30/1/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Durbridge Stakes day

Feature racing returns to Morphettville this Saturday where it is Durbridge Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

3 Echoes In Eternity (Bet Now: $2.70) has got the maiden win out of the way now and I think she can go on with it. That maiden win came two weeks ago at Murray Bridge. Heavily backed late and looked in a bit of trouble early on in the straight, but her class came to the fore late and was too good. Confident she can measure up to this lot.

6 Mrs Mourinho (Bet Now: $3.10) is on the quick back up for Phillip Stokes after racing last Saturday at Gawler. The small field ensured it would be a sit/sprint and I just don’t think that race shape was to her liking, but closed off strongly at the end to run third of four. Fast run 1100m, can see her sitting back and finishing over the top.

4 Pimm’s Party (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly that resumes. Showed good promise in her first prep, bolting up on debut at Murray Bridge before finishing down the track behind speed demon Mileva. Liked a recent jumpout and has enough early toe to cross from the tricky draw.

7 Virtue (Bet Now: $2.90) is a big watch here. Phillip Stokes trained filly that resumes, having not raced since her debut on the Parks track in June when hard in the market but failed to fire a shot behind All Banter, who won at Stakes level on Tuesday, so that form clearly reads well, and three jumpouts indicate she’s ready to go.

2 Self Sufficient (Bet Now: $3.70) is a son of Rich Enuff for Jon O’Connor that resumes and looks hard to beat. Had two runs as a juvenile and was far from disgraced each time he stepped out in a couple of strong form races. Liked his jumpout win here last Tuesday and stable is having a decent run at the moment.

1200m back to 1050m I find interesting with 3 Effortkat (Bet Now: $5.00) but she does look to have the best exposed form in terms of proper race experience. Ran over the six furlongs at Murray Bridge two weeks ago and worked to the line strongly, but had no answers for the finale produced by Bolt By. Think that form reads well for a race like this.

2 Tibetan (Bet Now: $2.60) is hard fit now and I think this is just about D-Day for him. Was second up in the space of seven days when racing at Murray Bridge a fortnight ago where he had a suck run behind the speed and loomed to win, but couldn’t quite get there and had to settle for second to surprise winner Hobo Bob. Hard fit now, he gets his chance.

Fresh legs and back to 1800m I like for 5 Night Passage (Bet Now: $2.70). Forget she went around last time out at Sandown over 2100m. Went too keen in the run and and I think the trip found her out, especially at that level. Much better suited at this kind of distance range and can win this for sure.

Always have to respect Patrick Payne when he brings them to SA so including 4 Medieval Miss (Bet Now: $4.20), a mare who comes back in trip after racing in the same race that Night Passage contested. This mare beat Night Passage home by some nine lengths, admittedly she had excuses, but still, that’s a significant margin, so if you like Night Passage, have to like this girl.

The Freedman camp looks to have a perfect race for 2 Soul Obsession (Bet Now: $2.60). Sat back off a decent speed last time out over 1100m at Moe before Holland eased her wider and she let down like a good horse to win and win well. Stable rarely get it wrong when they send them to SA for races like this and the time she ran at Moe was significantly faster than the other two 1100m races for the meeting.

5 All In War (Bet Now: $2.90) is a little query at a strong 1050m, but it’s a tricky race with a host of chances. Ran over 1000m at Murray Bridge three weeks ago and looked all over a winner when she hit the front, but was nabbed near the peg by Fabulous Flipper. Better for the run. Just hope she can get a suck run behind the speed to allow her every chance to see out the 1050m.

1 Pal’s Reward (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to have found a nice race. Kym Hann doesn’t often come to SA but when the stable does, they rarely leave empty handed. Just found the 1100m a bridge too far at Ararat last time but was game in defeat. Should land in front and give a stack of cheek.

Hard to get away from 3 Insaaf (Bet Now: $2.35). Took a little while to break the maiden tag but she did it in emphatic fashion at Kilmore last time out, sitting on speed before being clicked up down the hill into the straight and she raced away. This race, as a whole, is weak, and this looks lovely placement.

