Nine races will be run and won at Rosehill on Saturday where there is some very promising gallopers right across the meeting. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (11:25) : TAB Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: With race fitness on her side, I’ll lean the way of 11 Intrinsic (Bet Now: $4.00). Heavily backed on debut at Wyong and despite not really handling the tight circuit, she was tough and impressive in winning that race, a maiden which looked to have a bit of depth to it. Avdulla jumps on from gate one, bigger track, up to 1200m…very likeable.
Big Danger: 7 Kanga’s Eye (Bet Now: $4.20) is the big watch here. Team Cummings trained filly that started long odds when debuting in the Gimcrack but she ran an absolute beauty behind Jorda. Trial efforts have been encouraging. What I will say is that I wouldn’t take anything short, so a definite market watch.
Long Shot: 10 Charlie Chap (Bet Now: $12.00) is a handy filly who has been really good in recent times. Ran here a fortnight back where she got out of her ground but finished off quite nicely to run third. Is tending to find one or two better but she finds a winnable race here. Looks progressive and she looks one of the hardest to beat here.
Race Two (12:00) : Pro Rata ATC Membership On Sale Sprint (78) 1200m:
Back Me: Siding with 1 New Universe (Bet Now: $2.10) but only just. Talented three year old for Chris Waller who is making quite the impression since arriving from New Zealand. Both runs have come here, and he produced a barnstorming finish to win first up before being tradesman like and to my eye more impressive here a fortnight back. Back up to 1200m looks ideal and should take some beating.
Big Danger: 10 Test The World (Bet Now: $9.00) is a progressive filly for Bjorn Baker who deserves a crack at Saturday grade. Ran a couple of Wednesdays back at Warwick Farm where she was given a peach of a ride behind the pace by Ben Melham and despite wandering about in the straight, she won with a fair bit of arrogance and a bit in hand. Looks perfectly placed up to this level at the trip and has upside.
Long Shot: 2 Faraway Town (Bet Now: $18.00) is a quality filly that resumes for Matty Smith. Always been competing in Stakes company and more often than not, she has been far from disgraced. This is the first time she hasn’t raced in Stakes company since start three. Big watch here, especially with no trial under the belt.
Race Three (12:35) : Schweppes Handicap (78) 1500m:
Back Me: 3 Wahng Wah (Bet Now: $4.20) looks the way to go here. Handy mare for Kris Lees who ran in a similar race over 1400m here a fortnight back and didn’t receive the best of luck but I thought she was very good late when clear behind Dagny. Up to 1500m does suit to the eye and stable is low flying.
Big Danger: 5 Labdien (Bet Now: $6.00) can be a mare that is hard to trust but I think she has been quite encouraging in both runs back from a break. Ran well fresh on Anzac Day at Randwick before being given the little freshen up and racing in the Dagny race where she was a real eye catcher from the back to run second.
Long Shot: 8 Countess Marinov (Bet Now: $7.00) isn’t one of mine but down at the bottom of the weights, she could be the improver and a blowout chance. Ran fifth in the Dagny race and to my eye was a bit disappointing but in her defence, she did a bit of work on speed and felt the pinch late. Looks to map well here and is a definite contender with a soft time of it.
Race Four (13:10) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1400m:
Back Me: I’d be happy to take $1.10 for 3 Zamex (Bet Now: $3.00) to win this, so any price is a good one. Just wins. Quality three year old for Matty Dunn who has been excellent in two runs back from a break. Resumed at Eagle Farm and worked home well behind Oink before going to the Gold Coast where he beat all bar Niccanova, who won the Fred Best last week. That form reads so well…he just wins.
Big Danger: 5 Mister Marmalade (Bet Now: $6.00) is a very promising gelding that resumes for Danny Williams after formerly being with Greg Bennett. Bennett did rate him as a future Country Championships candidate, which speaks volumes of how highly this horse is regarded. Got a good little record, and though no trials, he’s a big watch.
Long Shot: 2 Cliff (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Joe Cleary trained three year old who has been given a near month break since contesting the Wagga Guineas where he did a bit of work to sit on speed and fight hard but was overhauled late when midfield to Exocet, who then popped over to Morphettville to win a Stakes race. That reads well for a Highway.
Race Five (13:45) : McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (72) 1500m:
Back Me: Giving some healthy respect to 13 Volpe (Bet Now: $9.00) here. He is a three year old gelding who rises sharply in grade but he deserves a crack in town. Spanked them in a maiden during the Wagga Carnival before racing over the mile on his home track at Goulburn and he won with a bit of arrogance there. Carries only 52kg after the claim, draws well and is on the up.
Big Danger: 7 Just Dreaming (Bet Now: $4.60) was out of her depth last time out in the Scone Guineas but despite being outclassed, she ran a beauty I thought when a close up fourth to France. Sat on speed and kicked on strongly but just felt the pinch late. Back quite a bit in depth/grade here and she should take some beating.
