A nine race program has been assembled for the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out five metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:51) Jimmy's Bar & Grill (bm64) 1250m
Bit unknown with the Price/Kent pair, whether they are running here, so for now, I’m treating them as scratchings. 2 Strike Award (Bet Now: $2.90) does look the most likely at 1250m, if his debut last Saturday is any guide. He kept chasing and finding under pressure, just missing out on the win in a very close photo finish. He looks suited up in trip and overall, the depth here isn’t strong I don’t think.
1 Runamigo (Bet Now: $3.60) would have been on top if this was 1000m. Just unsure at 1250m, but he should find the front and that is certainly no disadvantage on this track. Was asked to do too much chasing last Saturday here and tired late when third. If he finds the front and gets control, he’ll take catching.
6 Somewatt Fabulous (Bet Now: $14.00) is the interesting runner. Astern filly for Team Jolly that is on debut. Jumped out here last week and led throughout to win the jumpout in pretty good style I thought, going about her business nicely under no real pressure. Keen to see how she goes.
Race 2. (12:26) Leconfield (bm62) 1000m
2 Great Diviner (Bet Now: $7.00) is much better suited back to his own age. He resumed against the older horses at Murray Bridge. Was back in the run but seemed to get a decent drag into the contest. Just whacked away without threatening behind Winning Weather. Better placed here and is hard to beat.
Good test for 5 Tanja’s Dream (Bet Now: $7.50) but Travis Doudle has her flying at the moment, winning 2/2 this prep. Resumed with a dominant win at Balaklava before showing good ticker to win at Strathalbyn last Wednesday over 1100m. Jump and run 1000m looks her ideal set up.
8 Champagne Affair (Bet Now: $5.50) is better suited at 1000m compared to 1200m. They tried her at the six furlongs two weeks back at Murray Bridge and she didn’t finish her race off at all behind Outlaws Revenge. 1000m is her go in life so back to the trip here I think is a big tick and her best can see her be dangerous.
Race 3. (13:01) G.h. Mumm Mdn Plate 1300m
12 Turfitt (Bet Now: $2.00) looks like she is ready to win her maiden. Resumed at Murray Bridge two weeks ago where she was kept very safe in betting. Had the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten, but just couldn’t quite reel in Victory Club. She’ll take good improvement from that and up in trip, she appeals.
1 Turn Table (Bet Now: $6.50) should love the rise to 1300m for Jake Stephens. Resumed over 1100m at Gawler and on face value, I thought he was pretty plain, but he did parade quite fat in the yard and he raced like it. He just needs racing and added ground, which he gets here.
2 Blah Blah Blah (Bet Now: $15.00) is a sneaky chance. Debuted here last Saturday in a maiden where back and wide throughout. Never really a winning factor, but liked the way he finished his race off. Think there is depth to this maiden, so not sure I could back him to win, but is one for wider exotics.
Race 4. (13:36) Adelaide Galvanising (rs0mw) 1400m
5 Thanasi (Bet Now: $9.00) is racing really well at the moment for the Opperman team and I think is hard to beat here. Ran over 1400m at Hamilton last time out where he was just off the speed and didn’t stop chasing in a pretty good effort when second to Cyclone Tim. Has to be respected in this 0MW race.
I like 4 Trumpsta (Bet Now: $5.00) as a horse for the in form Phillip Stokes camp, which is starting to fire, with an eye towards the Adelaide Trainers Premiership. This gelding resumed at Gawler and I thought the ride from Caitlin Jones was an absolute peach. Tracked up beautifully behind the speed before slicing his way through, drove hard late and was strong to the line in winning. He can go on with it.
7 Free Of Sin (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Chris Bieg trained filly that rises a bit in grade/depth but she is racing in good form at the provincials. Tough effort to win at Penola last time. Was wide throughout and there to be run down, but she found plenty under pressure, fended them off and was too good. Suck run from the draw, she can sneak a first four spot.
Race 5. (14:16) Tab (bm68) 1400m
The form around 1 Thrill Kill (Bet Now: $7.50) does read well I think. Peter Hardacre trained three year old that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since the Warrnambool Carnival when excellent from the back behind Sensationalisation. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work and with good speed engaged, can see him sitting off it and launching late.
