4/8/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley

A strong nine race card has been assembled for Moonee Valley this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Landed with 4 Divine Mr Tycoon (Bet Now: $5.50) in a really tough three year old race. Brendan McCarthy trains this colt, who debuted at this track/distance back in March when on speed and fighting hard when second before going to the Gold Rush at Bendigo where he ran fourth to the above average Thrillster. Jumped out last Tuesday at Caulfield and was given a good hit out in winning to the eye.

1 Sanglier (Bet Now: $4.20) is a son of Albrecht resuming for James Cummings. This colt hasn’t raced since the Queen Adelaide during the SA Carnival where he was a close up second to Heaven’s Deal. Looked pretty good in a recent Flemington jump out and has the form on the board. Just on guard with the stable and generally having them soft in condition for their resumption.

5 Yulong Wain (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Team Snowden trained youngster who has abundance of early speed and will look to break their hearts from the front. Did that on the Geelong Synthetic last time in a maiden and bolted in. Can’t back Synthetic form onto the turf for the win, especially in town, but he’ll be on speed and giving a sight.

Looks a race in two but I’ll just lean the way of 1 Miles Of Krishan (Bet Now: $5.00). Lovely ride by Melissa Julius got her home over 1700m two weeks ago at Flemington, getting a beaut sit just off the pace before angling clear and finishing best in a driving go. Should do no work from the gate and the claim for Julius certainly helps.

6 Naantali (Bet Now: $2.80) is a mare on the up for Ciaron Maher. I had doubts about her beyond 1200m after getting beat at Sale two back but she put that theory to bed with a dominant win over the 1400m at Flemington, but she was helped by a soft early tempo, which is what she’ll likely get here also, which will help her cause.

4 Crafty Devil (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Darren Weir trained mare who might need one more run but she’s certainly got the quality to be competitive here. She resumed over 1400m at Sandown where she got to last in the run and was never likely in a slowly run affair but finished off okay very late in the race. Up to the mile suits and is a winner here.

I like 4 Belzella (Bet Now: $9.00) here. Tony McEvoy trains this filly, who debuted on Stakes Day during Cup Week in the Maribyrnong Plate when third to stablemate Run Naan before being tipped out. Jumped out well and resumed in a thin maiden at Balaklava, where she started Winx odds and ran accordingly, bolting up under Jamie Kah. Shocked if she didn’t measure up.

9 Fidelia (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Robbie Griffiths trained filly who was backed off the map when debuting last week at Cranbourne over 1000m and despite doing a bit wrong in the run and then in the straight, she really balanced up and won like a good horse. Raced rated highly and she did it with plenty of upside to come. Definite chance.

3 Le Pomme De Pin (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented filly resuming for the Lloyd Kennewell team. This girl hasn’t raced since the Wyong Magic Millions when not handling the tight track at all when down the track behind Jonker. Recent trial win at Morphettville was outstanding and she looks to get a really good run on the map.

4 You’ve Been Had (Bet Now: $3.10) looks the way to go. Talented horse for Lisa Enright who was a good thing beat here two back behind Balancing Act prior to racing down the Flemington straight where he didn’t appear 100% happy down the course behind Malibu Style. Back around a bend, back in depth and back to 1000m looks an ideal recipe.

1 Oberland (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Rothesay that resumes for the Darren Weir yard. He has plenty of talent and has shown that in patches for Weir since coming from Queensland but he has had injury issues, which is why he hasn’t raced since December. Can’t find any recent jump outs for him but he has a very good fresh record.

2 Plateau Gold (Bet Now: $7.50) has been a ripping campaigner for a number of years, firstly with Jim Jarvis at Coffs Harbour, and while he hasn’t quite gone on with it since joining Quinton Scott, he did produce his first win for the new stable in pretty impressive fashion on the Geelong Synthetic when leading throughout. He’ll jump, run and give his all.

This just looks a perfect race for 5 Streets Of Avalon (Bet Now: $3.30) to get back into the winners list. Shane Nicholls has this bloke going quite well but he just hasn’t been able to crack it for a win. Ran over the mile a fortnight back at Flemington and tried hard but Al Passem just had it too good in front and kicked too well. More tempo here and a fair bit back in depth.

