Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday where nine races will be run and won. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:05) Lack Group West Tradies Plate 1100m
2 Catanzaro (Bet Now: $9.50) was somewhat unwanted in betting when debuting in the Kirkham at Randwick a fortnight back but I thought he did a really good job to finish off like he did behind Legislation. From the yard, he was the horse that would improve most condition and coat wise, so I am expecting him to go close here at odds.
Race 2. (12:40) CFMEU Mining Handicap (75) 1300m
7 Unforgotten (Bet Now: $3.40) is a progressive type for the Chris Waller team who resumed at the midweeks at Canterbury, and look, she didn’t beat much, but she rounded them up from the back with purpose and on the line he was dominant, with improvement to come. She also did that off one soft trial, so upside is expected.
4 Go Daddy Go (Bet Now: $21.00) could be the big improver here. I think just put a line through his resumption at Kembla Grange. They absolutely walked in that race and he had no chance of picking them up given the tempo. Up in trip is a big tick, there looks to be speed and he does have a touch of class/quality about him.
Race 3. (13:20) AMWU Handicap 1100m
4 Pick Me Up (Bet Now: $5.50) on top. Tim Martin trained galloper who had really good market support when resuming at Randwick three weeks back but nothing went right for him at a vital stage and he should have won when a narrow second to Grand Condor. Excellent second up record and should only improve off the resumption.
2 Tango Rain (Bet Now: $3.20) has been given a five week freshen up since racing over 1200m here where he attempted to lead all the way under Brenton Avdulla and looked to be going easily, but the well backed Zumbelina had his back and she is strong at 1200m+ whereas this bloke finds it a bit much so back to 1100m fresh looks ideal.
7 Ozark (Bet Now: $6.50) is the knockout chance if they overdo it on speed. He is on the back up after racing at Randwick last Saturday where he got back in an on pace dominated affair but worked home well late behind Fickle Folly, who has blacktype form, so that does read well for this. He’ll get back and launch late.
Race 4. (14:00) Turner Freeman Handicap 1800m
He was a late nom, but I’m glad that the stable saw this race lacking depth and have accepted with 6 Black On Gold (Bet Now: $2.10). He is in career best form for mine. Brilliant win fresh over the Warwick Farm before racing over 1800m at Randwick last Saturday on a soft track, which he hates, yet still ran home with purpose behind Interlocuter. Firmer ground, home track…he’ll do me.
5 Collateral (Bet Now: $4.00) had a bit of market support at long odds when resuming over 1400m at Randwick a fortnight back but gee I thought he ran really well in defeat when closing off to just miss out on picking up Improvement. He’ll love the rise to 1800m and the firmer footing is no concern for this talented type.
4 Prince Cheri (Bet Now: $18.00) came back from a failed stint at stud and resumed for David Vandyke in Brisbane with two awful runs. Sent to John O’Shea, trialled, and ran a beauty I thought in the Craven Plate behind Classic Uniform. Back to 1800m is no concern and he is two from three at Rosehill, plus has upside.
Race 5. (14:45) TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
12 Arrondissement (Bet Now: $16.00) on top. Danny Williams trained mare who ran at the midweeks over 1250m at Canterbury where she looked a little outclassed but gee she savaged the line with purpose late in the piece behind Star Of Africa to run third. And as we know with these races, city form is absolute gold.
6 Neyla’s Girl (Bet Now: $7.00) was going to be a short priced elect at Leeton before playing up in the gates and was taken out. Trialled like a bomb subsequent at Albury and went to Warwick Farm last Wednesday where she got a lovely ride from Mick Heagney and got the run to beat Zonk, who some are saying is blacktype quality. Surely that reads well for this.
5 Southern Flight (Bet Now: $13.00) had her first run for the Brett Bellamy stable on Port Macquarie Cup Day and I thought her effort on speed with pressure applied was very good when a narrow second to Heidsieck. She is a strong second up performer and handles all conditions, and did perform well in a couple of Country Championship Heats in the Autumn.
