A nine race card has been assembled for Doomben this Saturday. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out half a metre for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:32) Sky Thoroughbred Central Handicap 1050m
Going with 6 Accomplish (Bet Now: $3.60) in the opener. Michael Nolan trains this juvenile, who debuted all the way back in Toowoomba on his home track when finishing a game second to Hopes Eternal, who has gone on to be blacktype performed and a proven city class horse. On breeding, he should lap up this rain affected track. Happy to be in his corner.
Have to respect the serious coin that has come for 2 Pinch Memory (Bet Now: $3.10). Off his trial back in early January at Deagon, I thought it was good without jumping up and down, but clearly somebody in the know is keen on him. The race has been marred by scratchings, so he has to be rated highly for sure.
7 Cossie (Bet Now: $51.00) comes through the Desert Digby race at the Gold Coast. He was unwanted in betting but despite the market drift, he stuck to the task really well in defeat, eventually running third, beaten 2.5L. Does need to improve a bit to turn the tables, but draws okay and gets a senior rider on now.
Race 2. (14:07) Girls Day Out Raceday Handicap (80) 2000m
1 Exoteric (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Chris Waller trained stayer who had rally good market support when resuming at the Gold Coast last Wednesday and with some help from Robbie Fradd, he lifted the import late to nab Queen Of Wands right on the peg. The rise to 2000m looks ideal and he has a stack of upside.
5 Expertea (Bet Now: $2.60) is a mare in really good form at the moment for the Chris Munce team. She ran over 2200m at Doomben a fortnight back where she was dominant in winning, sitting on speed most of the way and holding on for a two length win. Clearly more depth here, but while she is in this kind of form, why can’t she win?
9 I Feel Good (Bet Now: $41.00) looks a definite knockout chance at the odds. Really liked his run two back behind Kubis at the Sunny Coast before going to Gatton where he got a mile back in the run and couldn’t come on, and I don’t think Gatton suited him at all. Better suited on the bigger track and tumbles 8kg in weight.
Race 3. (14:42) Hastings Deering Handicap (70) 1600m
If 15 Maybe Even You (Bet Now: $1.85) can tick the wet track box, I think she just about beats these. fab win last time out at this track/distance when given an absolute peach from Robbie Fradd and savaging the line with real purpose to get the job done. Saying she has to tick the wet track box, If you look at her wet track form, she has run well in quality races.
8 Wack’em (Bet Now: $15.00) looks a definite winning chance at the odds. He was solid in betting when racing over 1400m at the Gold Coast last time out where I thought Shannon Doyle gave the horse every chance and he loomed large to win but had to settle for second to Awake The Stars. He has plenty of talent but upstairs is the issue. If he puts it all together, he can certainly win.
19 Mysterium (Bet Now: $18.00) in terms of winning, is a bludger, but when it comes to effort, you can’t begrudge him. He did try his heart out last start at the Sunny Coast when attempting to lead all the way but was beaten a lip by Hidden Gold. Not sure leading is his go, but against this lot, on speed might not be such a bad thing.
Race 4. (15:17) Civforce Pipelaying Handicap 1350m
5 Real Kaos (Bet Now: $12.00) gets the nod for me. Real Saga colt for the Toby Edmonds yard who has had two career outings, both at Ipswich over 1100m and 1200m respectively. Showed a good turn of foot to win on debut before racing over 1200m and getting not much room between runners when fifth to Absolutlypositivly. 1350m on the big track suits and he does look to have ability.
8 Susurri (Bet Now: $4.50) comes through the Bat A Kat race here two weeks ago. This Barry Lockwood trained filly got a fair way back of them in the run but you had to liker her finale, though no match for the winner, who looks a potential Winter Carnival contender. That form does read well for this. Just hopefully doesn’t give away too much start.
4 Trommelschlagen (Bet Now: $11.00) was hard in the market when attempting to lead all the way at this track/distance a fortnight back. Just thought he overdid it a touch on speed and felt the pinch late when fourth to Bat A Kat. I think he’ll be much better when ridden with cover, and if that eventuates, he can bounce back hard.
Race 5. (15:57) Daniel Bullimore Handicap 1200m
I think with the senior jock on, as well as a wet track, I’m willing to give 2 Stella Ombra (Bet Now: $3.60) another chance. Was very disappointed with his effort here a fortnight back because on paper, he looked a good thing, but the money came hard for Bullpit (2nd) while Stella Ombra blew out big time and ran accordingly. Scenario looks much better here with D Browne on.
