The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out two metres from the 1600m-1200m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:56) Vicki Quinn Handicap (75) 1250m
4 See Me Fly (Bet Now: $4.40) on top in a tricky contest to start the day. The Ellerton/Zahra team train this bloke, who hasn’t raced since June 9 over 1400m at Flemington when finishing midfield behind the in form Barthelona. He’s a really good fresh who finds a winnable race and the tick over trial behind Vega Magic was very good.
1 Hard Empire (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the one to beat on current form. Richard Jolly has this bloke flying at present. Ran over the 1200m on the course proper three weeks ago where he was well backed and under a lovely ride from Huxtable, the gelding landed some good bets. Just has to bring that to the Parks track now but confident he can.
2 Stragun (Bet Now: $9.00) has been so consistent during the Winter here but just can’t crack it for a win. He is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Gawler (Metro) where he tried hard but was outclassed when fourth to So You Too. Back to this level should suit…couldn’t back him to win, but all multiples will include him.
Race 2. (13:31) Geoff Smith Handicap (82) 1400m
2 Embecee Lil (Bet Now: $1.90) looks one of the good bets of the day right across Australia. Ryan Balfour has this mare going so well at the moment. Soft win here two back over the 1250m before stepping up to this track/distance where she was unlucky. Not sure she would have beaten Exalted Adam but just had no luck when looking for it. Not as much depth this time around, keen.
3 Modulate (Bet Now: $2.70) is a son of Ambidexter for Richard Jolly who was given a sweet steer from Huxtable to win over the 1250m here a fortnight back. He stayed nearer the inside whereas most other jocks looked out wide for seemingly better ground. Saving that ground won him the race. He’ll better at 1400m and is getting closer to peak fitness.
6 See Me Rollin’ (Bet Now: $5.50) could be one to include in exotics. He had market support at odds when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back where he got a fair way off them in the run but I liked the way he closed off late in the piece behind Trogir. More depth, but decent weight relief and he’ll be strong at the end.
Race 3. (14:06) Don't Bother Me Handicap (82) 1950m
5 More Than Fabulous (Bet Now: $3.80) is racing quite well at the moment for Gary Searle and will be a serious winning chance if the rain came and we got a wet track. He ran over 2400m here a fortnight back and tried hard but just didn’t quite run the trip out behind Meli Melo. Back to 1950m will suit and yep, he’ll be doing rain dances.
7 Igitur (Bet Now: $4.00) comes right into the mix with the featherweight for Jackie Chan. He ran over 2000m on the course proper last Saturday and stuck on well in defeat behind dominant winner Star Patriot. Clearly not as much depth this time around and with only 52kg on his back, he’ll take some holding out.
2 Rock On Ivy (Bet Now: $3.80) had trialled up well on a couple of occasions prior to having her first run for Grant Young over 2000m on the course proper three weeks ago where she never really looked likely but I did like the way she finished her race off behind Silvera. Should come on from that, and overall, this is a thin race.
Race 4. (14:41) Kevin Barclay Maiden Plate 1000m
4 Mahis Angel (Bet Now: $2.90) on top. Most of these runners trialled on July 19 either behind Lake District Girl and Gytrash. This colt ran second to the former and though pushed out, he responded and closed off well. Good to see that from an unraced type in a trial. He’ll do me in what is an open contest.
7 Gennikay (Bet Now: $3.70) comes through the Lake District Girl trial also. She was pushed out all the way by Gary Lo but like Mahis Angel, did respond under riding, but probably not to the extent of Mahis Angel. Senior jock on probably helps her cause a bit and being by Shamus Award, the wet track certainly no issue.
1 Bar Gem (Bet Now: $10.00) is a son of Barbados debuting for Stuart Gower. Yet to produce a first up/debut winner last 12 months from 10 starts, but has placed on five occasions, so generally speaking, he has them ready, so I’d keep tabs on the market and how he parades in the yard. Definite for exotics IMO.
