Adelaide metro racing this Saturday returns to the Parks track at Morphettville for an eight race card. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (14:07) UBET Handicap (70) 1000m
2 Heaven’s Deal (Bet Now: $3.30) for me. Daughter of Spirit Of Boom for the Jolly stable who kicked off her career with a couple of sharp wins, the second win being a blacktype success, before pulling up lame behind Tequila time. Ran sharp time in winning a trial here a couple of weeks back and looked to do it quite nicely.
3 Thine Is The Power (Bet Now: $2.60) is a Hayes/Dabernig trained filly who gave them a spanking over the 1050m on the course proper two back before stepping up in the Cap D’Antibes and being outclassed by Smart Melody. This looks her right level and Jamie Kah is back on. How much upside is left is the query and I think the market will tell you.
5 Black Champagne (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Tony McEvoy trained filly resuming. Had three runs in the Autumn to kick off her career, where she won on debut at Murray Bridge before not being far away in a couple of blacktype events, and then was tipped out. Trialled alongside Heaven’s Deal and looked pretty good to the eye. Market will be the guide.
Race 2. (14:42) Thirsty Camel Handicap (70) 1400m
1 Holy Command (Bet Now: $1.90) appears to be the one to beat. Mick Price trains this four year old, who attempted to lead all the way at this track/distance and gave a really good kick under Dom Tourneur but just found stablemate Heptagon too good on the day. I’d prefer to see him ridden with a sit but the way the track has been playing lately, might have to be on speed again. Either way, he’s the one for me.
The resumption of 2 Daktari (Bet Now: $10.00) over 1250m here in mid August was a ripper when second to Balwarra Gold, his first run since April, and the effort had more merit given post race he pulled up with stress and Cardiac Arrhythmia. Been given a freshen up and looked to move quite well to my eye in a recent trial.
Third up, 5 Ace Attack (Bet Now: $31.00) should just about be ready to show her best. Has only beaten one runner home in two runs this time in, but both races have clearly not suited him, with fitness being the issue. I think he might need one more, but does get a soft gate this time around and the claim helps.
Race 3. (15:17) Flashdance Handicap (86) 1250m
Happy to be with 3 Port Vale (Bet Now: $3.50). He resumed with a brilliant win over 1050m on the course proper here prior to going to the McEwen at the Valley where he was run off his legs in track record time won by Nature Strip. This looks more his go, clearly, and he does have a really good record on the Parks track.
2 Counter Pulse (Bet Now: $4.60) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained gelding who had a poor post race recovery first up behind Princess Of Queens before going to the Whylie last Saturday where he was far from disgraced behind Holy Blade. Like he’s on the quick turnaround and he does save his best for the Parks circuit.
7 Magic Boy (Bet Now: $8.00) is a son of Magic Albert resuming for the Will Clarken team. This horse is a city class horse for sure if he’s right but he hasn’t been that way for a couple of years now. But he’s with Will Clarken and we know this guy can turn around a bludger of an animal. Good record here so I’d keep tabs on the market.
Race 4. (15:57) Medallion Homes Handicap (82) 2250m
This looks a perfect race for the Darren Weir trained 4 Azuro (Bet Now: $6.00). The stable has this bloke flying I think but he’s just had not much luck at his past couple, most notably last time at Bendigo when badly held up, seemingly with plenty to offer, when fifth to stablemate Steel Prince. Better luck this time and he’ll take some beating.
9 Tropical Lightning (Bet Now: $4.60) is a son of Barbados for Travis Doudle who is definitely nearing a win. Just not sure if it’s here though. Ran over 2400m here a fortnight back where he tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to impressive winner Haripour. I reckon back to 2250m will suit and is jut about hard fit.
8 Duquessa (Bet Now: $31.00) could be a sleeper at odds. She comes through the Haripour race where she got a mile back off the speed and was never really in the hunt but I thought she worked home with real purpose late in an eye catching effort. Back in trip the slight niggle but if they overdo it on speed, she’ll be strong late.
Race 5. (16:37) AAMI Spring Carnival Handicap (82) 1550m
3 Modulate (Bet Now: $9.00) drops a fair bit in depth after contesting the Balaklava Cup last time. He seemingly had his chance behind Temps Voleur but bear in mind the bias towards leaders that day was extreme so he did a good job under the circumstances. Saves his best for this track and looks well placed to bounce back.
1 Heptagon (Bet Now: $2.40) does look the most obvious but I wouldn’t want to be taking anything silly short. Looked a moral when winning over 1400m here two weeks back and did get the job done, but I think it was more a case of the stablemate Holy Command stopping more than Heptagon surging. Don’t get me wrong, very likeable, can win of course…just think he might be too short to be a betting proposition.
Happy to include the talented galloper 2 Hussybay (Bet Now: $7.50). Resumed over 1250m here a fortnight back where the bias was against him but I thought he worked home well enough behind Vieira, second being Tamasa. That form does read well, up to 1550m a big tick and does have a tidy second up record.
Race 6. (17:17) Twilight Races Handicap (70) 1000m
11 Atomic Lokade (Bet Now: $6.00) looks to be racing quite well for Grant Kluske. Ran over 1000m last time at Midarie-Halidon where she was a notable drifter in betting after opening odds on but gee I loved the way she finished her race off late to grab victory in the last couple of strides. Can see a stack of speed here, and she should get a suck run along the inside, and with only 52.5kg on her back, she’s likeable.
3 French Rock (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Francis/Kent trained gelding who was confidently backed when resuming at this track/distance two weeks ago and the bets were landed big time. He had the suck run behind the speed and once he popped into clear, it was game over and he bolted in. Just has to repeat the dose to go close.
If they go crazy in front, don’t be surprised to see 5 Lockdown Jack (Bet Now: $14.00) flashing late. Resumed in the race won by French Rock and I thought he did a pretty good job given he was disinterested early and detached from the field. Worked home strongly to finish midfield. He’ll give them a start and launch at the end.
Race 7. (17:55) Romeo's Family Race Day Handicap (64) 1250m
12 It’s A Myth (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Phillip Stokes trained mare who had trialled well at Gawler prior to resuming over 1200m there where Kayla Crowther made an early call to come to the outside rail in the straight. Don’t think it would have mattered because she was just far too good for them. Ran well in town last prep so she can measure up.
6 Mr Hamilton (Bet Now: $6.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Victorian that is making his SA debut for Will Clarken. Showed really good promise when trained in Victoria, but he wanted to do a few things wrong in the run and was all still new to the caper. No trials, but early market support suggests he’s ready to go.
5 Love Club (Bet Now: $12.00) is a beauty for Jon O’Connor who is rarely far away from the action. Ran over 1200m on Balaklava Cup last time and stuck to his guns nicely in defeat behind Midnight Storm on a day where those on speed were seriously advantaged. Should get run of the race stuff from gate one and the claim for Chan is a tick.
