Race One (13:55) : Kirin Megumi Handicap 1000m:

Back Me: 6 Scalpel (Bet Now: $2.20) is a smart three year old that resumes for the Simon Miller yard. Two runs to kick off his career. Bolted up on debut at Bunbury before racing at Ascot where he sat wide no cover throughout and stuck on well behind Glimmer Girl. Just has to overcome the sticky draw to go close.
Big Danger: 2 Kramden (Bet Now: $6.00) will be suited by the small field here. He ran over 1000m at Ascot a fortnight back where he had the nice sit just off the speed and looked to travel well throughout but he just lacked the killer punch when fifth to Dainty Tess, beaten three lengths. Draws to get the box seat and is a knockout chance.
Long Shot: 4 My Laina (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented filly that is first up here. She has done most of her racing at the provincials but the signs are there that she is a city class horse for sure. Resumes off the back of no trials and in town, so I think, for me, that’s a sign that the stable might have some confidence with her.

Race Two (14:35) : WA Day Plate 1000m:

Back Me: 7 Mizlecki (Bet Now: $1.60) looks a standout in the two year old race. This Fred Kersley trained filly debuted at the midweeks at Ascot on May 17 where she had three wide cover throughout and once she was given clear air, she showed an electric turn of foot to get the job done. Pike remains on which is a good lead and she looks the one to beat.
Big Danger: 6 Take The Stand (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Star Witness gelding that debuts for the Simon Miller yard. He has had two trials to prepare for his first day at the races, the latest when winning here and running really good time. Draw makes things a little hard, but if he can get over and get cover, he will take some holding out.
Long Shot: 2 Watchit (Bet Now: $10.00) was a drifter in the market when resuming at Ascot a fortnight back but despite that I thought she was pretty impressive in winning, leading all the way and under Pike and bolting up. Time was nothing flash, and Pike jumps on, but young Pateman is riding in superb form at the moment and she has the speed to overcome the draw.

Race Three (15:15) : Mumm Champagne Handicap (1MW) 1200m:

Back Me: 7 Karlakee Miss (Bet Now: $2.90) for me. This filly ran over 1000m at Ascot a fortnight back where she got held up a touch early in the straight but finished off quite nicely to run second to the ripping filly that is Dainty Tess. Back up to 1200m looks perfect for this Durrant/Miller trained filly, and this is a very winnable assignment.
Big Danger: 5 Tommy Who (Bet Now: $2.80) is a four year old gelding that is first up for Team Williams. He can be hot and cold to follow and back, but he did show at times last time in that he is certainly up to this level. 140 days since his last run and comes here off the back of no trials. Very good first up record though and Pike is on.
Long Shot: 1 Big Caroline (Bet Now: $31.00) could be the big improver here at odds. He has had two runs back from a break and really hasn’t set the world on fire each time, but he was okay late behind Meteoroid. The key for him is that he draws gate one, so he should be able to be put to sleep, and he does have a very good third up record.

Race Four (15:53) : Amelia Park Handicap (1MW) 1200m:

Back Me: 6 Blackline (Bet Now: $2.10) is the big watch here. Very smart filly for Simon Miller who is back off a 59 day let up. Created a big impression last time in, winning first up by nine lengths without being fully extended. She looks a potential Summer Carnival filly, maps well, should go close to leading and taking some running down.
Big Danger: 10 Show Honey (Bet Now: $5.00) is a talented type for Team Williams who took an eternity to break the maiden status but she did it in style first up over 1200m at Ascot where she really savaged the line and won like the horse we all expected her to furnish in to. She can go right on with it now.
Long Shot: 1 Trademark (Bet Now: $14.00) hasn’t raced for 28 days since racing over 1000m at Ascot where he was tardy to begin with and could never really recover from that when finishing down the track behind Dainty Tess. We know that he is very good when he is right, and I’m giving him serious respect here in a really good contest.