Good little test here for 6 Silent Don (Bet Now: $20.00) but I reckon he’s a nice horse. Market was chips in with him when he debuted at Balaklava and it was spot on. He sat off the speed and finished with real purpose late to bet Ye Hella, who won next start, so the form reads well and I think the rise to the mile suits.
4 Cool Magnum (Bet Now: $8.50) should love the rise in trip for John Hickmott. He was 1600m back to 1200m when racing at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and I think you can make a case to say that with clear air, he wins instead of a third to Outlaws Revenge. Up in trip, he appeals.
Race 6. (14:56) Furphy (bm76) 1000m
9 Hypersonic (Bet Now: $4.20) is 2/2 at the track and I think in a tricky race, I’ll side with him to make it 3/3. Looked all over a winner two weeks ago at Murray Bridge but was nabbed right on the peg by a smart filly in Winning Weather. 2/2 at the track/distance and now he’s found positive form, he can go on with it.
11 He’s A Balter (Bet Now: $7.00) rises a fair bit in grade/depth but do have to respect Will Clarken. Big win from him at Murray Bridge a fortnight back, charging home from near last on the turn to get up and win. Where he gets to in the run is the big key. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough.
8 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Paul Seater trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since January 23 at Gawler where she was heavily backed late, but didn’t fire a shot behind Rock Hard and perhaps was looking for the paddock. Has jumped out well to get ready for her return so watch the market.
Race 7. (15:36) Holdfast Insurance (bm60) 1250m
It’ll be interesting to see if the market misses 13 Two Odd Sox (Bet Now: $10.00). He ran in the SA Sprint Final a few weeks ago…well I say ran, but it was more he trialled. He had absolutely zero luck in the straight and was untested. He saves his best for Murray Bridge, he drops to 60 from 82 grade…gee I think he’ll run a big race.
The best version of 8 That Girl (Bet Now: $13.00) is certainly more than capable of figuring in the finish for Phillip Stokes. Three weeks between runs since racing on the course proper here when down the track and failing to fire behind Trygve. Long time since she has raced in a 60 so keen to see how she goes.
12 All In War (Bet Now: $8.00) is a while between wins but I reckon Ryan Balfour has her going well and a win isn’t far off. Looked like it could come at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. Just couldn’t quite get there when third to He’s A Balter in a blanket finish. Does no work from the draw and will be closing late.
Race 8. (16:16) David 'dt' Thomas Mem. (bm76) 1550m
14 Robe Bay (Bet Now: $9.50) has such an awful racing pattern but I feel her best is good enough to beat these. Tried to get blacktype her past couple in the Mares middle distance races. Far from disgraced in the Queen Of The South before a plain effort in the Centaurea, but was displaying signs of having the thumps, so a clear excuse there. If she’s within range 400m out, she’s good enough to win.
9 Highly Discreet (Bet Now: $4.20) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake. Big bets were landed with her when she won at Murray Bridge a fortnight back. Came from nowhere, charging late and blousing them near the peg. With improvement off that, the 1550m should be fine and rates highly.
8 Going Gaga (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Mick Kluske trained gelding that is absolutely flying at the moment. Spanked them fresh during the Oakbank Carnival, then proved that was no fluke with a strong win here in the Autumn Final, with Lane really lifting him over the line. Think the rise in trip only helps and he does seem to be reacting positively to racing on the fresh side.
Race 9. (16:55) Charlie Hoile Cup (bm74) 2250m
I’ll bank on Michael Hickmott knowing what he’s doing with 3 Lord Bouzeron (Bet Now: $4.20). On the seven day back up after racing here last Saturday. Market wanted to be with him and after getting a suck run behind the speed, he whacked away late when third to Call Me Shamus. Fitter, up in trip with stable rider Jess Eaton steering, he’ll do me.
9 Exalted Ambition (Bet Now: $21.00) deserves another chance. Impressive winner two back at Bordertown before backing up three days later at Murray Bridge. He was part of a very strong tempo and that burn just told late, with him tiring to finish down the track. He’s better than that and gets another look for mine.
11 Turf Man (Bet Now: $18.00) is a knockout chance. He appreciated the fast tempo two weeks ago at Murray Bridge and finished off his race with purpose when third to Just Rolling. His run prior at blacktype level was solid so he has some runs on the board to give this a shake.
