A bumper nine race card has been assembled for Morphettville on Tuesday. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1800m-1200m; Out twelve metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:16) UBET Maiden Plate 1050m

Back Me

If 2 Despacito (Bet Now: $6.00) turns up at her best, she’ll win. I thought that in both career runs for her when she ran last year but didn’t live up to the hype and promise. Been given a long spell but has looked very good in a couple of trials, the latest resulting in a second recently on the Parks track. She’s ready to go. Just needs to put it together.

Danger

14 War Mistress (Bet Now: $4.00) is a well bred daughter of Epaulette on debut for Phillip Stokes. This filly has had two trials in readiness, with a few months gap in between. Just the one trial this prep, which came at Oakbank and she looked to move quite well I thought. Tricky draw for her first start, but have to respect the stable.

Long Shot

1 Ballybane (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Nicconi filly on debut for the Hayes/Dabernig team. She trialled last week at Benalla and to my eye looked to go quite well when running second to stablemate and the above average Numoor. Bit of depth to this maiden, but she looks a good type and I’d be surprised if she didn’t measure up.

Race 2. (12:51) James Boags Maiden Plate 1050m

Back Me

Just going the way of 5 Euroglider (Bet Now: $4.20). Michael Hickmott trains this gelding, who resumed at this track/distance a tick over two weeks ago and he seemed to have his chance when a close up third to Gotta Be Gold, but keep in mind he was first up, perhaps out of tickets late, and Jamie Kah did drop a rein. Shayne Cahill takes over and he can certainly lift one home.

Danger

What happened to 6 Logan River (Bet Now: $2.60) last start? He resumed over 1200m here a tick over three weeks back where he was hard in the market and after getting a decent run out the back with cover, he was very plain in the straight. Blinkers Off/Winkers On, and Jamie Kah on can help…do I want to charge in? Rather see him do it first.

Long Shot

3 Equimoore (Bet Now: $41.00) had trialled up well prior to resuming in the Gotta Be Gold race mentioned back and while he had his chance, he was only beaten just over two lengths in a decent enough resumption. The claim for Georgina Cartwright certainly helps and I think he’s one to include in wider multiples.

Race 3. (13:26) Burnside Village Maiden Plate 1600m

Back Me

Looks a good race for 11 Havana Heat (Bet Now: $2.45). Was keen on her chances when she resumed over 1200m here a tick over two weeks back where I thought in the end she had her chance but was solid enough when a close up second to Fighting Dragon. Quickly up to the mile is a query, but blinkers on tells me there is intent.

Danger

6 Perfect Award (Bet Now: $5.00) is a former Busuttin/Young trained gelding having his first start for Will Clarken. Comes out of a hot maiden first up at Benalla won by Mirette before going to Moe where he was ordinary behind Chica Mala and was then sent to SA. Clarken does a great job with these tried horses, so he’s a big watch.

Long Shot

3 John The Rodent (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Barbados for Shane Oxlade who attempted to lead all the way in a 1400m maiden on Murray Bridge Cup Day and to his credit he gave a really good kick but just found the class of Quaffany a bit much. Should get a lovely run from the inside draw, will be on speed and out of trouble.

Race 4. (14:10) Schweppes Maiden Plate 1200m

Back Me

12 She’s Never Late (Bet Now: $3.10) clearly on top for me. Debuted at Balaklava back in May when hard in the market but pulled up with issues behind a good one in Be My Star. Spelled and resumed at Strathalbyn where she was one of the runs of the day I thought behind Horeyat Dubai after getting a mile back. Winkers are on, so hopefully she can sit closer. If so, clearly the one to beat.

Danger

14 Tycoon Tily (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained filly who was well supported when racing in an Echuca maiden last time over 1100m and in a five horse field she had no luck in the straight and I think should have won when a luckless third. Drawn out now, so clear air this time and 1200m no issue.

Long Shot

There is plenty to like about the way 8 Yankee Lou (Bet Now: $4.40) is finishing his races off. Problem is he has shown little to no gate speed in both career outings but has clocked great late splits. Finally up to a seemingly more suitable trip, the blinkers are on, so there looks to be intent. Want a market push first.

Race 5. (15:30) Hit107 Handicap (Class One) 1050m

Back Me

I think this race evolves around the fitness levels of 9 Be My Star.Β (Bet Now: $1.85). If she’s right, I think she’s got the brilliance to beat these. Tony McEvoy trains this Qatar Bloodstock filly, who debuted in May at Balaklava and was most impressive before failing in the National behind a good one in Marcel From Madrid. Trials have been good…just want to see her hard in the market.

