3/2/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

The course proper at Morphettville is where Adelaide racing takes place this Saturday, with really good depth right across the board. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.

1 Belfast (Bet Now: $1.80) looks one of the more interesting runners on the program for mine. Busutti/Young trains this three year old and I say interesting because he could well measure up to blacktype company if he keeps naturally progressing. He bolted up against the older horses last time out at Pakenham and won very impressively. This is an ask, but I think he can handle it.

4 Pearl Raider (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained filly who had been bursting to win the maiden for some time and it finally came last start over 1500m at Gawler where she spaced them by over five lengths and ran really good time relative to the meeting. Now her confidence is up, she could potentially go on with it.

3 Antipas (Bet Now: $8.00) had trialled up okay prior to resuming at Gawler (Metro) three weeks back where he didn’t quite let down on the soft track and was just fair without setting the world on fire behind Modulate. Think he will be much better suited on firmer footing. Highly doubt he wins, but he can run a place.

3 Scratchy Lass (Bet Now: $5.50) has been somewhat of a cash cow for me during her purple patch and I have to be solid with her here. A surprise drifter in betting a fortnight back on the Parks track yet she charged home from the back to overhaul them and win impressively. Mile on the course proper looks perfect and should take some beating.

5 Galaxy Gazer (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the seven day turnaround for the Macdonald/Gluyas team after racing over 1400m on the Parks track last Saturday where he had a sweet sit just off the pace and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite go on with it when fourth to the low flying Lord Topper. Won his lone start at the mile so the step up should suit.

4 Dances On Stars (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Grant Young who really has his team firing at the moment. This bloke ran at Murray Bridge last Thursday where he was a drifter in betting but he kept finding under Pannell and in the end he was the strongest on the line in winning. The 1600m looks no trouble and he gets down in the weights.

1 Chicago Typewriter (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Phillip Stokes trained youngster who debuted with a strong win at Gawler (Metro) before racing on the Parks track where he attempted to lead all the way again and gave a good kick but no match late for Enbihaar. Looks to get a good run near the speed and does have the race experience

2 More Than Exceed (Bet Now: $2.40) is a More Than Ready colt first up for the Stokes team. This bloke ran in the first two year old race of the SA racing season back in October where he was second to Crockett, who of course went on to be very competitive in better races. Resumes without a trial but only has to repeat that effort to go close.

7 Another Whisper (Bet Now: $8.00) is an Akeed Mofeed filly on debut for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This girl has looked pretty good at the jump outs and again, the stable come to Adelaide with a first starter with Cory Parish steering, a combination that has been successful in recent times in South Australia. definite market watch.

Class should get 3 Eclair Sunshine (Bet Now: $2.90) home. He was tested out as a Caulfield Guineas horse in the Spring but just did too much wrong to be at that top level. Finds a lovely race to resume in, and really, on his form, he should bolt in. Interesting to note he hasn’t had a trial/jump out publicly so fitness levels are unknown.

1 Plutocracy (Bet Now: $2.40) is a talented son of Sebring that resumes for the Hayes/Dabernig team. This bloke was tested out against the elite three year olds in the Spring and just didn’t measure up at all. Tipped out, been given a really good break, has trialled up well, and always respect the stable runners in Adelaide, especially when Cory Parish steers.

6 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now: $7.50) comes through the race won by Avanti Rose two weeks ago. He was hard in the market off an electric maiden win first up but he just got a mile out of his ground in the run, plus did work and tired late to finish down the track. He is clearly much better than that, so give him another look here.

4 Benz (Bet Now: $2.40) looks the logical option here. Gordon Richards trains this gelding who was hard in the market when resuming down the straight at Flemington and to my eye he was just fair in defeat behind Ken’s Dream but in saying that, the race had far more depth than what he faces here. Has class, and trialled up beautifully here on Monday.

6 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $6.00) is bursting to win a race and he returns to his favourite track so a forward showing is anticipated. Looked home last time out at Gawler but Go The Journey just packed too many when it counted. Should get a lovely run just off the pace and he will be strong late. Key threat for sure.

7 One More Daisy (Bet Now: $13.00) will love this scenario and for mine is a definite knockout hope. Just got too far back last time out over the 1000m on the Parks track but worked home nicely late in the piece behind the heavily backed Mile High. Up to 1200m a tick, tick for the return to the course proper and she gets weight relief.

6 Sang Choi Bao (Bet Now: $6.00) is a hot and cold horse for the Darren Weir team who looks so good one day, awful the next. Thought his last start fourth at Ballarat was more than encouraging to my eye when getting back and slightly held up when beaten a length by Del Piero. Look for him to be savaging the line late.

2 Del Piero (Bet Now: $8.00) is a ripper for the Jarrod McLean team. Six time winner from 25 outings who is a last start victor at Ballarat in the race mentioned above, with a sweet ride from Huxtable being a large factor as to why he got the job done. Fast run 1100m looks an ideal recipe for success once again.

9 Midnight Storm (Bet Now: $6.00) is a handy son of Clangalang for the Jim Smith team who was game in defeat last time out on the Parks track over 1000m when fourth to Mile High after doing a fair bit of work in the run with the weight and from the wide barrier. If the breaks go his way here, he can threaten for sure.

1 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $12.00) for me. This bloke is racing so well at the moment for the John Hickmott team. He ran over the 1950m on the Parks track a fortnight back where Fawke gave him a lovely ride but just no match for the low flying Exalted Lightning. I think back to 1800m is no issue and he should get a lovely run from the gate.

7 Cobber (Bet Now: $12.00) had been tagged as a non winner for a long time but he has been much better this time in, winning three races, including last time out over 1700m at Gawler (Metro) when ridden an absolute treat by Jake Toeroek. Yet to win in six attempts here, but he is racing well enough to change that in a tough race.

5 Sagaab (Bet Now: $8.50) is a ripper for the Todd Balfour camp and has to be respected here. Was a slight drifter in betting when racing over 1700m at Gawler a coupleof Sundays back and with some help from a lovely ride from Todd Pannell, he proved far too good for his rivals. Win at the mile here three back was a ripper so he can measure up.

4 Regal Spur (Bet Now: $3.20) gets the nod for me. Former Ryan Balfour runner that debuted for the McEvoy camp on Boxing Day over 1050m here and I thought his effort from the back behind Big Effort was pretty solid. Never looked like winning and did a bit wrong in the straight but his effort was more than sound. He is a winner second up and does tend to race best on the fresh side.

7 Baker’s Dozen (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Will Clarken trained mare who has threatened big time to win a race or two this time in but she keeps finding one or two better. Looked the winner a fortnight back over 1400m on the Parks track but had to settle for third to Lord Topper, who won last Saturday, so the form has held up, and I think back to 1200m will really suit.

5 Just A Bigger Dash (Bet Now: $9.00) could represent value here. He was heavily backed when racing over 1200m at Gawler last time out and to my eye he seemingly had his chance when third to proven city performer Zalmona, but perhaps racing on the rail inside horses isn’t his go. Clutching at straws, but he is better than that and I’m willing to give him a look.
