Nine races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out twelve metres from the 900m-Winning Post; Out ten metres for the remainder.
Race 1. (11:20) Atc Thanks Stable Staff (bm72) 1300m
4 Seleque (Bet Now:Β $4.20 TOP ODDS) should appreciate getting back to a firmer track. Chris Waller trained filly that found heavy ground at Canterbury last time out and couldn’t pick her feet up late when second to Matterhorn. Lands in a plum spot from the draw and is hard to beat.
9 Skedaddle (Bet Now:Β $1.90 TOP ODDS) looks hard to beat but from a price angle, she is rock bottom IMO. Recent midweek form has been solid on the Kenso, her last start seeing her win, driving hard late after looking in trouble early on in the straight. Gets in well after the claim and has to be respected, but from a betting perspective, I’d want a better price.
11 Pensato (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) is a James Cummings trained filly that resumes. Hasn’t raced since the Spring when down the track in the Wakeful on Derby Day at Flemington. Think she will get better as the distances increase but has trialled well in readiness for her return so watch the market.
Race 2. (11:55) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1200m
I’ll take a chance with 6 Philipsburg (Bet Now:Β $8.00 TOP ODDS), who resumes for James Ponsonby. This three year old hasn’t raced since March 26 when winning the Country Magic at Muswellbrook on Championship Wildcard Day. Looked great in a recent Goulburn trial win and will be strong late.
9 Knight Driver (Bet Now:Β $10.00 TOP ODDS) has done little wrong in her short career to date for Clint Lundholm. Month between runs since attempting to lead throughout over 1100m at Rosehill in a Highway and was only pipped late by Hellenism in a tight go. Lands near the front and will take some running down.
13 Danzadel (Bet Now:Β $6.50 TOP ODDS) is a Terry Robinson trained mare that is racing well and is deserving of a Highway win. Strong win over 1400m two back at Goulburn. Then came back to 1200m here and worked to the line with purpose when second in a Highway two weeks ago. Hard to beat the way she’s racing.
Race 3. (12:30) Thanks Frontline Workers-bm78 1800m
2 La Chevalee (Bet Now:Β $2.50 TOP ODDS) had been bursting to win a race for some time and it finally came here two weeks ago. Put into a lovely spot by Tim Clark and once he pushed the button on the mare, it was race over and she was far too good. Back to Mares grade, she only has to hold her form and I think she wins again.
4 Bring The Ransom (Bet Now:Β $7.50 TOP ODDS) hasn’t really run a bad race this time in and I think she’ll appreciate the 1800m. Ran over the mile here a fortnight back and while she was never really a threat to La Chevalee, I liked the way she finished her race off. I think the 1800m will be okay and she’s a mare in form.
5 Oakfield Missile (Bet Now:Β $21.00 TOP ODDS) is a Saturday metro winner at this trip so I think she’ll be suited. Ran behind La Chevalee here two weeks back and was good late in a closing fourth. She’ll love a drying track and she is proven at the trip at this level, so for mine, she’s a knockout chance.
Race 4. (13:05) The Agency Real Estate (bm78) 1800m
5 Mr Gee (Bet Now:Β $4.50 TOP ODDS) has been up a little while for John O’Shea but gee he is racing well. Loved the way he toughed it out to win two back at Canterbury, then backed that up with a dominant win last Wednesday on the Kenso track. He’s flying and only has to hold his form to go close.
1 Criminal Code (Bet Now:Β $5.50 TOP ODDS) should love the firmer deck. He’s going really well this time in for Chris Waller. Not sure he totally appreciated the conditions here two weeks ago but he is a stayer and in a slog, he was always going to be strongest late. Fitter and getting up to a more suitable trip, he appeals.
3 Badoosh (Bet Now:Β $4.40 TOP ODDS) is back on track I feel. Jury was out early on in the campaign but his run behind La Chevalee a fortnight back was full of merit. Despite never really being a winning threat, I liked the way he finished his race off. Back on firmer footing, he can cause problems.
Race 5. (13:40) Midway (bm72) 1300m
6 Zorocat (Bet Now:Β $2.70) looks the safe option. Damien Lane has this filly absolutely flying this prep. Three weeks between runs since bolting up in the Midway at this track/distance, lapping up the bog. She’s just as effective on firmer footing and lands in a plum spot from the draw.
3 Lord Zoulander (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a Gary Portelli trained gelding that was a dominant winner of the Midway two weeks ago here. Lovely ride from Avdulla I thought, slicing his way through the field and when the gap came, away he went and he was dominant. Harder here re more depth, but he’s a horse that is in form.
