Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:48) Edward Street Brisbane (c3) 1800m
Now that 9 Blackboots (Bet Now:Β $5.50) has her confidence up, she could well go on with it. That confidence boost had to come via Rockhampton in a pretty thin Class 1 but she powered clear late, made a mess of them and that would have done her confidence the world of good. Capable of winning this.
4 Sokudo (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is racing really well at the moment for Les Kelly and he can win again. Last couple have come at this track/distance, surging hard late to win two back before a game fourth to the very much in form Champagne Aunty three weeks ago. Only has to hold his form to take beating again.
3 Divine Eleven (Bet Now:Β $14.00) can figure in the finish. Rode him too warm two back behind Sokudo. Rode cold three weeks back and was good late without being a winning threat behind Champagne Aunty. That form looks A1 for this kind of race and he’ll be a key threat for sure.
Race 2. (12:23) 97.3fm Qtis Hcp 1600m
8 Duchess Rothesay (Bet Now:Β $2.50) should eat up the mile here for Rob Heathcoate. Backed with confidence last time out over 1400m in a maiden at the Gold Coast and the bets were landed. She was dominant in drawing clear at the end and won with something in hand, suggesting an extra furlong will be no issue. Hard to beat.
1 Finsceal (Bet Now:Β $3.90) should be fine at the mile. He was having just his third career start behind Release The Beans a fortnight back over 1400m here and 200m out, he looked like he would go past the Heathcoate runner, but it’s hard, in form and was just too tough. Now he has that hard run under the belt, the mile should be ideal.
4 Red Wave (Bet Now:Β $7.50) should be okay at the mile. Was a few weeks between runs and was up to 1400m from 1200m when racing at the Sunny Coast. Loomed to win but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Sergeant Silva. The break between runs and up in trip was the reasoning for him tiring late IMO so giving him a chance here.
Race 3. (12:58) Impressu Print Group (bm80) 1600m
1 Baanone (Bet Now:Β $2.25) is hard to beat here. Team Sears trained gelding that was the subject of strong market support when racing at this track/distance two weeks ago and under a lovely ride from Maloney, he was able to wear down Adelase, with 4+ lengths back to the third horse. Similar race here, he’ll prove hard to hold out once again.
6 Adelase (Bet Now:Β $2.80) is racing really well this time in for Barry Baldwin. Put together a couple of sharp wins over the mile at Doomben before racing at this track/distance a fortnight back where she took the front, kicked and looked home, only to be bloused late by Baanone. Just has to hold her form to be around the mark.
3 Seeingisbelieving (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind At Witz End. Then raced behind Baanone and co in that race mentioned above and stuck to the task well when third. Gets in well after the claim and has more upside.
Race 4. (13:33) Trc Life Members (bm78) 2200m
Pretty keen here on 4 Navy Cross (Bet Now:Β $2.50). So often we see these staying races in Brisbane, they are void of early tempo and leaders. This guy comes from Sydney for the WaterBott camp, he’ll lead, he’s proven at the track and the stable have a good record at the track if the recent Winter Carnival is any guide.
7 Steel Pier (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is getting hard fit now and I’d say with upside to come, he is the one for me. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when third up. He was back in the run, spotting them a decent start, and worked home strongly behind Top Order when fourth. He’s got room for improvement and rates highly.
1 Last Week (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a Maher/Eustace trained stayer that is a few weeks between runs since racing over 2200m at Doomben. Not sure the race shape suited but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind the in form London Banker. Break between runs is no issue for me and have to respect the stable.
Race 5. (14:08) Sky Racing Hcp (c6) 1000m
4 Je Suis Belle (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is flying for Mark Currie and is hard to beat here I’d suggest. Was 1200m back to 1000m when racing here two weeks ago and once she landed outside the speed after a good jump, it was race over and she was dominant. Similar set up this around, she’ll take beating.
