Racing in Sydney heads to Rosehill on Saturday with a nine race card, and while there are no feature races, the depth is strong. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:05) : The Viridian Lightbridge Plate 1100m:
Back Me: Godolphin should win the race. I’ll lean towards their first starter Telperion (Best Odds: $2.25). The son of Street Cry trialled here a couple of weeks back here and won the trial impressively, and ran smart time. Draws gate one and looks the clear way to go.
Big Danger: Pyx Chamber (Best Odds: $4.20) also won a trial here prior to debuting at Randwick where he ran well but was simply no match for the nippy Miss Amajardan, beaten 3.5L. Draws to get a nice sit and he does have the race experience on his side.
Roughie: Broome (Best Odds: $13.00) is on debut for Paul Perry after bolting up in a Gosford trial a tick under two weeks back. Stable is absolutely flying at the moment, along with the jockey, she draws a good gate and should take some beating.
Race Two (12:40) : AMWU- National Handicap (85) 1800m:
Back Me: Going for the horse with upside, which clearly is Lady Le Fay (Best Odds: $4.20). She was having her first run in Australia under the care of Chris Waller when working home strongly late over the mile to run third to stablemate Good Project. She is a winner up to 2100m and is a Stakes winner from her racing days across the Tasman, so she looks well placed here.
Big Danger: Farolitos (Best Odds: $4.00) drops back to 1800m after racing over the Randwick 2000m three weeks back where he ran a credible third to Herne’s Oak. Form out of that race is a touch suspect, so that’s the query, but back in trip and back in depth suit.
Roughie: Quick Strike (Best Odds: $9.00) has had two runs back at the Sydney midweeks after a strong effort in the Queensland Derby. He made up ground first up at Warwick Farm behind Gamblestown before going to Canterbury and not being suited by the slow tempo when fourth to stablemate Electrifyin’. Third up now, so he should be ready fitness wise and looks a leading contender.
Race Three (13:20) : Bradford Soundscreen Handicap (93) 1100m:
Back Me: Going to take a chance with Religify (Best Odds: $4.80). He had two runs during the latter part of the Autumn and was very disappointing after an outstanding Summer prep, which included wins over Craftiness and Shiraz. Recent trials have been very good and he looks to be back to the form that we saw around this time last year.
Big Danger: Inz’n’out (Best Odds: $2.25) is racing in such consistent fashion of late. He strung together two very impressive wins before running a close second to Good Project at Randwick a fortnight back. Back to 1100m is perfect and he will love the weight relief he receives here.
Roughie: Agent (Best Odds: $16.00) trialled very well prior to resuming at Warwick Farm where he worked to the line well late when a close up fifth to Fine Mist, beaten 1.3L. That mare ran well at Stakes level a fortnight back so the form has been franked well and truly, along with Diamond Oasis running well at the Valley. Agent does run quite well second up and he is trained on the track.
Race Four (14:00) : Lidoran Group Handicap (72) 1200m:
Back Me: Dinghu Mountain (Best Odds: $4.80) resumes here for Chris Waller. This son of Snitzel kicked off his career in the Winter and it yielded two runs, a debut win at Hawkesbury and a pleasing third at Warwick Farm. Recent trial behind Ottoman was sharp, trained on the track and looks pretty smart.
Big Danger: Lady Sniper (Best Odds: $5.50) ran over this distance last Friday night at Canterbury and led all the way for a sharp win. The first up run was good also, so the signs are there that she has returned in excellent order. Should lead from the gate and if she gets a cheap sectional, she will take some beating.
Roughie: Chamarel (Best Odds: $5.50) was a drifter in betting when resuming at Wyong yet the Godolphin gelding, who has form around Vancouver and Vanbrugh, proved too good. Harder here, but those formlines are excellent and small field suits.
Race Five (14:45) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1300m:
Back Me: Invienna (Best Odds: $3.80) ran in the first staging of this race at Randwick a couple of weeks back where she ran quit well but was no match for the brilliant finishing burst of Grand Proposal. Trainer Greg Bennett knows when to bring them to town and he rarely leaves without a win.
Big Danger: Cricklewood (Best Odds: $10.00) has earned himself a crack at this race after putting together two impressive wins, firstly his maiden at Nowra before getting the job done at Canberra. Harder here obviously, but gate one and with these highway races, you need to be on horses in form, and this horse fits the criteria.
