Nine races will be run and won at Belmont this Saturday where it is Belmont Sprint Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:02) MRS MAC'S PLATE 1200m
1 Ain’t No Other Man (Bet Now:Β $2.05) on top. Team Casey trained juvenile that is putting together a really strong record. Had the cold sit behind the speed a fortnight back at Ascot and once he got the inside split, it was race over. Just has to hold his form and he will take a power of beating once again.
2 Rommel’s Command (Bet Now:Β $4.50) will put himself near the speed and give his all. Attempted to lead throughout two weeks ago at Ascot and gave a pretty solid kick j der Parnham. Just couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for third. With harnessing if his energy, he will be stronger at the end.
6 Yes Man (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is a son of Dissident that is on debut. He has had two trials to get ready for start one. The first one in November was plain. Spelled, trialled recently and went much better when placing. Not sure he can win this on debut but I’d include in multiples.
Race 2. (14:42) FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PK-BM62+ 1200m
6 Graceful Girl (Bet Now:Β $2.00) does look the one to beat. Team Williams trained filly that resumed over 1100m at Ascot. It was an ugly watch if you were on. Held up badly when full of running. Got out but too late when second to Hot Zed. Bigger track, fitter, she’s the one for me.
1 Hot Zed (Bet Now:Β $3.80) is an absolute beauty. He is such an honest horse that gets himself into the right spot near the speed, he relaxes and when he needs to fight, he does. Creeping up in the weights now but when he does rise in weight, he has handled it previously.
2 Queen Brown (Bet Now:Β $9.00) should appreciate the rise in trip for Dan Morton. Talented filly that has been solid in two runs back from a break over unsuitable trips, the latest over 1100m. Her best is more than good enough and third up from a break, she should be at peak fitness.
Race 3. (15:22) TABTOUCH-WESTSPEED PLAT.-RS0MW 1200m
Pretty keen here on 6 Snippy Miss (Bet Now:Β $3.90) for the Durrant camp. Resumed over 1100m two weeks ago at Ascot. Loved the way she closed off from the back when second to Dew West, who was given a 12/10 by Pike. She will take good improvement from that and is hard to beat against this lot.
2 Ohbeeh (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is a Jim Taylor trained gelding that resumes. Had a two run Summer prep and didn’t really fire a shot so the stable pulled the pin and sent him to the paddock. Looks to have to trialled well leading in and his best is definitely good enough to run well here.
8 Flying Target (Bet Now:Β $81.00) is a middle distance made that resumes and I think she can sneak a first four spot at a price. She is best suited over further than 1200m but can pull out a decent run fresh and as a whole, this isn’t the strongest race going around, so I’d include her in wider exotics.
Race 4. (16:02) AMELIA PARK LODGE (RS1MW) 1000m
6 Devoted Star (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a mare who races best when she has fresh legs and she is first up here so she is on top. Talented mare when right but she does seem to be hard to catch. But, first up is the key to her. Peak figures have come fresh so now is the time to strike and her recent trial suggests she’s ready to go.
Interesting that 9 Mercanto (Bet Now:Β $8.50) comes back to 1000m. He’s a handy three year old for the Gangemi team that has been racing well without winning, his latest effort coming over 1100m when back off the speed and didn’t really threaten, but was far from disgraced. Best is good enough.
4 City Circle (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is a handy mare for Neville Parnham that is honest. Her problem is that she has such an awful record at Belmont compared to Ascot, so that is the negative with her, but she will put herself on speed and she is such an honest customer. One for exotics.
Race 5. (16:45) SCHWEPPES (BM66+) 2100m
11 Blackwater Bay (Bet Now:Β $3.90) is an Adam Durrant trained stayer that has been up a food while but continues to race in such good form. Absolute peach from CJP to win at Albany last time. Could have come wide but he stayed inside, the gaps appeared, didn’t go around a horse and was dominant. He can measure up here for sure.
6 Born To Try (Bet Now:Β $2.90) is on the seven day back up for Lindsey Smith after winning last Saturday over the mile. She looked a good thing and despite being out of petrol tickets, she had momentum and held a margin. Jumps up in trip but does have upside and in a leading stable.
