Metro racing in WA this Saturday heads to Pinjarra for a strong nine race card for Mandurah Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (15:08) Essential Refrigeration Maiden 1000m

Back Me

Thin race but siding with 2 Deep Cover (Bet Now: $4.40). Jason Pateman trains this galloper. Both runs this prep have come at this track/distance, resuming with a second before running a disappointing eighth, with perhaps the tongue tie not suiting. It’s off and the blinkers are on, so I am expecting a sharp bounce back.

4 Groovershaker (Bet Now: $3.00) had trialled up brilliantly on a couple of occasions prior to resuming over the 900m at Narrogin where he was run off his legs early but savaged the line when he balanced up, eventually running second to Dixie Win. Draws the right part of the track and should improve now he has the run under the belt.

Long Shot

6 Gangster Of Love (Bet Now: $34.00) is a lightly raced son of O’Reilly resuming for Brett Pope. He has done bugger all on race day in four career outings, but is clearly showing something because why would they persist. The trials indicate he has a decent engine under the hood. Just needs to show it off when it matters, on race day.

Race 2. (15:46) Professionals Pinjara Plate 1600m

Back Me

5 Icecrusher (Bet Now: $2.90) is a Frost Giant filly for the Dan Morton team who comes here off the back of a strong win over 1300m at Ascot last Saturday where she had the suck run behind and despite not really dashing, she kept coming and coming to eventually wear them down. Up to the mile looks ideal and she should be able to get cover from the draw.

3 Retosona (Bet Now: $5.50) is a well bred filly by Wanted who is going really well at the moment, but most were surprised her all the way over 1500m at Ascot a fortnight back, including the trainer David Harrison post race. Still, it was a gutsy performance and full credit to her. Looks to get a similar run again. Just a query at a strong mile.

Long Shot

6 Black Attack (Bet Now: $19.00) is a one start maiden but she might end up being the best horse to come from this race. She debuted in a 1400m maiden at Bunbury where she did plenty wrong in the straight but she was a real eye catcher for me behind Merivale Miss. The rise to the mile second up looks ideal and she should be able to sit closer in the run from the draw.

Race 3. (16:26) Hartfield Golf Club Plate 1000m

Back Me

8 Saturia (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Paul Jordan trained filly who has abundance of pace so drawing wide for her is perfect. She is three weeks between runs since failing at Ascot behind Illustrious Tycoon, who franked the form on Monday, while the runner up and stable Cognac also won next start. She’ll be in it for a long way. Last 50m will be the test.

1 Salubrious (Bet Now: $3.90) is the class runner of the field and drops a fair bit in depth for this contest. He hasn’t raced since the WA Guineas when attempting to lead all the way and just finding the class a bit rich behind star filly Perfect Jewel. Back to 1000m and down the straight are queries, but he has class/quality.

Long Shot

5 Fields Of Thunder (Bet Now: $13.00) was completely unwanted in betting when debuting at this track/distance but this Michael Lane trained there year old showed good speed to lead near the outside rail. Was there to be beaten with around 150m to but he went into another gear and fended them off. Looks a really good type and should take some beating.

Race 4. (17:06) Mandurah Lock & Key Graduation Handicap (1MW) 1200m

Back Me

1 Pinball Wizard (Bet Now: $3.20) is a son of Trade Fair who is absolutely flying at the moment for Team Williams. Strung together a couple of sharp wins before racing over 1400m at Ascot where he just did overdid it in front and was gassed when it mattered when fourth to Ragazzo D’Oro. Like him back to 1200m, the claim for Brown helps and with a more genuine tempo, he won’t be as keen.

9 Klondike Kenny (Bet Now: $4.20) is absolutely flying at the moment for the Brett Pope team. Landed some good bets at odds when winning two back over 1200m at Ascot before racing at this track/distance where he was again well supported and he didn’t let them down with a dominant win from off the pace. He’ll look the winner at some stage.

Long Shot

11 Sunset Pete (Bet Now: $35.00) is a talented gelding for Darren Mcauliffe who was an alarming drifter in betting when resuming at Albany and the market got it spot on. He had the beaut sit behind but couldn’t finish it off and plugged away for fifth. Has a really good record at Pinjarra and should improve now he has had the run under the belt.

Race 5. (17:45) Western Meat Packers Graduation Handicap (1MW) 1200m

Back Me

Taking a chance on 5 Hit Tune (Bet Now: $8.00). Rogano gelding who resumes for Fred Kersley. This bloke hasn’t raced since May 2016 when winning a two year old race at Belmont. All that time and no subsequent winners. Doesn’t scream out with confidence, nor has his two trials, but I’ll bank on the genius of Fred Kersley to get the best out of him.