Race 6. (15:26) The Lidoran Group Handicap (80) 1800m
I think 4 Carzoff (Bet Now: $4.80) is a really good bet here. Talented French galloper for Chris Waller who kicked off his second Australian prep at Doomben three weeks back over 1350m and it was just an utter nightmare if you were on. Got back, near the inside, held up, was bolting. I think he probably wins with the right run. If he gets it here, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
3 Impavido (Bet Now: $4.40) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. He ran over the Randwick mile a fortnight back where he was given every chance by Jason Collett but it was just a better ride from Lee Magorrian that beat him on Mortar Platoon. Up to 1800m suits him perfectly, but this is D-Day for sure.
5 Cogliere (Bet Now: $26.00) has had little to no luck in three runs as a gelding. He ran in the Anniversary Highway and his effort to close off in restricted room was very good behind After All That. I think up in trip is what he might be looking for. Yes, an unknown, but ability and brilliance wise, he does have a few of these covered.
Race 7. (16:10) Blacktown Workers Handicap (82) 1100m
5 Rebel Miss (Bet Now: $9.50) looks the knockout chance. She is three weeks between runs since racing over the short course at Randwick where she got back and worked home well late in the piece behind surprise winner Grand Condor. Back to her own sex now and I think up to 1100m from the inside gate is a big tick.
2 In Times Of War (Bet Now: $3.70) is a gutsy mare for Chris Waller. She just always seems to find one better. She comes back in trip after racing over 1250m at Canterbury at the midweeks where she tried hard nearer the inside but found Osborne Bulls too tough and too good. Back to her own sex and back to 1100m are big ticks.
8 Gwenneth (Bet Now: $8.50) has to step it up a notch for the Beer/Hinton yard, but gee I thought she was outstanding in winning over 1000m under the lights at the Valley last time out. Three wide on speed throughout yet looked to be bolting under Jake Noonan before he pressed the button and the mare found plenty under pressure to win. She can measure up here for sure.
Race 8. (16:55) Bradford Soundscreen Handicap (95) 1200m
2 Isorich (Bet Now: $7.50) just cannot be ignored. His last two efforts, both resulting in wins at the Randwick 1200m, have been outstanding. He puts himself on speed, he fights, he kicks and he fends them off. It would be a remarkable job if he was to make it three on the bounce, but I can’t put the line through him at all because he is just so reliable.
5 Handfast (Bet Now: $10.00) is the big watch here. Handy type for Godolphin and James Cummings who resumes here after a somewhat frustrating Winter campaign in Brisbane, where he was expected to run well but didn’t quite live up to expectations. Has been given two trials, the second coming last Tuesday over 1200m at Warwick Farm, so I’m thinking he’s wound up to run well.
If they go silly on speed here, then I think a horse like 3 Invinzabeel (Bet Now: $18.00) could be a real blast out here. I think you have to forgive him for the first up run behind Sir Plush given that horse dominated proceedings from the front and this horse was out the back. Likes racing here at Rosehill and is a bomb when produced second up.
Race 9. (17:40) Bradford Solar Handicap (83) 1400m
10 Gambler’s Blues (Bet Now: $6.50) for me in the get out. Tim Martin trained galloper that is first up here and he can pull out a decent run fresh. Has only had the one, and it was a few weeks back, but it was a beauty when second to Redzel, the Everest winner, and he went just as well as that horse, if not better. Should get the gun run behind the speed, the claim a big tick, and if we do get that drop of rain, it will help him even more.
1 Crafty Cop (Bet Now: $3.90) is a consistent type for the Hawkes camp. Problem is he doesn’t win, but he tries hard, which is what he did a fortnight back at Randwick when a close up second to My Country. Has a really good record on his home track, which includes a placing behind Derryn on Slipper Day. Reads well for this.
Watch out for an improved run from 2 Gamblestown (Bet Now: $20.00). He was a few weeks between runs when racing last Saturday over1400m at Randwick and he held his own quite well in a race that didn’t really suit behind Passage Of Time. That form does read quite well for this and he should be fitter now. I could make a case for him at odds.
