many petrol tickets he has to burn early. He was considered a good thing by most last time out in the Goldmarket at the Gold Coast but just copped way too much pressure in front and had nothing left for the finale. Back on his home track, surely they won’t go as hard this time around, and he can bounce back.

Long Shot

2 Sovereign Nation (Bet Now: $15.00) could be a knockout chance at silly odds. This six year old, who is a Group l performer, had one run for Matty Dunn at the Sunny Coast on Australia Day when beaten narrowly by Balboa Rocks. Been given a good break and thought his recent trial was more than encouraging. If he gets luck from the draw, he’s certainly in the mix.

Race 9. (18:40) Toowoomba Plastics Plate (Class 6) 1100m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

I Like 4 Capital Connection (Bet Now: $2.60) in the get out stakes. Tony Gollan trains this five year old, who is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm when given a 12/10 steer from Larry Cassidy and just getting there. I reckon 1200m sees him right out so fresh and back to 1100m with Lloyd back on board from a good draw, there is plenty to like about him.

Danger

2 Snitch (Bet Now: $7.00) a definite threat in a ripping conclusion to the day. He was well specked when resuming over 1000m at Eagle Farm and for mine he just got run off his legs behind Straturbo but his last 200m was quite encouraging. Looks as if the 1200m will be perfect and wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Weetwood. Back to this level from the good draw, certainly appeals.

Long Shot

8 Natch (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Tony Gollan trained Thorn Park gelding who resumes. The three runs in the Summer were a complete mystery because he had such a good Winter prep, where it looked as if he’d carry on with it, but he was really disappointing. Trialled well last week at Doomben, can sprint well fresh…can win at his best, but just prefer to watch him at this stage.