Race Five (16:37) : Pink Ladies High Tea July 8 Handicap (66+) 1000m:

Back Me: Giving 1 Star Glitter (Bet Now: $8.00) another look here. This gelding was three weeks between runs when racing at Ascot a fortnight ago where he looked to struggled on the soft track when finishing down the track behind Just Act Natural. He is much better than that, and getting back on top of the ground will help his cause.
Big Danger: 9 Two Silver Trees (Bet Now: $3.60) has always been a mare touted with good ability and a hype, but just hasn’t quite lived up to that. Still, there was plenty to like about her first up win at Ascot at the midweeks where she absolutely spanked them. Carries no weight after the claim and can run well second up.
Long Shot: 6 Pop Hero (Bet Now: $8.50) is the horse who could blouse these if they overdo it in front. Hasn’t raced since the Spring where he seemed to race like a tired horse towards the end. Trial win recently was very sharp to the eye and he does seem to save his best for Belmont, so a definite market watch for me here.

Race Six (17:15) : Tabtouch Handicap (78+) 2000m:

Back Me: 2 North Ridge (Bet Now: $6.50) goes on top for me in a race that doesn’t fill me with much confidence. He hasn’t raced for three weeks since racing over 1800m at Ascot where he wound up nicely late to just miss out on the win when second to Ripper Rio. Up to 2000m looks perfect and he should take some beating.
Big Danger: 4 My Magic Miss (Bet Now: $3.60) comes through the same race as North Ridge contested behind Ripper Rio. The Albany Cup winner was huge at Ascot given she bungled the start and lost all hope really but she was outstanding in the straight and got very close. Up to 2000m is ideal and she does have a touch of class/quality.
Long Shot: 5 Dark Musket (Bet Now: $9.00) loomed to win two weeks back over 2100m at Ascot but he just really struggled to let down properly on the wet track. I think on top of the ground here, he will be more effective and is right down in the weights. I can certainly see him proving to be a knockout hope.

Race Seven (17:55) : Belmont Sprint 1400m:

Back Me: 3 Rock Magic (Bet Now: $4.20) is a standout and the best bet on the card. He didn’t quite measure up in the TJ due to the heavy track/bias and returned home. Ran in the Roma Cup a fortnight back and gee he was outstanding, letting down with purpose and spanking them. He should be winning.
Big Danger: 1 Scales Of Justice (Bet Now: $2.90) is the class factor. High quality galloper for Lindsey Smith who was a superb winner of the Railway before losing the Kingston Town under controversial circumstances. Draws wide, but his trials leading in have simply been awesome and he looks wound up to run a beauty.
Long Shot: 6 Battle Hero (Bet Now: $23.00) just raced a touch flat to my second up in the Roma Cup behind Rock Magic. He had the charmed run behind the speed but just couldn’t quite let down. He will be much better on top of the ground and be very wary of the third up bounce back, especially with the stable.

Race Eight: Peninsula Dining Room At Belmont Book Now Handicap (72+) 1400m:

Back Me: 2 Special Delivery (Bet Now: $3.30) can be a hard gelding to trust, but I’m confident he can get the job done here against this lot. He resumed over 1200m at Ascot a fortnight back and just got a mile out of his ground, but worked home with real purpose behind Just Act Natural. Outstanding record at Belmont and goes well second up. Keen.
Big Danger: 4 Meteoroid (Bet Now: $4.00) is a talented mare for the Simon Miller yard who resumed over 1200m at Ascot two weeks ago and was given a sweet steer by Mitchell, getting the box seat and split at the right time. She does tend to do her best racing early on in the prep, so give her serious respect here.
Long Shot: 5 Baraki Beats (Bet Now: $16.00) is a handy miler that is first up here for Jim Taylor and Ryan Hill. Overall, the prep last time in was just okay without being great but he did win two wins on the bounce during that stint. Looked really good in a trial here recently, and that told me that 1400m fresh will be no issue.