Race 5. (15:21) Sandron Handicap 1000m
Nothing race this so I’ll throw the darts and go with 4 Cashed (Bet Now: $4.50). Son of Krupt who is going okay at the moment for Ryan Balfour. He ran down the straight at Flemington last start and worked home quite well I thought behind Invincible Al. Back home, should park off a hot speed set by Ogunde and be strong late.
5 Showpero (Bet Now: $1.60) will welcome the drop back in depth after contesting the Monash last time at Caulfield where she ran okay but was clearly no match for the class and brilliance of Voodoo Lad. Tends to save her best for the Parks and ideally if she can sit off the likely strong tempo, she’ll be a live threat.
1 Counter Pulse (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Hard Spun resuming for the Macdonld/Gluyas yard. This six year old hasn’t raced since February when finishing midfield on the course proper behind Stellar Collision. Recent trial behind Callisto Girl was encouraging…1000m is short of his best, but he does have the class factor.
Race 6. (16:01) John Castleman Retirement Handicap (70) 1550m
5 Extreme Witness (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Lloyd Kennewell trained three year old who was good in his first two runs this prep before going to Murray Bridge where he was a $1.40 pop and despite looking not 100% on the track, his class came to the fore late and proved too good. Has run well in town before so I think he’ll measure up.
3 Rupture (Bet Now: $3.60) isn’t the most reliable horse going around but that can be said about several of these. Okay resumption here behind Mystified before racing on the Parks track and catching the eye late behind Last Witness. Not the best record at around 1600m, so that’s the query here, but he’s racing as if it will suit and this isn’t a strong race.
8 Harbour Express (Bet Now: $23.00) rises big time in grade/depth, so I doubt he wins, but one thing going for him is that he should have little to no trouble in handling the wet track. Ran at Murtoa last time where he started long odds but despite the lack of respect from the market, he ran really well when second to Rosie Goodnight. Wider exotics, I’d include him.
Race 7. (16:41) Happy Birthday Jenny Dale Handicap (64) 1000m
3 Domination (Bet Now: $1.95) looks a really good type for Tony McEvoy who started Winx odds when resuming in a maiden at Balaklava and he justified the short quote with a very comfortable win in pretty slick time relative to the day. Showed good promise in his first prep, trialled well and produced that first up. He should win.
1 Callisto Girl (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Kylie Huxtable trained mare resuming. She contested some strong mares races in the Autumn and was far from disgraced in races which had far more overall depth than what she faces here. Recent trial win was was very good and she can sprint well fresh plus has the inside draw. Near a good thing to run top three.
8 Taste Of Diamonds (Bet Now: $17.00) is an Emma Hubbard trained mare who did everything right when debuting with a win over 900m at Murray Bridge. Jumped, led, relaxed, kicked in the straight and in the end comfortably held her rivals. Time was quicker than the benchmark over the same trip that afternoon which is always a good sign.
Race 8. (17:20) Ian Barton Memorial Handicap (64) 1300m
11 Fleeting Feeling (Bet Now: $3.80) on top but not much confidence in this race. Tony McEvoy trains this mare, who resumed a fortnight back over 1000m here where she was well backed but didn’t find much in the straight and to the eye was pretty flat behind All About Nicci. Hopefully up to 1300m and back in depth helps the cause.
6 Bolt I Am (Bet Now: $8.50) is a son of Myboycharlie for David Jolly who ran over the 1250m here a fortnight back where he got a mile back off the speed but you had to like the way he finished his race off when third to impressive winner She’s Beneficial. Up to 1300m looks ideal for this gelding and the depth isn’t strong.
7 Exalted Lauretta (Bet Now: $5.90) is on the quick back up after racing at Gawler on Sunday over 1200m where she attempted to lead all the way and to her credit she gave a really good kick but just found Snowbrook too good on the day. Should sit somewhere near the speed from the gate and always respect Grant Young when he backs his horses up.
