The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday for an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:11) Schweppes Handicap (64) 1000m
1 Kid Flash (Bet Now: $4.60) is a smart three year old gelding for Tony McEvoy who didn’t really set the world on fire first up behind Sebfire. He was given five weeks off, ran over the 1050m on the course proper a few weeks ago and was much better, sitting on speed and kicking really hard under Jamie Kah for a strong and determined win in a race which had depth. Should only improve off that. Trial last week was good and he looks the one.
6 Golden Lustre (Bet Now: $2.60) looks a very progressive filly for the Stokes yard who resumed in the opener on Murray Bridge Cup Day in a 900m maiden and she showed superb speed throughout to win and bolt up in a maiden which did look to have some depth to it. Harder here, but hard to ignore what she did.
5 White Kaps (Bet Now: $17.00) is a son of Kaphero fresh for the Gordon Richards team. This boy hasn’t raced since August on the course proper when running fourth to Sebfire, who has form around the Stakes winning Cliff’s Edge, so that does read very well for this and I liked the way he moved in a trial here last week. Definite yard/market watch.
Race 2. (13:51) Bob Robertson Handicap (82) 1950m
4 Hussybay (Bet Now: $1.65) looks the safe play here. Dominant win two back over 1200m before the stable stepped him up to the mile and for the most part, he looked in trouble but Jamie Kah got him clear air and he dived through late to score impressively. Showing good promise and I have no issue with him at the 1950m.
3 Have Plenty (Bet Now: $4.80) is a gelding in ripping form at the moment for the Hickmott team. Ran over this track/distance a fortnight back where he was given a sweet ride off the pace by Raquel Clark and he loomed large to win but Temps Voleur just kicked too hard and clung on. Should get a soft run once again and rates highly.
2 Little Akie (Bet Now: $9.00) is an absolute beauty who always runs well and back in depth here, he should prove hard to beat. Closed off really well last time out in the Murray Bridge Cup behind Excites Zelady against the tempo/bias to run fifth. Up in trip, down in grade/depth, weighted well, loves the Parks track…ticks a few boxes.
Race 3. (14:36) David Loy Handicap (70) 1400m
3 Lady Of Crebilly (Bet Now: $2.25) is a smart looking filly for the Stokes camp who was backed as if unbeatable when racing over the 1250m here a fortnight back and aided by a gun ride on speed from Caboche, the filly darted clear and won impressively, beating home a field which looked to have depth to it. Depth here also, but has upside and up to 1400m is ideal.
4 Bon Aire (Bet Now: $14.00) might not have beaten much last time out in a Bordertown maiden, but he absolutely spanked them in leading all the way under Paul Gatt. Gave them absolute windburn and ran good time relative to the day. Form around him prior reads well and now he has the win on the board, he could go on with it.
5 Too Tuff Tara (Bet Now: $4.80) was bolters odds when racing over 1400m at Balaklava last Wednesday but nobody told her that as she showed tremendous fight when challenged to kick back hard underneath them to get the win. Clearly harder here, but she has enormous upside and is right down in the weights after the claim.
Race 4. (15:16) UBET Maiden Plate 1400m
7 Made In Russia (Bet Now: $2.10) looks the way to go here. Tony McEvoy trained gelding for China Horse Club who debuted here a fortnight back and tried hard but just found Lady Of Crebilly too brilliant. Gets a bit of headgear now to sharpen him up and despite this maiden carrying depth, I think he can win.
4 Boomer Beach (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Jake Stephens trained son of Canford Cliffs who debuted at Bordertown a couple of Sundays back and he just got too far back behind the dominant winner Bon Aire but he closed off okay. Up to 1400m on the bigger track is a big tick and he should naturally improve. Definite threat.
3 Pujols (Bet Now: $35.00)…oh dear. Well, he is well named given how he can perform at times, but perhaps the rise to 1400m is what he is looking for. Looked to have every chance last Wednesday at Balaklava but he didn’t go on with it at all behind Cobber. Couldn’t back him to win even if you gave me $1 Million, but, an exotic chance with the right run.
