The Gold Coast is where Queensland metro racing takes place this Saturday with a strong nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:27) Aquisfarm.com Plate (Class 3) 900m
6 Invincible Heart (Bet Now: $2.80) for me in the opener. Chris Meagher trains this galloper, who resumed at this track/distance a fortnight back where she had a lovely run off the pace and loomed large to win but just found Raido on the day who got the bob. Lone wet track run, she bolted up down the straight on Oaks Day. Reads well for this.
11 Crusher (Bet Now: $2.60) is a daughter of Snitzel for Ben Currie who was heavily backed when resuming over the 900m here a fortnight back but she let the punters down when only managing a sixth to Raido. Just looked to do a bit too much work on speed to my eye and folded late. Should be stronger now with the run under the belt.
1 Mini Meld (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented local gelding that resumes for the Mel Eggleston team. He is lightly raced, with just five career outings despite being six year of years. He has a real liking for this track/distance and is unbeaten in two previous fresh attempts. Just needs to overcome the nasty gate.
Race 2. (14:02) Follow @Aquisfarm On Twitter Handicap 1100m
2 Sunlight (Bet Now: $1.55) is a high quality filly for the Tony McEvoy team who resumed here a fortnight back and she smashed the clock and spanked them in winning by an absolute space over the 900m. Heading towards the Magic Millions and keep in mind Houtzen won this race last year en route to winning the Magic Millions.
4 Paquirri (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Gary Moore trained youngster who needs to win this to get into the Magic Millions field. He ran here a fortnight back and did an enormous job to get as close as he did given he did a stack of work in the run yet still had the front with around 75m to go but was overhauled late by Katy’s Daughter. Looks very talented and will make this a race for sure.
6 Dram of Delago (Bet Now: $27.00) is a Matty Dunn trained youngster who debuted behind Sunlight in the race mentioned above and he ran well, sitting on speed most of the way, but was clearly no match for the Tony McEvoy filly. Would need to improve to turn the tables, but he should naturally improve and is one for exotics.
Race 3. (14:37) Spill The Beans 1st Weanlings At The Sales In 2018 Handicap 1800m
Going with 1 All Too Huiying (Bet Now: $3.40). Was against him here a fortnight back and sided with Boom Boom Epic, with the latter eventually winning, but I thought the Gary Moore trained three year old was enormous given it was his first run since Oaks Day at Flemington. He has the more upside and that run should take the edge off him.
3 Boom Boom Epic (Bet Now: $3.10) is an obvious threat. Talented filly for Toby Edmonds who was heavily backed in the 1800m race here two weeks ago and the punters got it right as she had the cold sit on a genuine tempo and had last say to overhaul All Too Huiyung. Confident he turns the tables on her, but she will go close all the same.
Scared stiff of 8 Protest (Bet Now: $17.00). She looks a lovely filly for Aquis Farm and the Guy stable who broke through last start over the 1800m at the Sunshine Coast and was dominant despite wandering about in front. She has the most upside of any runner here, she’s trained on the track and a win wouldn’t shock me at all.
Race 4. (15:12) Aquis Farm Racehorse Retirement Program Handicap (80) 2200m
3 The Rumour File (Bet Now: $3.80) does look the one. Chris Waller trains this stayer, who is five weeks between runs since racing over 2200m at Doomben when a gutsy second to stablemate My Giuliano. Placed in his lone run at the track, he does look the best horse in the race and he has fresh legs. Happy to side with him.
11 First Stimulus (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Floral Pegasus gelding who is racing really well at the moment. He comes through the Kirini race here a fortnight back where he had specking at odds and worked home strongly late when third to the Chris Waller trained stayer. Remains down in the weights and I think back to 1800m is no issue.
6 Backbench Blues (Bet Now: $10.00) is a former Hong Kong galloper who has had a few runs in Australia now for the Jeffrey Chan yard. Last raced over 1800m at the Sunny Coast and stuck to the task well in defeat I thought behind the talented stayer Toni May. Crying out for more ground and he finally gets it here so keen to see what he does.
Race 5. (15:52) Follow @Aquisfarm on Facebook Handicap 1200m
3 Colosimo (Bet Now: $4.40) is a smart filly for the Chris Waller team who is three weeks between runs since contesting the Gold Edition at Doomben where she did a really good job to close off when fourth to Whypeeo. That form does read very well for this assignment, trained on the track and loves racing here.
