5/6/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm, Queensland Oaks day

The Brisbane Winter Carnival continues this Saturday at Eagle Farm where it is Queensland Oaks Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

I like 2 Masaff (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS). Such good placement by the Waller camp with him at Ipswich last time. A Saturday class horse found a Class 1 Plate at Ipswich. Amazingly opened $6+. Ended up starting $2.90 and despite hairy moments on the turn and early in the straight, he was miles too good. That might be the confidence boost he needs to go on with it.

4 Prince Of Arragon (Bet Now: $2.60 TOP ODDS) is a nice horse for John Thompson that is heading in the right direction. Sit/sprint set up was no issue for him when winning two weeks ago over 2000m at Doomben. Lovely steer from Craig Williams and he was miles too good for them. Harder here, but he’s got talent and progression.

Good test here for 10 Traduce (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) but he is absolutely flying at the moment. He has won his past two, both coming over 2200m here, the latest win coming five weeks ago. Interesting he comes back in trip with fresh legs. I am thinking maybe a race like the Grafton Cup is a target? Whatever the case, has to be respected given his record at the track.

4 Verbek (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) has the best engine of this lot I feel. The problem is he has no idea what he is doing upstairs. Ran over 1400m at Hawkesbury last time out and much like the resumption at Wagga, he wanted to wander under pressure. He was first past the post but lost it on protest. If he puts it together, he can win.

9 Volcanic Rock (Bet Now: $2.00 TOP ODDS) looks to be in for a good prep. Resumed over 1300m at Rosehill two weeks ago where he attempted to lead throughout under Avdulla and credit to him, he gave a really good kick. Just couldn’t withstand the finale of a handy one in Overmann. Fitter, up in trip, lands on speed, he’ll take beating.

5 Tutukaka (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a key threat for me. Tony Pike trained juvenile that ran at the Sunny Coast last time out. Looked a race in two between he and Tiger Heart. Landed on speed and tried hard. Just no match for the Gollan juvenile. The depth here as a whole isn’t strong and always have to respect the Kiwis.

1 Red Chase (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) tends to save his best for Eagle Farm and back to a restricted race, I think he can fire. He ran in the BRC Sprint and was far from disgraced in defeat I thought behind Emerald Kingdom in a race shape that didn’t suit him at all. Better suited here and confident he can bounce back.

2 Boomsara (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) is a talented animal for Chris Munce that has been kept on ice since his resumption in the Goldmarket where he looked in need of the run behind Baller. Lone run at Eagle Farm came in 2019 when just under three lengths away from Group l winner Vega One, which reads well for this.

3 Mishani Hustler (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) can be one to get a first four spot at big odds. Resumed in the Chief De Beers where he was near the speed throughout and battled on pretty well I thought when a close up fourth, defying his $101 SP. Not sure I could back him to win, but one for multiples.

1 Usmanov (Bet Now: $2.40 TOP ODDS) comes here with fresh legs for Team Edmonds being four weeks between runs since bolting up in the Bat Out Of Hell. Lobbed into a beaut spot behind the speed and once the button was pushed, away he went and he was dominant. Good record at the track/distance and races well with fresh legs.

5 Boomtown Lass (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) is a ripping mare for Chris Anderson that resumes. This mare is fresh, having not raced since contesting the Magic Millions QTIS race at the Gold Coast where she had to settle for a very game and close up third to The Odyssey. Trial to get ready was sharp and is a mare who races so well on the fresh side.

3 Spurcraft (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is capable if things fall into place for him. I reckon he was going to be right in the finish in the Chief De Beers but didn’t get clear air at the right time and Nothdurft was kind to him late. Fast run 1000m on the big track, can see him finishing over the top.

I think back on top of the ground, 1 Splintex (Bet Now: $2.90) has the class to take this out. He ran in the Doomben 10,000 and I thought it was an odd/poor steer from Josh Parr. Trying to kick up and hold out Eduardo was never going to be a winning move. He tired late behind the star sprinter. No horse of that class here, so I’ll give him another chance.