Roughie: The Big Rig (Best Odds: $19.00) is a consistent type for Luke Pepper who ran well last time out Canberra but couldn’t quite get the job done and had to settle for second to Singled Out. One from 15 doesn’t read great, but he is tough and will be on speed.
Race Six (15:25) : Blacktown Workers Club Group Handicap (85) 1500m:
Back Me: Keen here on Telepathic (Best Odds: $3.60). Her run was outstanding when resuming over 1400m at Randwick, charging home late to run third to Moral Victory, who dictated from the front and clung on. Stack more upside with her and her only start at Rosehill resulted in a Stakes placing behind Group l performers. Looks close to a good thing.
Big Danger: Artistry (Best Odds: $3.50) has really found her niche under the care of Team Snowden, stringing together two wins on the bounce, both times ridden to absolute perfection by Thomas Huet, who is starting to the city opportunities he deserves. This mare was excellent of the Warwick Farm mile last time out and she did score a strong win over this track/distance the start prior.
Roughie: Tarangower (Best Odds: $8.50) resumed in that Moral Victory race and he did a good job to finish as close as he did after sitting wide no cover early on in the event. He should improve off that and second up last time in he ran second to Artlee in the Country Championship and that horse could well win at Flemington. Excellent form and he is a leading chance.
Race Seven (16:10) : CFMEU Mining & Energy Division Handicap (85) 1200m:
Back Me: Magic Of Dreams (Best Odds: $4.60) comes back to Sydney after one run in Brisbane, which yielded a close up second to Star Drop, beaten narrowly in a close photo finish. This mare did run well in the Provincial Championship behind Sure And Fast, who has returned in great order, so the form around her is great. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: Alart (Best Odds: $8.00) comes through the Brian Crowley (1200m) at Randwick where she sat wide no cover yet stuck on well to run fifth to impressive winner Counterattack, who will go around as a chance in the Coolmore at Flemington. Draws much better, drops in depth and has beaten the older horses this time in.
Roughie: Rustic Melody (Best Odds: $26.00) is the clear class mare. She was very good during the Autumn/Winter, highlighted by her efforts in both the ATC Oaks and Queensland Oaks, both behind star mares including Winx. Can perform well fresh, and though 1200m is short of her best, her class will carry her a long way.
Race Eight (16:55) : JLL Handicap (77) 1100m:
Back Me: Very thin race. I’ll go with the speedy Freeze The Charges (Best Odds: $3.50). Winona Costin rode him perfectly last time out at Warwick Farm and the horse duly saluted, bolting up, beating home Eminent Duke, who did run well in a harder race last Saturday. The 1100m start does suit on speed runners, and I highly doubt anything will hold this horse when it comes to leading.
Big Danger: I Can Rock (Best Odds: $5.50) is on the quick back up after racing last Saturday over 1000m at Randwick where he made up ground to run fourth to impressive winner Mr Manhattan. The start prior he worked home very strongly late over this track/distance behind a smart three year old, so the form is strong and he can handle a quick back up.
Roughie: I’m Usain (Best Odds: $11.00) was caught wide throughout on a hot speed yet stuck on very well late in the piece when running third to Freeze The Charges. Draws much better here and is well weighted after the claim and meets the top tip 2kg better.
Race Nine (17:40) : Vincents Forensic Accounting Handicap (78) 1350m:
Back Me: I am keen here to see how Duca Valentinois (Best Odds: $2.70) makes his Australian. Godolphin purchase who won his last two starts overseas, both coming over 2000m at Curragh. Now with John O’Shea and he looked very sharp in winning a barrier trial here on October 16, beating home Group l performer and stablemate Generalife, and he went far better than that galloper, who had already had the run under the belt prior to that trial.
Big Danger: Heavens Above (Best Odds: $9.00) is a talented mare that resumes for Tim Martin. She performed in the big three year old fillies races during the Autumn/Winter, with the highlight being a third to Slightly Sweet in the Keith Nolan. Recent trial here was very good and she has a touch of class on her side.
Roughie: Lofty’s Menu (Best Odds: $15.00) won impressively first up at Goulburn when carrying 62kg, then went to Warwick Farm and got too far back in a leader dominated race when fifth to Freeze The Charges. Bit of upside left with him and getting back on to a bigger track will suit this gelding ideally.
BEST BET: Race Nine Number 10 Duca Valentinois
NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 3 Telepathic
VALUE: Race Three Number 6 Agent