Long Shot: 11 Walk The Streets (Bet Now: $7.00) is a well bred filly for Chris Waller who rises to Saturday grade but I think she can be quite competitive here. Both runs this prep have come at the midweeks at Warwick Farm. Ran last Wednesday there and looked very unlucky when a close up third to Pelorus Jack, getting badly held up at a vital stage. Knockout chance for sure.
Race Six (14:25) : Tab.com.au Handicap (85) 1200m:
Back Me: I think 8 Girl Sunday (Bet Now: $5.00) is a great each way play here. Talented mare for Gerald Ryan who has had two runs back from a break. Resumed in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast and was outclassed there before racing at this track/distance where she led and gave a good kick but just felt the pinch late behind Bonny O’Reilly. Maps well and we know with the rail out at Rosehill on a firm surface, leaders are advantaged.
Big Danger: What you see is what you get with 6 Wild ‘N’ Famous (Bet Now: $5.50). He’s nothing flash, no superstar, but he tries hard and more often than not will get a cheque for connections. Tried hard to wear down Bonny O’Reilly two weeks ago but just couldn’t quite get the job done. Knocking on the door to win a race and he gets his chance.
Long Shot: 7 Invincible Knight (Bet Now: $16.00) is the big watch here. Talented galloper first up for the John Thompson yard after an overall disappointing prep in the Summer where he didn’t quite show us how good he can be. Won brilliantly first up last time in and has been tuned up with a couple of lovely trials. Very interested to see if there will be support for him.
Race Seven (15:05) : Eremein Handicap 1800m:
Back Me: 9 Montauk (Bet Now: $6.50) has been very good in recent times for the Chris Waller yard. I thought there was alot of merit in his effort here a fortnight back. Apprentice jumped on and the horse just got too far back in the run and then didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight. Convinced he is going well and back to 1800m looks perfect.
Big Danger: 4 God’s In Him (Bet Now: $9.00) trialled very well here prior to going to the Scone Cup where he was very good in defeat, settling well back in a fast run race but he picked up and was strong late behind Duca Valentinois, who went on to run a beauty last week at Eagle Farm. First run beyond the mile but he gives the impression he will handle it.
Long Shot: The little break between runs could spark the old boy 1 Mighty Lucky (Bet Now: $11.00) into action. He too ran in the Scone Cup where he sat near a hot speed and with his big weight, that left him gassed behind Duca Valentinois. That form has been well and truly franked, and we know he is a very good horse when he is on song.
Race Eight (15:45) : Octagonal Handicap 1400m:
Back Me: 11 Slightly Sweet (Bet Now: $26.00) is a talented mare for Jason Coyle who looks a great each way play for me here. She has had two runs back in blacktype races for the mares. Got too far back in a bunched finish in the Godolphin Crown at Hawkesbury before going to the Dark Jewel where I thought she closed off nicely late behind Daysee Doom. Third up, so she should be ready fitness wise and third up last prep she was five lengths off Newmarket winner Redkirk Warrior.
Big Danger: 7 Sir Bacchus (Bet Now: $5.50) can be a bit of an enigma, but I think he finds a very winnable race here. Wet track was against him first up at Randwick behind Nieta before going to the Luskin Star at Scone where he got too far back but I really liked the way he closed off behind Clearly Innocent, who has gone on to win a Group l. That is the right form for this.
Long Shot: 3 Shiraz (Bet Now: $8.50) is the very interesting runner here. Has now had a full prep under the care of Kim Waugh after being transferred to her mid prep last time in from the McEvoy yard. Outstanding trial win recently, beating Danish Twist by three lengths and running sharp time. He flies fresh and loves Rosehill.
Race Nine (16:25) : #theraces Handicap (85) 1500m:
Back Me: Giving 14 Dreamforce (Bet Now: $2.80) one more chance. Thought he was really good two back at this track/distance before going to the midweeks at Warwick Farm over the mile where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a really good kick but was outgunned late. Back to 1500m suits big time and if he gets cover, he’ll take some beating.
Big Danger: 11 Louie Sea Kay (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented galloper for the Gwenda Markwell camp but given his racing pattern, he does need things to go his way in order to win. He ran over 1500m at Hawkesbury last start where he got a fair way back in the run where he had a nice sit near the speed and tried hard but had to settle for second to So Willie. Has a really good record at Rosehill and should be at peak fitness now.
Long Shot: 6 Sultan Of Swing (Bet Now: $13.00) is a quality New Zealander who comes to Sydney after running in the Members Cup at Doomben last time out where he looked to struggled around the tight circuit and was never a factor. Back on top of the ground here on a bigger track and Angland steers, so I’m expecting sharp improvement.