Danger

7 Duchess Grace (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Lloyd Kennewell trained mare who is a tick over a week between runs since resuming on the Parks track where the bias was clearly suited to those on speed/rail so I thought she did a good job from the back behind He Is Golden. On a more fair track now, she should prove hard to beat.

Long Shot

8 Gougers (Bet Now: $7.00) is over three weeks between runs since racing over this track/distance where he started bolters odds but despite that he closed off strongly to run second to the above average galloper Experimentation. Can sit closer from gate and the claim for Cartwright appears to be a big tick for this gelding.

Race 6. (16:16) AAMI Handicap (60) 1800m

Back Me

2 Single Handed (Bet Now: $5.50) can get the job done here. He was three weeks between runs when racing in a 1400m maiden at Echuca and despite taking an eternity to wind up, he surged late under Meech to get the win, albeit narrowly. Think he’ll eat up the 1800m here and Raquel Clark is the form rider in Adelaide.

Danger

3 Chapal (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Tony McEvoy trained gelding who resumed over the mile here a tick over two weeks back and on face value he was most disappointing behind Double The Magic, but he had trialled well prior to that, so I’m happy to give him another chance with upside and the rise to 1800m.

Long Shot

12 Ballast (Bet Now: $19.00) was pretty poor in the Double The Magic race mentioned above, so he backed up on Gawler Cup Day last Friday and was very good in defeat behind Brother Darkness. Should lead here from the inside gate and give a stack of cheek. Good record at 1800m too so a knockout chance at odds.

Race 7. (16:56) Pike & Joyce Wines Handicap (64) 1100m

Back Me

Think this is a race in two but just want to side with 12 Magna Bella (Bet Now: $3.60). Will Clarken trains this filly, who debuted at Gawler on September 26 where she was heavily backed and under a lovely steer from Jamie Kah, she proved far too good. Three winners from that maiden already and the recent tick over trial was very good. If she’s right, it’s probably a one horse race.

Danger

11 Double Denman (Bet Now: $7.00) gets the blinkers on and hopefully that can sharpen him up. He was pretty poor I thought last time over 1200m at Gawler but in his defence, I think he might have done a tad too much work on speed and folded late. Blinkers are back on and back to 1100m, he can be dangerous.

Long Shot

Huge watch on 8 Kiss Bang Love (Bet Now: $5.50), a former WA mare making her SA debut for Will Clarken. This girl showed good promise early on in her career, winning the Gimcrack at Ascot as a two year old. Form had tapered off subsequent and finds herself with Clarken. No trials, but again, watch the market and see what it does.

Race 8. (17:32) AAMI Skybeau Stayers Series Final (75) 2045m

Back Me

6 Sweet Mischief (Bet Now: $4.60) for me in a tough race. Tony McEvoy trains this mare, who is under a month between runs since racing over 1800m here where I thought an absolute peach from Parnham got her home, diving through late and savaging the line late to get the job done. Tricky draw, but looks the one.

Danger

7 The Gatting Ball (Bet Now: $6.50) has been up a fair while for Darren Weir but gee he’s racing well. Sat on speed last start on Moe Cup Day and gave a really good account of himself from the front but was pipped near the peg now by Beach God, who has run well in town before. Wet track no issue and well in at the weights.

Long Shot

11 Ambishop (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Gary Searle trained mare who seems to be racing in near career best form at the moment. Impressive win at Gawler three before a run in town where she was far from disgraced behind Wasabi Bob. She then ran a narrow fourth to Olympic Academy on Gawler Cup Day, so fitness no issue and could be the one at silly odds.

Race 9. (18:08) White Marquee Handicap (60) 1200m

Back Me

2 Bubblerap (Bet Now: $3.30) on top in the get out. Will Clarken trains this gelding, who was heavily backed when debut on Gawler Cup Day and under a lovely steer from Todd Pannell, he proved far too good. Time was nothing flash but he ran to the line and through it like a horse wanting 1200m and have to respect the stable.

Danger

9 Kodakhan (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Dennis O’Leary trained gelding who can certainly win this via the soft draw. Ran at Oakbank last time and gave a good kick on speed but was bloused late by Exacting, who had the suck run and last say. Should get run of the race stuff from the inside gate and is certainly up to beating these.

Long Shot

16 Regal Eagle (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Denman for David Jolly who ran over 1100m at Oakbank last start and you could make a case to forget the run. I don’t think he handled the track at all but was still game in defeat when a narrow fourth. Much better suited here and I like the booking of Cory Parish. He can certainly lift one.