1 Le Palmier (Bet Now:Β $2.20) has been a costly conveyance for punters his past few but he looks ready to win second up. Resumed over this track/distance two weeks ago where he had the suck run near the speed and was there to win. Just couldn’t quite get there when second to King Klaus. Fitter, he’ll take beating.
2 Kalilk (Bet Now:Β $8.00) has the quality to figure in the finish. Resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast just under a fortnight back. He was backed with confidence late but could only manage a third to Tavisan, who is Stakes class when right, so the form reads well and he is better second up.
Race 6. (14:43) Des Lambart Memorial (bm85) 1200m
3 Royal Hale (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is three weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since bolting up at this track/distance. Sat on speed throughout and when clicked up by Jaden Lloyd, the response was instant and he was much too good for his rivals. Bit more depth here but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
4 Genzai The Wolf (Bet Now:Β $4.50) is racing really well this time in for David Murphy and is a definite winning threat. He ran over this track/distance three weeks back when off the speed and working to the line well, but couldn’t quite reel in Dusty Tycoon. Honest customer that’ll be thereabouts once again.
7 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is a first four threat. Mick Lakey trained gelding that resumed on testing ground at Doomben and the run had merit I thought despite being beaten just under three lengths. Gets firmer footing, gate one, significant weight relief, he can bounce back.
Race 7. (15:22) Eureka Stud (bm72) 1200m
10 Jubai Pride (Bet Now:Β $7.50) has a liking for the track and has to be respected. Started favourite when racing here two weeks back and thought she was there to beat Undeniable but in the end, that mare was just too good. The big tick is that she likes racing here, which keeps her in the mix.
Was with 7 Undeniable (Bet Now:Β $4.60) when she won here two weeks ago and won’t be dismissing her here. Matty Smith trained mare that was given a lovely steer by Kyle Wilson-Taylor behind the speed before getting a split nearer the inside and away she went for a dominant win in solid time. Confident she can go close again.
3 Ready Babe (Bet Now:Β $20.00) saves her best for firmer footing and that is what she gets here. Found a bog track at Doomben last time out and struggled to pick her feet up behind Rebel Salute. Gets a much better set up this time around and a significant jockey booking of Brad Stewart, she commands respect.
Race 8. (16:02) Tattersall's Members Qtis Hcp 1000m
I’ll take a punt on 6 Mister Larrabee (Bet Now:Β $4.50), resuming for Stuart Kendrick. Had three runs during the early part of the Winter to statr his career, failing twice, both times on wet ground, with his lone dry track run being a four length romp at the Sunny Coast. Trialled well leading in and should get every chance from the inside draw to be within range and be strong late.
1 Rhapsody Rose (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is a daughter of Star Witness for Chris Munce that resumes. She had a three run prep during the Brisbane Winter, highlighted by a win in the Bill Carter, a race won last year by September Run. Doubt she reaches that level but she has class on her side against this lot.
10 Snowdrop (Bet Now:Β $10.00) deserves another chance. Chris Anderson trained filly that was backed with confidence when resuming here over this distance but she failed to fire a shot from off the speed and was quite plain behind Princess Bojack. Respecting the market support she had and giving her another look.
Race 9. (16:42) Emma Williams (bm75) 1400m
1 Vinco (Bet Now:Β $4.00) has found winning form and he can go right on with it. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Triple Ace. He then stepped up to 1400m when well backed late and loved the way he surged over the concluding stages to nab Rock Amore near the peg. Fitter, he’ll take beating.
4 Avowal (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is racing really well for Lindsay Hatch and is deserving of a Saturday metro win. Looked like it would come at Eagle Farm a few weeks back and for the most part, he looked home, but was nabbed late by Barney’s Law. Just has to hold his form to prove very hard to beat here.
2 Samurai (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is three weeks between runs for John Moore since recording a strong win over 1500m here. He looked in a bit of trouble early on in the straight but as the race went on, he got better, finished off with purpose and was able to wear them down. Now he has a win on the board, he could well go on with it.