8 Varda (Bet Now: $4.80) is a James Cummings trained mare that produced one of the wins of the meeting when winning the Chief De Beers two weeks back. She unleashed a brilliant finale from near last on the turn to overhaul them and get the job done. If she can repeat that here, she’ll take beating.

4 Baller… (Bet Now: $10.00) can he be trusted now? First run for Tony Gollan resulted in a very strong win in the Goldmarket at the Gold Coast, pushing claims for a Stradbroke berth. He has been an enigma throughout his career but off the first up win, he has to be respected and a win here would secure him a start in the Stradbroke.

9 Goldifox (Bet Now: $8.50) is going super for Team Corstens. Got a mile back in a fast run race but savaged the line late to just miss out on picking up Cloak. Back to blacktype level, she was far from disgraced in the Silk Stocking the start prior, so I think she’ll take beating against this lot.

1 Groundswell (Bet Now: $3.40) does his best racing from the front and I think if he is to be a winning threat, he needs to lead. He didn’t get the front in the BRC Sprint but that aside, his finale was still pretty plain I thought behind Emerald Kingdom. His best is good enough to be dangerous.

3 Flash Aah (Bet Now: $11.00) has to command respect at odds. Big win from him last Friday at the Sunny Coast in what I could only assume was a prep run given he was a month between runs and back from 1350m. Big win given he was back near last in the run. If he can build off that, he’s in the mix.

If 5 Nudge (Bet Now: $5.50) produces anything similar to what she produced two weeks ago in the Pam O’Neill, she’ll win again. It was the win of the meeting I thought given where she was in the run. Admittedly, it was a fast run race and it was set up for her, but gee her finale was electric. Wouldn’t have looked out of place if she held a nomination for the Stradbroke, but she wins this with a repeat effort of last time.

A more genuine tempo is what 6 Fabric (Bet Now: $18.00) is looking for IMO. The tempo was a crawl three weeks ago at Doomben and once Reloaded put the pressure on 600m out, that race shape just didn’t suit this mare at all. I think you have to forgive her for that and give her another chance here.

8 Aliferous (Bet Now: $41.00) hasn’t won in a long time but continues to race well. That was the case in the Gosford Cup. Had a suck run behind the speed and she tried hard, finishing off quite well when a close up second to Polly Grey. She is bursting to win another race…not sure it’s here but a must for multiples.

1 Duais (Bet Now: $3.90) has the A1 form for mine to be taking this out. I love the thought process of Ed Cummings. I would assume this Oaks is an afterthought, but instead of having lead up runs to get ready, keep her on the fresh side with a tick over trial post the ATC Oaks. That ATC Oaks form looks strong and she does look a stayer.

3 Bargain (Bet Now: $4.80) looks the one from the Roses. She was freshened up from the ATC Oaks and worked home strongly. Loomed to win but just no match for a hard fit Only Words in what was a Chris Waller domination. This filly has class and the extra 200m is ideal for her.

7 Good Soize (Bet Now: $31.00) deserves another chance I feel. I thought she would do much better in the Roses but nothing went right for her from the outset, getting squeezed at the start, being forced to sit near last in the run and failed to come. Prior runs suggested she’s an Oaks filly so not dismissing her.

12 Georgie’s Pride (Bet Now: $2.90) is an absolute beauty for Desleigh Forster and she saves her best for Eagle Farm, which is such a big, big tick. Hasn’t raced since May 1 when a strong all the way winner over 1300m here in what was a super performance of sustained speed. She’ll be near the front and giving her all.

I reckon 11 Kisukano (Bet Now: $5.50) is back on track. Jury was out after a pretty plain run of efforts this time in but that all changed two weeks ago in the Darby McCarthy. She was heavily backed and once McEvoy was able to hold leaders back, it was just a matter of getting clear and once she did, race over. Hopefully she goes on with it now.

Fresh legs back to 1200m I see as a positive for 3 Mass Destruction (Bet Now: $8.00). His last came in the race mentioned above that Georgie’s Pride won. That filly led throughout. Mass Destruction tried hard, but was just no match. Much better set up for him here and Bowman sticks.

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 12 Georgie’s Pride

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 9 Goldifox
