Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville this Saturday where it is Lord Reims Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:56) Terry Howe Printing Handicap (70) 2000m

Back Me

Looks lovely placement by Kav here with 7 Octuplets (Bet Now: $8.00). This mare has had two runs back, both over unsuitable trips, and each time she has worked home with real purpose and has been an eye catcher. Down in the weights, has plenty of upside, not much depth here and up to 2000m is a big tick.

2 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained son of Rebel Raider who is going really well at the moment. Won well two back over 1800m here before racing at this track/distance where he did a bit of work on speed and that took a toll on him late when second to Dangle Lad, beaten over two lengths. If he can get a more economical run here, he should prove a tough commodity.

Long Shot

4 Lieder (Bet Now: $19.00) is three weeks between runs for the Michael Hickmott camp after racing over the 1550m on the Parks track where he sat last in the run and just stayed there behind Star Fortune but it was an afternoon where making up ground from the back was hard to do. Hard to trust, but on his best form, he’s right up to these.

Race 2. (13:31) Happy Birthday Joshua "Nugget" Hall Handicap (80) 1200m

Back Me

7 Alaskan Jade (Bet Now: $5.00) hasn’t won for a long time but gee she finds a winnable race. Is on a run of six straight placings, so she is running really well. Just can’t crack it for a win. Looked the winner a fortnight back over 1100m here but found Tempting Faith too good. I think she’ll take some beating here up to 1200m.

3 Miss Identified (Bet Now: $3.50) is well liked by experts and in the market. Travis Doudle trains this mare, who is three weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track where she closed off really well late behind Blue Tycoon, who franked the form by winning again last Saturday. Not as well suited on the course proper, and draws tricky, but has the form on the board.

Long Shot

6 Joy Flipper (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Brian Mueller trained mare who is racing in near career best form at the moment. She is three weeks between runs since racing over the 1300m on the Parks track where she ran along on speed and gave those behind her every chance to run her down but she kept finding and proved too good. Back to 1200m ideal, maps super and will prove hard to run down.

Race 3. (14:06) Medallion Homes Handicap (90) 1100m

Back Me

7 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $4.60) gets the nod for me. Francis/Kent trained mare that hasn’t raced for four weeks since racing at this track/distance when finishing just behind Counter Pulse in a real blanket go to the line. Tends to go well fresh and she loves racing here, plus will be suited by a genuine tempo.

2 Sullivan Bay (Bet Now: $3.90) could be the knockout chance at odds here. This girl was a drifter in betting when resuming on the Parks track three weeks back and she tried hard but her condition just gave way late when a close up fourth to Itz Invincible. She is a bomb when produced second up and for mine will be better suited on the course proper.

Long Shot

Knockout chance appears to be the veteran 1 Riziz (Bet Now: $6.50), who ran an absolute howler over 1200m here a fortnight back. Had to lump the weight but he gave in quite quickly, which isn’t the norm for this tough campaigner. Beautifully in at the weights after the claim for Huxtable, and on his best form, he’s right in this.

Race 4. (14:41) UBET Cinderella Stakes 1100m

Back Me

3 Black Champagne (Bet Now: $4.80) for me. Tony McEvoy trains this filly, who debuted at Murray Bridge over 900m and as to what she beat, I’m not sure, but she won by an ever widening six lengths and could have won by more had Holder really asked. Looks an exciting prospect and I’ll be shocked if she didn’t measure up.

2 Downloads (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained filly who has shown promise in two career outings to date. Really good run in the Blue Diamond preview behind Lady Horseowner before going to the Prelude where she raced a touch flat behind Enbihaar. I think if you on the debut run, she’s right in the game.

Long Shot

4 Krone (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Eurozone filly for the Darren Weir camp who debuted with a good second to Vienesse Star at the Valley before going to Bendigo where she took forever to wind up and to the eye was a touch disappointing behind Casadiva. Going on the debut effort, she looks talented so I’ll give her another chance.

Race 5. (15:21) Schweppes Handicap (70) 1100m

Back Me

4 Institution (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Nicconi gelding for the Lloyd Kennewell team who is five weeks between runs since winning the maiden over 1000m on the Parks track. The margin was narrow, but I thought it was a pretty good win considering, in my opinion, that 1000m is short of his best trip. We saw two back behind Scarecrow that he was running on at the end of 1100m, so that trip here should be ideal.

5 Port Vale (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Master Of Design gelding for Stuart Gower who has been strong in two runs back from a spell. Worked home with purpose fresh behind Avanti Rose before dropping back to maiden grade where he was ridden arrogantly by Owen Ridge and won accordingly. He is a winning chance for sure.

