Racing returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday with eight races to be run and won. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:32) : Chris Anderson Racing Raceday Handicap (75) 2212m:
Back Me: Buttering up with 9 Walwa (Best Odds: $3.80). I thought she was a really good winning hope when racing over this track/distance a fortnight back and her effort was very good, getting a long way back in the run before closing off hard to run third to Morendi. Confident she can turn the tables and greet the judge first here.
Big Danger: I thought 3 Morendi (Best Odds: $4.40) was the best roughie in that race and he did get out to a silly price, so I wasn’t entirely shocked he got the win on the board. Bit surprised at how dominant he was. Rises in weights, but certainly has earned it off the back of that last start effort. Clear threat.
Long Shot: 1 Cailebotte (Best Odds: $16.00) hasn’t done a great deal since coming to Australia but I thought his effort behind Morendi was pretty good considering he was back near last in the run and had a stack to do with the weight, and he actually closed off alright in the end. If he can perhaps sit closer in the run, he’ll go close.
Race Two (14:07) : BJW Developments Handicap 1000m:
Back Me: 4 Citrain (Best Odds: $7.00) is a Manhattan Rain filly that is on debut for the Bruce Hill yard. She has only had the one public trial, which came on January 17 when running second at the Gold Coast and she seemed to go about her business quite nicely. Interesting to see what the market does with her.
Big Danger: 5 Red Hot Miss (Best Odds: $8.50) is a daughter of Red Element that debuts for the Tony Sears yard at Toowoomba. Hasn’t had a public trial, but I do like the fact that the stable debuts in town rather than find an easier option at the provincials or on the home track. Will be interested to see what the market does.
Long Shot: 9 Ten Foot Tall (Best Odds: $11.00) is a daughter of I Am Invincible who raced over this track/distance a fortnight back where she got back in a slowly run race and despite that tempo, she worked home okay late in the piece behind star North Queensland juvenile Paradis Imperial. Many unknowns here while this filly is known and she looks handy.
Race Three (14:42) : Optus Business Centre Handicap (Class 6) 1000m:
Back Me: 6 Quatronic (Best Odds: $3.00) is a talented gelding that resumes for the in form Matty Dunn yard. He was very good last time in, highlighted by a win in a Highway at Rosehill. Bolted up in a recent Gold Coast barrier trial and ran really sharp time on the soft track. He is an absolute bomb when produced fresh and this looks a lovely first up assignment for him.
Big Danger: 3 Hi I’m Back (Best Odds: $9.00) is the interesting runner here. Hasn’t raced since late August when finishing midfield behind Land Office over 1200m at Doomben. This five year old gelding does have a really good first up record and is unbeaten in two runs at Eagle Farm so for mine he is a definite market watch.
Long Shot: 13 Fortini (Best Odds: $17.00) is a consistent gelding that resumes for the Heathcoate stable. He has some really good form behind him from the Autumn/Winter, including efforts behind Irish Constabulary and Hi I’m Back. Has a very good first up record and though 1000m is short of his best, look for him to finish off late.
Race Four (15:17) : Chris Anderson Racing Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 11 Skylimit (Best Odds: $5.50) can be a hard horse to trust but I am going to stick with him after his strong first up win over 1200m here a fortnight back where he probably hit the front a tad early and that left him gassed late but he clung on. Should only improve off that here I suspect and he remains down in the weights.
Big Danger: 2 Guest Of Honour (Best Odds: $11.00) is such an interesting runner here. Former Hayes/Dabernig galloper that is making his Queensland debut for Matty Dunn. On ability/class/form, he’s a $1.01 to win here, but he is yet to win in Australia. That should change under Matty Dunn given he looked to trial in outstanding order at the Gold Coast recently. Big watch.
Long Shot: 1 Beckham (Best Odds: $14.00) is a talented galloper that resumes for the Liam Birchley yard. He was one of the more consistent gallopers during the Winter, including a couple of really good effort at Stakes level. No trials, so fitness levels are unknown, and his fresh record isn’t great, but he has a bit of class on his side.