Race 5. (16:01) Dominant Handicap (90) 1000m
I’ll give another chance to 3 Get The Nod (Bet Now: $2.80). I was really keen on him when he resumed here five weeks back but he just ran out of condition late when a close up fifth to Cashed, keeping in mind that was his first run since May 2015. Has clearly had his issues, but when he is right, he is a Stakes horse. Confident he can win.
1 Cashed (Bet Now: $3.30) is an evergreen type for the Balfour team who ran in the feature sprint on Murray Bridge Cup Day where he was just run off his legs early and couldn’t get going until the final 200m. He does tend to save his best for the Parks track and he did score a really good win at the track/distance three back.
8 Ogunde (Bet Now: $41.00) had his first run for the Balfour camp at Naracoorte back on September 20 and the veteran sprinter landed some nice bets with a dominant all the way win under Jamie Kah. Was freshened up and bolted up in a trial at Gawler before going to Murray Bridge and just did a bit too much work on speed. Doubt he wins, but he’ll give a sight.
Race 6. (16:46) Become A Member Handicap (64) 1250m
3 Ballinaclash (Bet Now: $5.50) hasn’t won for a little while but gee he finds a very winnable race here. He hasn’t raced since October 6 at the Valley where he had confident market support late but just raced a touch flat to my eye behind the very promising Princeton Spirit. That form should up very well for a race like this.
8 Swipe Me Right (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Bill Bogarts trained four year old who is racing quite consistently at the moment but is just lacking that killer finale to get the job done, like three weeks back on the course when charging home from the back behind Manuel. If he is close enough on the turn, he is certainly good enough.
2 Vieira (Bet Now: $3.20) is a consistent type for the Lean Conlan team who hasn’t raced since September 16 over the 1400m here where he sat just off the speed and tried hard but was simply no match for Silvera, who has gone on to win and run well in Melbourne. Goes well on the Parks track and fresh at 1250m looks ideal.
Race 7. (17:31) Holdfast Insurance Handicap (75) 1400m
11 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $3.50) on top. A really progressive mare for the Balfour yard who looked a good thing on paper when racing here over 1300m two weeks back and aided by peach from Pannell, the mare shoved into the clear, dashed away and won like a good horse. 1400m is perfect, remains down in the weights…struggling to find a negative.
10 Wanted By All (Bet Now: $8.50) ran over this track/distance a fortnight back Sairyn Fawke took advantage of the small field by taking up the running, controlling things to suit himself before dashing clear on the turn and comfortably holding his rivals at bay. Now he has the win on the board, he can go right on with it.
1 Tenere (Bet Now: $35.00) was not surprisingly out in betting when resuming here a fortnight back in a field of five and as expected, the race shape just didn’t suit. They walked for the most part before sprinting 400m out. Not his go. Needs tempo and he should get it here, plus he has the run under the belt, so don’t be surprised to see improvement.
Race 8. (18:10) The Junction Handicap (64) 1000m
I think this race evolves around 2 Chapel City. (Bet Now: $3.70) If he is anywhere near right and is forward enough, I think his class gets home. He ran in some really good blacktype races during the Carnival here and was far from disgraced. Goes well fresh, loves the Parks track and the claim for Wong is a big tick.
14 Bonney (Bet Now: $4.50) has had a couple of runs now for the McEvoy and has been pretty good every time she has stepped out. Her speed got her the maiden win two back at Swan Hill before a gutsy third at Mornington behind the above average Villa Rosa. Liked what I saw in a trial here last week and she rates highly.
16 Lady Alcatraz (Bet Now: $15.00) is the interesting runner here. First up for the Marilyn Smith team after a two run Autumn prep where she ran okay without setting the world on fire, but I will say both of those races had far more depth than what she faces here. Trial here last week was good and she races well fresh.