8 Minoan Spirit (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Darren Weir trained son of Bullbars who is going quite well at the moment. He ran over the Sandown mile just over two weeks back where he got a fair way back off the speed and tried hard when a closing fourth to stablemate Red Choux’s, who franked the form by winning at Morphettville. Close up in his lone run here so he’s had the experience, which helps.

2 Radical (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Dubleo gelding trained by Jarrod Robinson who bounced back to some form of positive form last time in the Red Choux’s race at Sandown when working home strongly to run third, and that has form has already been franked. He is a winner here and now he’s found form, he can go on with it.

There is the query of second up syndrome, but I’ll go the way of 4 Streetcar To Stars (Bet Now: $4.00). Had his first run for Team Williams, his first run since August 2014, over 2400m at Sandown where he was near the speed throughout and fought on quite well in defeat behind Pioneertown. Should come right on from that…just hopefully no second up flat run.

1 Thunder Cloud (Bet Now: $5.00) is the hard fit/in form runner for Darren Weir and is the one to beat. Super win two back at Sandown before stepping up to 2500m at Flemington where he tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in Serenade The Stars. Drops big time in grade and did place here three back. He’ll look the winner at some stage.

14 Kawabata (Bet Now: $14.00) is a daughter of Encosta De Lago for Jamie Edwards who comes through the Sandown race won by Pioneertown and tried hard from the back but was never a winning threat. She has a really good record at the Moonee Valley 2500m, on the minimum and gets Williams steering.

There is two horses I want to back here, starting with 11 Another Coldie (Bet Now: $3.20). Was really keen on his chances last Wednesday over 1700m at Geelong and under a lovely ride from Ethan Brown, the Darren Weir trained galloper proved too good for his rivals. Run prior behind Guizot/Mantastic was good and he’s had that hard grounding for this 1600m assignment.

I can’t endure the pain of putting 12 Call Me Handsome (Bet Now: $3.40) on top, watch him get no luck and be pipped again. I’ll back him though because I’m a sucker. Ran over 1400m last Saturday at Caulfield where he was wide for the most part yet fought hard to take the lead, only to be bloused late. He is a winner at the mile…just give him luck please.

I think for wider exotics, I’d be including the bludger that is 10 Mihany (Bet Now: $21.00), because if there is any hint of bias towards those on speed, he’s the bloke who will be leading and rolling. Hasn’t raced since going way too hard in front in the Winter Championship Final when tailed off last. Likes racing here and Regan rides the horse better than most.

2 Morton’s Fork (Bet Now: $3.10) on top in what is a tough race. Had his first crack at 2000m a fortnight back at Flemington where he tried hard but was just no match for the class produced by Sixties Groove. That was his first run at the trip and he more than held his own. He’ll be better for that run and is on top now.

1 Pacodali (Bet Now: $2.90) is a stablemate of Trap For Fools who hasn’t raced since June 30 when winning impressively over 1700m at Caulfield, nabbing Sixties Groove late, and we know what that horse has done since. He is a track/distance winner from last year, beating Almandin, so the form around him reads so well.

Team Williams had a couple nominated for the race but they have just the one runner in 4 Hans Holbein (Bet Now: $5.00). He’s a very interesting runner. Hasn’t raced since the JRA Trophy in the Spring of last year when finishing down the track behind Almandin. At his best, he’s right in the game. Just depends if he is.

Happy to have something each way on 2 Got The Goss (Bet Now: $11.00). He is just under three weeks between runs since racing over the 1140m at Geelong on a very shifty track, something he hates, yet still savaged the line from the back to run a close up fourth to Labuan Star. Up to 1200m will definitely suit and hopefully gets firmer footing. He’ll get back and launch late.

The likely strong tempo will also suit 1 Labuan Star (Bet Now: $6.50), who won that race mentioned above and that was largely down to an absolute peach of a ride from Brad Rawiller, who had him parked off the speed before presenting on the turn and kicking hard in the straight. Should ease back from the gate and launch late.

12 Queen Annabel (Bet Now: $10.00) is a mare racing in near career best form at the moment for the Rebecca Kelly team. She ran over 1200m at Sandown last time out where she did work on speed and for the most part she was there to be beaten but she found plenty and surged hard to get the job done. Should park off a good speed and likely get the box seat.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 2 Got The Goss