10 Rock My Wand (Bet Now:Β $6.00) can be an improver here. Matty Smith trained filly that comes here several weeks between runs after racing over 1300m at Rosehill. Race shape didn’t help but I think 1300m sees her out at that level. Better suited here I feel and on her best form, she is capable of winning this kind of race.
Race 6. (14:15) Atc Thank You Owners (bm78) 1500m
5 Monegal (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a ripping mare for Theresa Bateup and she looks in for a good prep. Resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago and worked home powerfully late, just missing out on the win in a three way photo behind Vitesse. Fitter, up to 1500m on a firmer deck, she’ll take beating.
3 Dick Whittington (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is a very interesting runner. French import that makes his Australian debut for the Matty Smith camp. Lightly raced that showed promise in France, winning two of four runs, looking like a progressive stayer. 1500m is short of his best, but he has trialled well leading in.
9 California Longbow (Bet Now:Β $41.00) is a Team Snowden stayer that resumes. Hasn’t raced since March 25 on testing ground on the Kenso track here when down the track behind Savvy Valentino and was looking for the paddock. Has trialled in good order and can sprint well fresh.
Race 7. (14:50) Moet & Chandon (bm88) 1400m
6 Le Gai Soleil (Bet Now:Β $4.60) should appreciate racing back in grade. Ran in the Winter Stakes three weeks ago and was far from disgraced I thought on very testing ground behind the in form Bandersnatch. A firmer deck will really help her cause and her best is clearly good enough.
9 Madam Legend (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is five weeks between runs for Les Bridge since spanking her rivals fresh at Rosehill, aided by a lovely ride from Brock Ryan, which kick started his purple patch. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work and if she can translate her wet form to dry, she’s hard to beat.
7 Vitesse (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a ripping mare for Chris Waller that is just honest and genuine. Loved the way she dug in to win here a fortnight back. Had to really dig in to get the win but she did and got photo went her way in a close finish. Harder here, but likely lands on speed and will try hard.
Race 8. (15:30) Precise Air (bm72) 1000m
8 Miss Dior (Bet Now:Β $6.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Team Snowden trained filly that resumed over this track/distance two weeks ago. She had a charmed run behind the speed and was out in time to threaten, but just no match for a hard fit/in form Our Bellagio Miss. Hard to beat back to this level I’d suggest.
3 Nikohli Beagle (Bet Now:Β $7.00) can improve big time back on firmer footing. Blitzed them three back at Warwick Farm on dry ground. Last couple have been on testing wet tracks and he has run okay, but has clearly been less effective. Back on a firmer deck, he can take this out.
4 Remlaps Gem (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is a Scott Singleton trained speed demon that will look the winner for a fair chunk of this race. Comes through the John Kirby at Grafton where he was on speed throughout and when he booted clear, he looked home, only to be nabbed late by Jule’s Spirit. Got the racing pattern to give himself every chance.
Race 9. (16:10) Fujitsu General (bm88) 1100m
Convinced that 2 I Am Power (Bet Now:Β $6.00) is racing well. Mark Newnham trained former Hong Kong galloper that won well at Rosehill two back. Then had a tick under two months off prior to racing here where he just lacked that race fitness when fourth to Our Bellagio Miss. Fitter, up in trip, he appeals.
6 Our Bellagio Miss (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a ripping mare for Greg Hickman that has to be hard to beat despite going to 88 grade. Lovely steers from Tommy has seen her win her past couple, the latest being a dominant win here two weeks ago. Harder here, but hard to ignore the way she’s racing.
Very wary of 3 Outback Diva (Bet Now:Β $23.00), resuming for the Freedman camp. This mare had a solid Summer/Autumn prep, which ended with a solid effort in the Aspiration behind Missybeel. Normally she’s a second up specialist but her trials suggest she is flying and commands respect fresh.
Race 10. (16:50) Atc Thank You Trainers (bm78) 1300m
1 Kordia (Bet Now:Β $3.50), back on top of the ground, deserves another chance. Total forgive fresh at Eagle Farm. Freshened up and went here two weeks ago when striking wet ground and failing to fire. Back on top of the ground with J Mac steering, he gets one last chance.
3 Cuban Royale (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is on the seven day back up for Team Price after winning last Saturday over 1200m at Rosehill. Given a lovely ride by Brock Ryan, slicing his way through the field and finished best to get the job done. Can he translate that form to Randwick? If he can, he’s hard to beat.
4 Radipole (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is a Matty Smith trained veteran that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since January 28 when down the track behind Above And Beyond. It has been a long time since he has won, with one trial under the belt, and lands in a plum spot with Nash to steer, so he’s a first four threat.