Race Five (15:57) : Carbone Developments Plate (Class 6) 1400m:
Back Me: 6 Mystic Opal (Best Odds: $3.10) is an in form mare at the moment for the Chris Anderson yard. She ran over 1400m here two weeks ago and absolutely glided over the wet ground, bolting up by over three lengths under Larry Cassidy. Has won up to 1800m, so we know she will be strong late and she rates highly.
Big Danger: 14 Princess Charm (Best Odds: $5.00) produced a brilliant finishing burst to win over 1400m at the Gold Coast four weeks back where she got back to near last in the run before coming with a well timed run under Robbie Fradd to nab the well performed Brewery on the peg. She’s a mare who is low flying and the little freshen up poses no worry for me here.
Long Shot: 9 Old Habits (Best Odds: $19.00) resumed in that race won by Princess Charm and I thought his effort in defeat was more than tidy given he was back and perhaps not in the A-Ground. He has contested some really good races previously and the fresh effort indicates he is set for a pretty good campaign.
Race Six (16:37) : Ascot Childcare & Kindy Opening Soon Plate (Class 3) 1400m:
Back Me: 15 Candika (Best Odds: $3.60) looks close to a good thing here. Classy filly for Steve O’Dea who drops big time in depth after running in the Magic Millions Guineas where she got back near last in the run and finished off strongly from a hopeless position to be beaten four lengths. On ratings, she should be nearly topweight, but the weights scale just suits her to perfection.
Big Danger: 9 Naranja (Best Odds: $4.80) worked home very strongly first up at Murwillumbah before contesting the Country Cup on Magic Millions Day where he was one of several unlucky runners in the event, working home hard to run a close up fourth to Irish Constabulary, who franked the form by running a beauty last Saturday. Third up, so he should be ready fitness wise and rates highly.
Long Shot: Get the feeling that this is D-Day for 1 Always Sacred (Best Odds: $8.50). Performed very well during his 3YO season, but after an encouraging fresh run, he has done bugger all this time in, and was a major flop over 1200m here last time out, but he was wide and I am not sure he is 100% happy with give in the track. Draws a soft gate, Lloyd sticks…last chance.
Race Seven (17:17) : Chris Anderson Racing Ownership Opportunities Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: 2 L’Entrecote (Best Odds: $3.70) just picks himself here I think. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back on a bottomless track where he struggled to pick his feet up but was solid late behind Transporter. Back on top of the ground will really suit this galloper and I am quite confident he can get back into the winners list.
Big Danger: 10 Hi Son (Best Odds: $7.00) is a horse with good upside here for David Kelly. He also comes through the Transporter race where he got back in the run and was under pressure before the turn but did pick up late and was good through the line. Gets back onto a firmer surface here and Lloyd takes over. Expect him to have admirers.
Long Shot: I think you just have to trust your eye with 1 Transporter (Best Odds: $11.00) and what he did to a similar field here a fortnight back. He was a despised outsider in his first run for the in form Lindsay Hatch yard but he absolutely lapped up the wet track and bolted in. He is just as effective on top of the ground, gets the claim, and for mine, $12 is a silly price.
Race Eight (17:55) : Andersonracing.com.au Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 1 Ringo’s A Rockstar (Best Odds: $3.30) absolutely trotted up against the older horses at the Gold Coast two back before racing over this track/distance a fortnight back where he looked all over a winner but he couldn’t quite pick up Rich Affair and had to settle for second. Looks better off here and is one of the better bets on the program.
Big Danger: 4 Tyzone (Best Odds: $11.00) is a star North Queensland three year old who is simply too good for them back home at Townsville and showed how good he was when winning first up against the older horses, beating Craiglea Deken, who has performed very well in town and has since won, so that form reads very well and I’ll be keen to see how he measures up.
Long Shot: 7 St Hilary (Best Odds: $17.00) is a handy little filly for the Gollan who got the maiden win two back at Doomben before racing over 1200m at the Sunny Coast on a heavy track when sitting on speed and looking home until the final couple of strides when nabbed by Two Shoes. 1200m here on a firmer track looks ideal, she’s hard fit and ready to go.