5 Dream Kisses (Bet Now: $10.00) is a consistent filly for the Steve O’Dea camp who comes through a 1200m midweek race at Ipswich where she faced three rivals, one of which was the in form Nilette, who is an absolute swimmer and was too good on the day. No disgrace running second to that horse. Firmer footing and bigger track are two ticks.
8 Zukaz (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained gelding who comes here off the back of a solid run at the Doomben midweeks on December 20 where he closed of okay to run fourth to the above average Cruze. Another that likes racing at the Gold Coast and I think back to 1200m is a big plus for this son of I Am Invincible.
Race 6. (16:32) Subscribe To Aquis Farm On Youtube.com (Class 6) 1400m
12 Doubt Defying (Bet Now: $7.00) for me. Steve O’Dea trains this gelding, who resumed with a barnstorming win over 1200m before racing at the 1350m where the luck didn’t go his way and he should have finished closer behind I’m A Rippa. Bigger surroundings of the Gold Coast will really suit and he’ll eat up the 1400m.
15 Plucky Girl (Bet Now: $6.00) is a mare who was near seven weeks between runs when racing over this track/distance a fortnight back where Lloyd gave her a peach and for the most part she looked home but Ruthless Agent just had the fitness edge and got her late. She’ll improve off that I’m sure and can handle a track with some give.
3 Delightful Feeling (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding who is four weeks between runs since racing over the 1350m at Doomben and finishing fifth behind Privlaka, beaten 2.4L. Does tend to race best on the fresh side and I thought his trial here last week was very encouraging. He’s the knockout chance.
Race 7. (17:12) Aquisrace2.com Syndication Handicap (90) 1800m
8 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for the Scott Morrisey team. He continues to race at a pretty decent level despite being forever in work it would seem. He ran at this track/distance a fortnight back where he was heavily backed and while the plunge didn’t come off, I thought he was enormous in defeat after doing a stack of work in the run. Give him a more economical trip here and he’ll take some beating.
6 Slydini (Bet Now: $8.00) is three weeks between runs for the Guy camp since racing over the mile at Doomben where he attempted to lead all the way under Ron Stewart and he did give a really good kick but Aqua Vite just outgunned him on the peg. Good record on his home track, hard fit and in form.
4 Morendi (Bet Now: $14.00) could be the big improver here. He comes through a 2000m open handicap at Doomben three weeks ago where he got a mile back on a day where those near the lead/rail were advantaged. He made late ground but was never in the hunt. Has run well here previously and this is a drop in depth.
Race 8. (17:50) Aquis Farm Pre Training & Agistment Handicap 1200m
5 Zumbelina (Bet Now: $5.00) on top but not much confidence in what looks a really trick open handicap. This mare hasn’t raced for four weeks since the Just Now at Doomben where she got back and didn’t really come on behind Sylpheed. Trained on the track and the bigger surroundings will help, plus she has class on her side.
7 Banda Spice (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained mare who isn’t the most reliable conveyance going around in terms of putting wins on the board but she does try hard. That was the case last time out on her home track at the Sunny Coast but she had to settle for a narrow second to stablemate Spur Le Joeur. Won her lone start here and being third up, she should be near peak fitness.
Will 6 Fiery Heights (Bet Now: $7.00) race with the jockey this time? He went without Jeff Lloyd here a fortnight back, but was deemed to have had an unfair start and was a late scratching. Form prior to that was solid and there was market support that day to suggest he’d run well, because he loves racing on his home track.
Race 9. (18:26) Follow @Aquisfarm On Instagram Handicap (0MW) 1200m
16 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Toby Edmonds trained four year old who on talent probably has this field covered but he is just a bit inconsistent at times. Just got into a bit of a bumping duel last start at Doomben and that took the stuffing out of him behind Graceville. I like the rise to 1200m and he is on his home track.
12 Nilette (Bet Now: $2.50) is another who won’t mind a bit of give in the track. She got that last time out at the Ipswich midweeks and bolted up in leading all the way, albeit beating just three rivals. Should get a lovely run from the gate here, has run well here before, hard fit, in form and down in the weights.
6 Live Fast (Bet Now: $16.00) a clear threat. Tony Sears trains this galloper who was mostly thereabouts and tried hard right throughout his Winter/Spring prep. Good overall stats fresh and at the track, but the big tick for me is 1200m fresh considering previous fresh runs have been between 950m and 1100m, so 1200m tells me is he forward enough to run well.
