Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (13:01) Leconfield (bm72) 1200m
6 Viduka (Bet Now: $3.20) is getting towards last chance territory but his best is clearly good enough to take this out. Ran over 1000m on the Parks track last Wednesday when well backed but unfortunately got stuck wide no cover on speed and felt the pinch late behind Little Rich Boy. Better luck this time around and he can take this out.
3 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $4.20) is racing very well at the moment for Paul Seater. Ran on the Parks track three weeks ago when chasing a tearaway leader in Savatoxl and she did try quite hard from near the speed. Just couldn’t pick up the McEvoy runner, who ran well last Saturday in the City Of Marion, so that reads well for a race like this.
7 Like A Heartbeat (Bet Now: $9.00) has done a pretty solid job in his short career to date. Last two outings have come over 1300m here, bolting up two back before being far from disgraced in a strong race won by Left Hand Man. He’s going well this guy and overall, don’t think the depth here is as strong compared to last time.
Race 2. (13:36) Furphy Mdn Plate 1050m
8 Zoushine (Bet Now: $1.70) looks the one to beat, but in terms of a betting proposition, don’t think so. She’s got the A1 form to take this out, but she has had a few chances to break the maiden status. In saying that, this is one of the easier races she has contested throughout her career and with the scratching of Anilla, the is now looking a bit on the thin side.
6 Daily Spirit (Bet Now: $4.20) has her share of talent for the Macdonald/Gluyas team and looks hard to beat here. Resumes, having not raced since July 4 at Murray Bridge when down the track behind stablemate Super Striker, perhaps at the end of the prep. Looked to trial well on Monday here and stable is in good form.
5 War Cheval (Bet Now: $35.00) brings fresh legs into this, having not raced since his resumption on Cup Day here when holding a forward spot from the gate but he had to spend plenty of petrol tickets to do that. Just felt the pinch late behind Naleigh. This maiden looks a bit stronger on paper, but the stable are in a purple patch.
Race 3. (14:11) Tab (bm58) 1050m
3 Mrs Hyde (Bet Now: $4.00) will make sure this is a proper 1050m contest. She has blinding early speed, as was seen last Wednesday here on the Parks track. Couldn’t sustain it in the run to the line and dropped out behind Li’l Kontra. She’ll lead this field up and give an almighty sight. The last 75m-100m will be the test but back to 58 certainly helps.
1 Exalted Zoe (Bet Now: $2.25) looks the map horse. Grant Young trained mare that ran last Wednesday on the Parks track where she was a bit tardy to begin with and had to spend some petrol tickets to kick up and hold a forward that just told late when fourth to Little Rich Boy. Maps to stalk Mrs Hyde, get last look, and this is a drop in depth/grade.
5 Kirinia (Bet Now: $3.00) brings fresh legs to this given she is five weeks between runs for the Jolly team, having last raced on October 31 when near the speed throughout and tried hard but was clearly no match for Star Of Uma, who went on to place at Stakes level, so the form reads well and back to 1050m I do like.
Race 4. (14:46) Peter Elberg Funerals (bm58) 1528m
1 Exalted Traveller… (Bet Now: $2.70) how didn’t he win last Wednesday? In play, I’m sure he would have been $1.01 because he was absolutely bolting in the run. Looked a matter of thank you linesmen and thank you ball boys. But he turned it up late and had to settle for a second to Heir Of Tavistock. He can take this out. Just hope he is genuine.
2 Kyshaka (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Peter Hardacre trained gelding that resumed a few weeks ago over 1400m on the Parks track. Had a decent enough run just off the speed and presented as a winning threat when asked for the effort. Just ran out of condition late in the piece. Think he’ll take good improvement from and is hard to beat.
5 Rikibobby (Bet Now: $6.50) is one I could entertain for multiples. Ran over 1400m at Geelong last time out in what looked a strong 58 with a bit of depth and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Regal Riffle, who has run well at metro level previously, so the form doesn’t read too bad and the extra ground should suit.
Race 5. (15:26) Happy 18th Hank (bm64) 1200m
3 Harpuna (Bet Now: $2.10) is a lightly raced galloper for Peter Hardacre that has only won the one race from five outings but has shown good ability since day one. Backed with real confidence last time out at the Valley. Attempted to lead throughout but on the turn, he seemed to take control of Will Price which altered his momentum somewhat, eventually finishing second to the in form Corner Pocket. That form clearly reads well for this.