Long Shot

10 Sparrows (Bet Now: $11.00) is a quality filly that resumes for the Phillip Stokes yard. This girl had a four run Spring prep, with her best effort coming fresh when leading through over 1100m in a Gawler maiden. Has promised a fair bit throughout career so I think this campaign will tell us if she’s a contender or pretender. Lovely trial win suggests she has come back well.

Race 6. (16:01) Hughes Limousines Handicap (70) 1050m

Back Me

8 Swiss Design (Bet Now: $5.50) on top for me in a very tough race. This bloke is six weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track where he got a mile back off the speed and he couldn’t come on at all behind Mile High. Mind you, it was tough to make ground that day so he gets a forgive. Goes really well on the fresh side and hopefully he won’t be spotting them a huge start.

6 Vicki’s Boy (Bet Now: $8.50) has burned far too many holes in my pockets so I couldn’t back him to win at all but if he did win, apart from being filthy, I wouldn’t be surprised, because the talent is clearly under the hood. Has been given a little freshen up, draws a lovely gate and gets Holder on. Ticks a few boxes.

Long Shot

5 Tempting Faith (Bet Now: $8.00) is an Alex Stra trained mare who had been bursting to win a race for some time and she finally got the win here a fortnight back, and the punters knew because they backed her late, getting the reward as she outgunned the very promising Won Ball. Think that’s very good form for this.

Race 7. (16:41) Lord Reims Stakes 2600m

Back Me

3 Exalted Lightning (Bet Now: $6.00) has been very good to me this prep and I have to side with him. Grant Young has done a wonderful job with this horse, taking him from a battling benchmark horse to now being one of the better local hopes in the Adelaide Cup. Outstanding win last time out in the Birthday Cup under Todd Pannell and won with a touch of dominance. Has failed once at this distance range before but is a better horse now.

1 Benzini (Bet Now: $7.00) is the class runner of the field and has to be respected. Only have to go back 14 months and this horse finished just behind the placegetters in the Hong Kong International Vase. World class form. Forgive last start at Riccarton. Short of his ideal trip and was near the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be. Class will carry him a long way.

Long Shot

With clear, 7 Majestic Moment (Bet Now: $27.00) goes very close. Had his first run for the grant Young team over 2400m on the Parks track a couple of Wednesdays back where he was absolutely slapped in betting but if you were on, it was a hard watch. Got badly held up behind runners while stablemate and eventual winner Casiraghi had all the momentum and proved too good. Confident he can measure up, provided he has clear air.

Race 8. (17:21) Richard & Sue Dahl Handicap (70) 1200m

Back Me

7 Exalted Adam (Bet Now: $3.70) has done an outstanding job so far this time in for the Grant Young and I think he can win a city race here. Heavily backed last time out at Strathalbyn and it looked as if he’d be a hard luck story for a few strides but once Jamie Kah got him clear air, it was game over and he won quite impressively. Confident he can run well and go close to winning.

Look for an improved showing from 3 Abu Dhabi (Bet Now: $10.00). He hasn’t raced since resuming on January 20 on the Parks track where he got just off the pace in the run and stuck on well when a close up fifth to Battlecamp. He absolutely flies second up, likes the course proper and is a winner at the track/distance.

Long Shot

2 Trupt (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Ryan Balfour mare who is six weeks between runs since racing over 1300m on the Parks track where she settled near last in the small field and couldn’t come on at all behind Miss Wahoo, who was close up in the Angus Armanasco, so that form reads well for this, and I think fresh back to 1200m suits.

Race 9. (18:00) James Boags Premium Handicap (75) 1600m

Back Me

15 Double Pockets (Bet Now: $31.00) is on the seven day back up for the Sue Nolan team after racing over 1400m on the Parks track last Saturday where he got a mile back in the run and for a few strides looked disinterested but he picked up and I thought he was sound late behind Savatag. Hard one to trust at times, but I reckon up to the mile he could surprise.

9 Dajtari (Bet Now: $3.90) is a lightly raced son of Zeditave for the Dennis O’Leary camp who was backed late when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back and under a lovely ride from Jordan Turner, the gelding chased hard to grab a narrow but impressive win. Claim for Raquel Clark is a big tick, draws well again and has now had the two hard mile runs under the belt.

Long Shot

3 Honey Steel’s Gold (Bet Now: $19.00) is gearing up for the jumps season but gee I thought he ran well first up at the 1550m on the Parks track behind Star Fortune. Never really looked likely and the odds reflected that but he stuck on and was good to the line and through it. Doubt he has the speed to win, but I think he is a must for exotics.