10 Aragain (Bet Now:Β $21.00) can be a sneaky chance at odds. He ran over the mile here last Saturday where he sat near the speed. Tried hard but felt the pinch late behind the very much in form Tri For Us. This horse has reacted positively on the seven day back up before and is proven at the track/distance.
Race 6. (17:20) CROWN TOWERS (RS1MW) 1300m
Back to 1300m is potentially a negative with 9 Billy Ray (Bet Now:Β $4.60) but a more genuine tempo, hopefully, should offset that. Forgive the run two weeks ago over 1400m at Ascot, sitting back in a sit/sprint. Looks to be good speed here for him to sit off and launch late.
7 Island Missile (Bet Now:Β $10.00) has retuned in good order for the Gangemi camp. Trialled up well and ran right up to that fresh at Ascot when closing off nicely late to finish second. Has a tidy second up record and with improvement from the resumption, he’s in the mix for sure.
10 Beffunjar (Bet Now:Β $51.00) will put herself near the speed and run an honest race I suspect. Resumed at Ascot where she sat outside the speed and tried hard. Condition just gave out late. Not sure she has the ability to win but have to keep in mind last Saturday that towards the end of the meeting, on speed was an advantage.
Race 7. (17:50) MORLEY GROWERS MARKET (BM71+) 1400m
1400m is not the A1 trip for 2 Leading Girl (Bet Now:Β $3.00) but she might be pretty good and measure up to blacktype during the Winter. Really talented mare for Team Williams that resumes, having not raced since September last year when winning over 2000m here. She’s destined for better races than this and the trials indicate she is in for a potential career best prep.
7 Son Of Bacchus (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is the interesting one. Market didn’t really want a bar of him when he resumed at Ascot, but credit to him. He produced a lovely turn of foot from off the speed and was much too good. If he can naturally improve off that, he’s a worthy threat.
9 Bruce Almighty (Bet Now:Β $8.00) has been up a little while but continues to race in pretty good form for Neville Parnham. Ran over the mile at Ascot two weeks ago and battled on okay, but overall, I thought he was a touch plain late. His best can measure up. Just needs to show it on a consistent basis.
Race 8. (18:20) BELMONT SPRINT 1400m
6 The Velvet King (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a beauty and is back for a Winter prep. Had a two run prep in Melbourne during the Spring, which included a down the track effort in the Cantala. Probably didn’t quite measure up there, but has trialled well to get ready and is a proven performer here.
3 Elite Street (Bet Now:Β $3.60) looks back on track. The Melbourne prep was forgetful so Dan Morton returned him home for a Winter prep. Didn’t get much luck from the wide gate in the Roma Cup but loved the way he closed off to run second. If he gets luck from the draw, he’ll take beating.
Fascinating runner is 12 Kay Cee (Bet Now:Β $5.50) for Neville Parnham. She had a disappointing Summer Carnival, failing to measure up in both the Railway and Kingston Town. She will get better suited over further but has class when right and her trials leading in have been quite good.
Race 9. (18:50) SEACORP (BM72+) 1000m
Pretty keen on 5 Battle Storm (Bet Now:Β $4.00) for Team Williams. This guy had a two run prep in the Spring, each time close up behind Elite Street, who of course went on to win the Winterbottom, so that is A1 form for a race like this. Trialled well leading in and does have class on his side.
3 Nerodio (Bet Now:Β $3.20) is bursting to win a race and the big tick for him is his love affair with Belmont, winning six of nine. He ran at Ascot a fortnight back when wide no cover but kept finding when second to Son Of Bacchus. Gets a much better run this time around and has hard race fitness.
I want to give 4 We’ve Got Dreams (Bet Now:Β $15.00) another chance. Market didn’t want a bar of her when she resumed here six weeks ago and it was proven right. She didn’t want to go into the barriers and pretty much ran her race before the gates opened. Trialled well since and we know her best is good enough, even with the big weight.