6 Tisani Tomso (Bet Now: $6.00) is a noted wet track galloper who gets conditions to suit here. He ran over the 1050m here a fortnight back where he settled a fair way off the speed in what was a slowly run affair and he really had no hope but his finale was excellent. Up to 1200m is perfect and he draws to sit much closer in the run.
The watch horse is definitely 4 Dream Finnish (Bet Now: $8.00), a talented mare that is first up for the Michael Nolan team. This mare is better suited over 1600m+, but she does have a sharp fresh record and produced a brilliant finale to win first up last prep in a solid sprint race at Ipswich (Metro). Market/yard will be the guide.
Race 6. (16:37) Alliance Airlines Handicap (0MW) 1110m
6 Tversky (Bet Now: $1.80) for me here. Gary Duncan trains this sprinter, who is two for two this time in, bolting up fresh on a bog at Ipswich before racing on his home track at the Sunshine Coast where he started Winx odds and won about as easily as her, beating Muddy Rope, who won last weekend, so that form does read well.
Pretty keen to see 16 Amenzel (Bet Now: $9.50) for the in form Les Kelly team. The stable has been fabulous in the first half of the season, with this horse being one of the star performers. He has won two on the bounce, both coming over 1200m at the Gold Coast. Each time he has had to dig deep but in the end he drew clear. Back to 1110m, a hard 1110m, will be perfect.
7 Zendaye (Bet Now: $8.50) is a nippy customer for the Desleigh Forster team who is three weeks between runs since racing over the 1100m at Ipswich where he ran along on speed and kicked strongly but couldn’t quite see it out when third to Well Sighted. 1110m at Doomben suits and he’ll give you a sight. Last 50m will be the test.
Race 7. (17:17) Brent Kielly Memorial Plate (Class 3) 1350m
2 Mustarrid (Bet Now: $23.00) on top in a very tough race. Stayer that resumed on his home track at Toowoomba for Ben Currie a tick over two weeks back where I thought he stuck on well in defeat behind stablemate Kuttuamurra Al. He can pull out a decent run second, this isn’t a strong race and both stable and rider are in a real purple patch.
1 Last Armageddon (Bet Now: $17.00) is a horse that is low flying at the moment for the Lindsay hatch team. He last raced on January 14 over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast where he looked a good thing on paper and that is how it panned out with Stewart riding him aggressively and duly saluting. Should get a lovely run from the gate and the claim is a big tick.
10 Beaudacious (Bet Now: $26.00) is the x factor here. Excellent run two back over this track/distance behind Bettabet Red before racing over the 1400m at the Gold Coast and running a shocker behind Awake The Stars. Her best form would see her go close to winning this. Just a matter of which version of Beaudacious turns up.
Race 8. (17:55) Icon Group Handicap 1600m
2 Torgersen (Bet Now: $2.35), with normal luck, should be winning this. Had no right to get as close as he did in the Sunshine Coast Cup given how far back he was in the run but he made up a tremendous amount of ground to run a close up fifth. He has the right form around him. Just has to hold it to be beating these.
4 Brazen Moss (Bet Now: $3.80) has been going okay this time in for the Tony Gollan camp but for the first time in a while, he gets a wet track and finds a winnable race. Made up a stack of ground last week in the Sunshine Coast when fourth to Most Important, beating home Torgersen. Actually meets Torgersen 2.5kg better off for beating him. Just has to overcome the tricky gate.
He’s done absolutely nothing for a long time, but with a rain affected surface, don’t be surprised to see 9 Bodega Negra (Bet Now: $61.00) improve. Hasn’t raced since December 22 in the Christmas Cup at Lismore when last behind Dance Of Heroes. Saves his best for wet tracks and he loves racing at Doomben.
Race 9. (18:35) Intega Advisory Handicap (85) 1350m
Taking a punt on 17 Viaductress (Bet Now: $9.50) in the get out. Michael Costa trains this mare, who last raced a fortnight back over 1200m at the Gold Coast where she should have nearly won the race but got badly held up late when bolting for a run. Has performed well on rain affected ground before and she was scratched from a thin race last night to be saved for this.
2 Oink (Bet Now: $2.50) is a talented four year old for the Kelly Schweida yard who was just fair when resuming at the Gold Coast behind Perfect dare. He then ran over 1200m here a fortnight back and loomed to win but had no answers to the booming finishing burst from Of The Day. 1350m looks ideal and he is near hard fit.
5 Time To Torque (Bet Now: $6.50) will love the step up to 1350m on the bigger track. He ran over 1350m at Ipswich last time out where I thought Rolls gave the gelding every chance but he just couldn’t quite get past Dreams Aplenty on the line. That was his first run in six weeks, so there should be room to improve.
