Back Me

I’ll go the way of 2 Outlandos (Bet Now: $3.60) for Tony McEvoy. Son of Dissident that is making his debut off the back of one jumpout, which came at Werribee. He was back behind the speed before getting an inside split and though pushed for an effort, he did respond nicely and looked to move well. In a tricky race for the babies, I’ll go with the McEvoy camp.

Danger

1 Felicia (Bet Now: $2.40) is a Matty Seyers trained daughter of the ill fated Unencumbered who was specked at odds when debuting on Decemeber 1 on the Parks track. Didn’t have a public trial under the belt but she won most impressively and her last 600m was slick relative to the day. Been kept on ice since. Can she repeat the dose? That’s the unknown.

Long Shot

4 Eclair Breeze (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Shooting To Win filly on debut for Phillip Stokes. She trialled on December 10 on the Parks track at Morphettville and looked sharp in winning her respective trial, with the form being franked with the placegetters running 1-2 in the 2YO race a fortnight ago. Looks a precocious type and I think she can go close first up.

Race 2. (15:31) Barossa Wines At The Races Handicap (70) 1200m

Back Me

All over 2 Tiara Star (Bet Now: $2.60). Will Clarken trains this mare, who has been in two runs back from a break at Morphettville. Bad start cost her first up before she jumped much better on Boxing Day and on the turn, it was no betting and she won so impressively. Think there will be improvement to come from her and this race doesn’t look that much harder.

Danger

6 Yankee Eyes (Bet Now: $2.45) has been up a fair while but this filly has been in great form. Attempted to lead all the way at Morphettville four weeks ago and gave a decent kick but just found Shark In The Water too good. Looks to get the lead again, will give a sight and I like her back in trip against these types. Think she’s a threat with a soft lead.

Long Shot

8 Arctic Blaze (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Darren Magro trained mare who has been racing quite consistently this time in. Raced over this track/distance three weeks ago where she was on speed and battled away well in defeat when fourth to the above average mare Pretty Glass, beaten just under three lengths. This looks a touch easier, and if there is bias towards those on speed, she’ll be advantaged.

Race 3. (16:11) Coopers Handicap (86) 1700m

Back Me

Really tricky race to sort out but going the way of the ever consistent 3 Royal Rumble (Bet Now: $4.00), who is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. Ran over the Morphettville mile a fortnight ago and had a great tussle with Hussybay, but the Mick Huxtable runner just proved too good. Hasn’t won in a little while but I’ll give him the nod, just.

Danger

1 Hussybay (Bet Now: $3.20) is having a near career best prep for Mick Huxtable. Looked as if he’d throw it away when Royal Rumble looked home but he knuckled down really strongly late and got there in the end to get another triumph. 1700m is the unknown with him but I think if the tempo is soft here, his class will come to the fore late I’m sure.

Long Shot

5 Super Haze (Bet Now: $19.00) could be an improver at odds. He resumed over 1400m at Flemington a fortnight back with the market saying he’d need the run and that is how it panned out when down the track behind Mr Money Bags. Has a good second up record and I like him straight to 1700m in a very winnable race if he’s taken enough improvement from the resumption.

Race 4. (16:51) Kingsford Hotel Handicap (70) 1500m

Back Me

This could well be the prep that 1 Canford (Bet Now: $2.15) lives up to his early promise for Ryan Balfour. He was heavily backed when resuming at Strathalbyn and despite a few nervous moments on the turn, once he balanced up, he put them away and won rather impressively. Bigger track and up to 1500m looks perfect, he’s fitter and with natural improvement, he should take a power of beating.

Danger

4 Marina (Bet Now: $14.00) is FINALLY getting out in trip. He’s been racing at 1200m his last two and has run well, but the trip has just been too short. As we saw during the Darwin Carnival, this horse was really effective when stepping up in trip and this is the first time he does for this campaign. On the seven day back up so he should be hard fit, ready to go.

Long Shot

6 Grumpy Guru (Bet Now: $17.00) is a big improver third up from a break. Outstanding resumption over 1100m here from the back before going to Strathalbyn where he was most disappointing despite getting a relatively soft run nearer the inside. Perhaps the second up syndrome kicked in off an outstanding first up effort. Be wary of the third up bounce back.