1 Bolt By (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing like he will love the rise in trip. Not sure he beat much when breaking his maiden two weeks ago over 1200m at Murray Bridge, but there was a bit of quality about the way he put them away and really drew clear late. Off that, this trip will be fine and is hard to beat.

Back in trip I don’t like for 8 Right Turn (Bet Now: $101.00) but if they overdo it in front, he could surprise at big odds. He does look better placed at Port Lincoln but overall, this race isn’t strong and his last start effort wasn’t too bad from off the speed. Highly doubt he wins, but one for exotics I’d say.

A potential All Star Mile prep kicks off here for 1 Behemoth (Bet Now: $1.50) and he should kick it off with a win. 1200m is short of his best, but he does look to have a fair bit on these in terms of class/quality, as we saw early on last prep before going to Melbourne and winning a couple of majors. Bad luck and/or bias the only thing beating him.

2 Kemalpasa (Bet Now: $2.90) is the only horse I can see beating Behemoth given he has residual fitness and is more a 1200m horse than the hot pot. He ended his Spring on a fab note, winning on Derby Day before getting the job done in the Kevin Heffernan. Liked his recent jumpout win here, he’ll land on speed and prove hard to get past.

4 Mystyko (Bet Now: $16.00) can sneak a first four spot. He was outstanding when winning at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. Wide with cover for the most part before peeling wider and he was the Mystyko of old. He spanked them and ran really good time. Go back this time last year, he was beaten five lengths in an Oakleigh Plate, so he has quality when right.

Hard to get away from the Phillip Stokes trained gelding 2 Taken Off (Bet Now: $2.45). There was a bit of class and arrogance about his win at Gawler four weeks ago. He showed more intent from the barriers to sit near the front of the pack in chasing the tearaway leader. He ambled up to that horse and then drew right away late for a most impressive win. He’ll go on with it now.

1 Evening Glory (Bet Now: $2.80) is four weeks between runs for the Freedman camp since winning at Caulfield. Put into a lovely spot by Jamie Kah and rode to beat the key threat Housay, keeping him in a pocket before booting clear and holding on. Draws tricky, but has the right form around him.

8 Tycoon Street (Bet Now: $41.00) deserves another chance here with weight relief. Former Kris Lees mare that had her first run for Grant Young a few weeks at Gawler when back off a fast speed and failed to come on behind Street Life. Back to a 72 and back in overall depth, she can bounce back for sure.

3 Safin (Bet Now: $8.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge. He hasn’t won in a fair while, but he nearly should have won last Saturday. Just didn’t get the rub of the green in wanting to get clear early and had to settle for a luckless fourth. Gets the 3kg claim for an in form Metcalfe and finds a weaker race.

6 Black Syrah (Bet Now: $3.60) should love the rise to the mile. Was a month between runs and back to 1400m from 2000m when racing at Murray Bridge a fortnight ago and closed off with real purpose late behind Hankstar, who won again last Saturday to tick the form off. Fitter and up to the mile, very likeable.

2 Charossa (Bet Now: $8.00) is certainly capable of figuring in the finish despite coming into this off a mini freshen up. Seven weeks between runs since racing over 2500m at Flemington where he found the trip at that level a bit much behind Miyake, but the form out of it has been solid. Has class and back home, is a threat.

5 The Sidekick (Bet Now: $7.50) looks in for a good prep and given the lack of depth engaged here, think he’s hard to beat. Resumed over an unsuitable trip at Murray Bridge and was run off his legs early but loved the way he closed off late in the race. Can sit closer in the run this time around and has more upside than most.

7 Flying Pierro (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing quite well for the Jolly camp and has to be respected here. Was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1700m at Penola last time out. Got back to near last in the run before peeling wider and launching, hitting the front but was nabbed late. Racing in good form and is hard to beat.

4 Dreamed (Bet Now: $17.00) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake, but she can be quite inconsistent at times. Ran over the mile at Murray Bridge three weeks ago and simply couldn’t get involved in the race behind Unlaced in a disappointing. Her best is capable of figuring in the finish.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 5 The Sidekick