3 Harry Thomas (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Scandal Keeper for the Ross Price stable that is racing well. He resumed over 1200m at Bunbury where he had the box seat sit and got out in time to win but just lacked the killer sprint fresh when second to Greco. Should be stronger at the end now he has the run under the belt.

Long Shot

1 Niccatrice (Bet Now: $13.00) won the Provincial Series Final at Ascot during The Masters two back before being given a little freshen up. He ran at Albany on Boxing Day and just looked in need of the run behind Long Knife. Very good second up record and gets in very well at the weights after the claim for Maddison Brown.

Race 6. (18:18) Darling View Thoroughbreds Graduation Handicap (1MW) 2000m

Back Me

8 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $12.00) for me here. He resumed over 1400m at Ascot and was very one paced in the straight behind Red Army but his last 50-75m did suggest that he’d eat up a trip next time, which is what he gets here. So soon is a query, 1400m-2000m from first to second up. But he does have a touch of quality about him.

1 No Say In It (Bet Now: $4.40) is a son of Smart Missile for the Lindsey Smith stable that is racing in good form. He ran over 1500m at Ascot a couple of Wednesdays back where he got a mile off them in the run but gee he let down with a powerful finishing burst to overhaul them and get the win. Failed once previously at 2100m, but he’s a different horse now.

Long Shot

10 Dealing (Bet Now: $13.00) scored a really strong win two back over the 1700m at Bunbury before racing at this track/distance where he was a drifter in betting and despite failing, he wasn’t too bad in defeat behind Sophie’s Revenge. Should be better off he has now had the hard 2000m run under the belt, down in the weights and has upside.

Race 7. (18:53) Mandurah Cup (78+) 1409m

Back Me

4 Fontainebleau (Bet Now: $4.20) for me. On the quick back up for the Lindsey Smith stable after contesting the La Trice on Monday where she sat up outside stablemate I’m Feeling Lucky and tried hard but that mare had it good in front and kicked hard. Interesting to see her back in trip, but she is tough and is the clear class factor.

3 Wrinkly (Bet Now: $4.20) is another on the quick back up from the Ascot meeting on Monday. This bloke attempted to lead all the way over the mile but just went a bit keen in front and that left him without petrol tickets the final 150m when third to Woodsville. Looks the leader and I like him back to 1400m.

Long Shot

6 Senso (Bet Now: $9.00) is a horse in ripping form at the moment for the Paul Jordan team. Last raced on December 20 at Ascot over 1800m where he came with a powerful finishing burst from the back to overhaul them and win impressively, beating a field which had more overall depth compared to what he faces here. Ticks a lot of boxes.

Race 8. (19:30) Silver Sands Resort Handicap (66+) 1600m

Back Me

12 Scooner (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Stephen Miller trained gelding who has the most ability of any of these engaged…he just has a few loose screws upstairs. Resumed over the mile at Ascot and you had to like the way he closed off his race from the back when fourth to Missile Launch. Gets a 4kg weight swing on that horse here and has more upside.

6 Blackline (Bet Now: $4.20) was a tough on speed winner first up over 1300m here before going to the 1500m at Ascot where he never really looked like the winner but his effort was sound in defeat behind Ragazzo D’Oro. Third up now, so he should be near peak fitness and he appears to map well via a cart over.

Long Shot

9 Lord Ludlow (Bet Now: $17.00) ran second in the race won by Missile Launch mentioned above. He sat near the speed most of the way and looked to travel well under Jason Brown but just couldn’t quite finish it off. Draws to get a sweet trip off the pace here and I’m sure he’ll threaten to win at one stage. Just depends if he wants to go on with it.

Race 9. (19:30) Magic Millions Ladies Day Feb 10 Be There Handicap (72+) 1000m

Back Me

9 Sweet Ora (Bet Now: $5.00) for me in the get out. Adam Durrant traisnt his mare, who resumed over the 1000m at Ascot where she got held up badly in the first half of the straight but worked home strongly late behind Gee Boss. Think there is more upside with this girl and with clear air, I think she can give this a shake.

4 Gee Boss (Bet Now: $2.30) is a Michael Lane trained gelding who is three weeks between runs since running along over 1000m at Ascot where he ran along in front at a pretty decent clip and he kept up the strong gallop for a dominant win, albeit aided by Sweet Ora getting held up. Draws the right part of the track and is so well in at the weights.

Long Shot

12 Universal Moon (Bet Now: $17.00) is on he quick back up for the Harrison team after racing in the Summer Scorcher on Monday at Ascot where she was outclassed behind Battle Hero. Ran well in a similar race to this last year. Not sure how well she is going this time around but she is an absolute bomb down the straight.