2 Picargo (Bet Now: $3.90) has returned in good order for the in form Ryan Balfour team. Resumed with an impressive win here on Cup Day before going to Balaklava last week off a freshen up. Looked to have his chance, but perhaps just needed the run given he was over three weeks between runs. He’ll come on from that and is hard to beat.
Nicole Bruggermann is doing a really good job this prep with her gelding 8 Party Hack (Bet Now: $8.50). Impressive winner three back before a failure in a strong race. Came back in grade three weeks back and was good in defeat when third to Tullys Gold. He can be a bit hit and miss but this time in, for the most part, he’s been quite solid.
Race 6. (16:06) Twilight Races At Morp. (bm68) 1100m
Good test here for 1 Taken Off (Bet Now: $2.80) but I reckon he is up to this level. Hasn’t raced since September 5 when an impressive winner from off the pace over 1000m on the Parks track in what has turned out to be a decent form reference. He’ll get back, which wasn’t ideal on this track last Saturday, but the good speed should ensure he get his chance to finish over the top.
3 Just Chipping Away (Bet Now: $3.50) is three weeks between runs for the Darryl Dodson camp since recording an impressive win on the Parks track, wearing down a very game Trip, who of course came out and was beaten a lip in the City Of Marion last Saturday, so the form clearly reads well and now she has won one, she can go on with it.
2 Beeokay (Bet Now: $4.20) is a beauty for Grant Young and I think is hard to beat here. On the quick back up after bolting up to win at this track/distance last Saturday, finding the front and proving much too good. What I will say though is that those near the front were advantaged, but he’s hard fit, in form and is very honest.
Race 7. (16:46) Adelaide Galvanising (bm76) 2034m
Hard to get away from 4 Ritratto (Bet Now: $1.90). Mick Huxtable has done a fab job with him this prep, getting him back to being a quality Saturday horse, taking him slowly through his grades and placing him in races where he can win. The 2034m here looks ideal for him, he should land near the front and take a power of beating.
7 Star Status (Bet Now: $6.00) deserves another chance. Last couple have come at this track/distance. Bolted up two back here before racing last Wednesday where he looked to do a bit wrong on speed, laying in under pressure, giving himself no chance to win when third to Confusion. Happy to give him another chance.
3 Quaffany (Bet Now: $6.00) is an improver here. Team McEvoy trained gelding that was first up since the Terang Cup when racing over 1550m on the Parks track a few weeks ago. Didn’t have a turn of foot but stayed on and was more than sound in defeat when third to Magna Bella. Got upside to come and a touch of quality, so he gets respect.
Race 8. (17:26) Terry Howe Printing (bm82) 1050m
9 Little Rich Boy (Bet Now: $3.10) looks one of the better bets on the program. John Hickmott trained four year old that was disappointing first up, but had excuses. Bounced back to his best last Wednesday on the Parks track, leading throughout to win and win comfortably. With only 52.5kg on his back, can see Jess Eaton coming out humming from the outset and we know he produces sustained speed, good sustained speed, over 1000m.
Was great to see 2 Li’l Kontra (Bet Now: $2.60) back in the winners list. Resumed last Wednesday on the Parks track where she was smashed late in betting, with punters expecting her to be near her best, and indeed she was, getting up to record a super first up win. She has got Stakes class quality at her best. Keen to see if she can win again.
7 Port Vale (Bet Now: $6.00) is bursting to win a race for Stuart Gower. Ran over 1000m last Wednesday on the Parks track when back off the speed and held up at times before getting clear late, bursting through and just missing out on picking up Li’l Kontra. Saves his best for the course proper and a win here wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 9. (18:06) Dominant (bm68) 1600m
5 Territory Titan (Bet Now: $8.00) looks a great bet here. Thought there was a lot of merit in his resumption last Wednesday on the Parks track. Normally he sits on speed, but first up, he got back to near last in the run and was never a winning threat, but liked the way he found the line late behind Left Hand Man. If he lands near the front here, he’ll take a power of beating with upside to come.
9 Zoulah (Bet Now: $4.60) is a very interesting runner. Resumes for the McEvoy camp, having not raced since the Schweppervescence during the Carnival when potentially on the Oaks path but was spelled after failing to measure up to that lot. Liked the recent Murray Bridge and finds a winnable race here if she finds anything near her best.
3 Extreme Thrill (Bet Now: $7.50) has been up forever it seems but the Francis/Kent team has him going really well at the moment. Has finished runner up his past two, the latest coming last Wednesday on the Parks track. He chased and tried hard. Just lacked the class to run down Peloton. Lands near the speed here and will prove hard to beat.