Race 5. (17:31) Terrace Function Centre Maiden Plate 1100m

Back Me

12 Vietti (Bet Now: $1.70) should be winning this. Tony McEvoy trains this filly, who resumed on the Friday twilight meeting at Morphettville where she got on speed and looked to travel well before Kah clicked her up and there was a response, but she couldn’t hold out stablemate Yulong Star, who got the bob right on the peg. No horse of that class here I think, and with improvement from the resumption, I’m keen on her.

Danger

5 Charmist (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Jon Macmillan trained galloper who should break her maiden tag this time in. Not sure it’s this race but she’ll pick one up very soon. Resumed in a maiden on Boxing Day at Morphettville and just missed when a narrow second to Jaamint. Tricky draw, but should take good improvement and hopefully can get three wide cover.

Long Shot

6 La Vita (Bet Now: $9.50) is a fascinating watch. Stuart Gower wasn’t far off with Bar Gem on Boxing Day when it came to a long price plunge and this girl has been well supported in early betting. Hasn’t raced since August 25 when down the track in a maiden behind the well performed Cross Legend.

Race 6. (18:10) Ausbia Electrical Handicap (75) 1100m

Back Me

3 Over And Above (Bet Now: $3.40) on top. Phillip Stokes trains this gelding, who had been working to a win and it finally came here three weeks ago when given a lovely ride from Caserta and once he got the split, it was all over and he raced away. That was 1200m and I don’t think coming back 100m in trip will be any concern. Keen on his chances.

Danger

There are a couple of versions of 7 Domination (Bet Now: $4.40) but his best version would just about see him win this. He was a month between runs when racing over this track/distance three weeks back, attempting to lead all the way, but he couldn’t quite finish it off when fifth to Alaskan Jade. Should improve off that, lead and give a great sight.

Long Shot

4 Street Life (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Karen Byrnes trained gelding who is in career best form at the moment. This bloke ran over 1200m at Morphettville last Saturday where he was given a lovely ride from Todd Pannell and just proved too good for Danger Deal, who did work on speed and was left a sitting shot. Street LOife did get the win and hopefully that will do his confidence the world of good.

Race 7. (18:45) Sanders Fodder Handicap (70) 2100m

Back Me

Tricky draw but like 6 Good Idea (Bet Now: $3.60) for Phillip Stokes. Regally bred being by So You Think out of Group l winner Faint Perfume. Won’t live up to the breeding but is finally starting to put it together, bolting up last time at Morphettville and landing some good bets. He’s had two looks at 2000m+ and bolted up each time. Hoping he can make it three on end.

Danger

7 Busker’s Ballad (Bet Now: $7.50) should love the rise to 2100m. He was 2000-1800m last time at Morphettville and was a bit unlucky not to win, getting held up when looking to build momentum, eventually running a narrow third to Downunder Prince. Looks a handy stayer at this level, so up to 2100m should be ideal. Just needs clear air this time around.

Long Shot

2 Exalted Craftsman (Bet Now: $13.00) is a real tough nut for Grant Young who has been in work forever it seems but I think he can run a decent race. Ran over 2500m last time at Morphettville in a much stronger race and I thought he was far from disgraced behind stablemate Olympic Academy. Has a good record at the track/distance and this is a considerable drop in depth.

Race 8. (19:20) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (64) 1200m

Back Me

11 Enough Swagger (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a really good type for the John Macgillivray stable. He resumed in a maiden at this track/distance last Friday and while I doubt she beat much, the fact she did it by nearly seven lengths and did it without really being extended by Jamie Kah was impressive. The form from the two runs earlier in the career do read very well for this.

Danger

9 Our Benevento (Bet Now: $6.00) was the subject of a significant plunge when racing over 1200m on Boxing Day but I thought she had her chance on speed when third to Tiara Star, who had the suck run with cover and proved far too good. First up win was dynamic so third up now, she should just about be ready fitness wise and is a definite threat.

Long Shot

2 Counter Spin (Bet Now: $9.50) has been quite good in three runs this time in but is yet to greet the judge and I’ve had enough of putting him on top but concede he’s a contender for multiples. Little unlucky last time but he was out early enough to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Pale Ale. Has a really good record at Gawler so giving him respect as a chance, but couldn’t back him to win.
